Winter Skin Rejuvenation

December 27, 2018 by Julia Morgan Leave a Comment

Winter is one of the most important times of the year to look after your skin. The cold weather, the sun and the extreme changes in temperature due to the heating can negatively impact your skin, dehydrating it, making it appear dull and flat. Winter is also a time of festivities and family and friends reunions so looking your best is on the list.

In this blog, post you will be able to find some treatments to help you and your skin look your best this winter.

winter skin rejuvenation london

At The Private Clinic, we provide customised treatments to help our patients achieve their desired results based on their skincare needs and their skin concerns.

Brightening the face following winter blues.

To brighten up your skin during the winter months we have some treatments available that help bring the glow back into your skin as well as improve the quality of your skin.

Medical Microdermabrasion

Medical Microdermabrasion is a progressive treatment which consists of vacuuming with a jet of micro crystals the top layer of the skin. This treatment is suitable for all types of skin including sensitive skin. The result is a glowing, fresher and more youthful looking skin as it helps reduce dull skin, fine lines, ageing spots, acne scars and is ideal for sun-damaged skin.

Chemical Peel.

Chemical Peels are intensive exfoliating treatments using chemical products in order to resurface the skin and remove all the skin dead cells, resulting in much more even, smoother and brighter skin.

A great example is the Obagi Blue Peel which is used to brighten and tighten the skin targeting fine lines and wrinkles and can also help clear acne. This type of chemical peel involves minimal downtime and is performed in a series of treatments spaced 6 weeks apart.

Chemical Peel treatments are also ideal to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation and acne scars.

Anti ageing treatments and fillers to refresh and rejuvenate the face.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are non-invasive treatments which consist of injecting hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in our body able to add volume to different areas of the face.

Dermal fillers do not require any downtime and can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles, contour the face and add volume and shape the lips.

Other concerns that can be treated with dermal fillers to improve one’s appearance are:

  • The areas under the eyes (Tear Trough)
  • Lips to improve the volume and shape.
  • Cheeks to help create a more contoured look and fuller cheeks.
  • Nose to mouth lines (Naso-labial folds)
  • Chin to achieve a more defined chin or improve the symmetry of the face.
  • Nose (Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty / non-surgical nose job)
  • Hands
  • Mouth to Chin lines (Marionette lines)
  • Lip Lines
  • 8 point lift is able to create similar effects to the ones achieved by a surgical facelift.

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections

Wrinkle relaxing injections are a procedure which relaxes the muscle reducing fine lines and wrinkles and is able to prevent the creation of new ones. The downtime involved with this procedure is minimal. The areas that can be treated with the wrinkle relaxing injections are:

  • Glabella lines/ lines between eyebrows
  • Chin lines
  • Frown lines
  • Crows feet, lines around eyes
  • Neck

Remove pigmentation: winter being the best time to do this.

If one of your main concerns is pigmentation, winter is the best time to tackle this issue and achieve a smoother and more event skin tone.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is an innovative procedure to rejuvenate damaged skin, tackle pigmentation and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

This type of treatment is ideal to target early signs of ageing in a more gentle and non-invasive way. There are three types of laser:

  • Pearl Fusion
  • Pearl Laser Resurfacing
  • Pearl Fractional Laser Resurfacing

The IPL device emits an intense pulse light able to penetrate deep into the skin stimulating the cells to produce new collagen. The IPL procedure requires a series of 3-6 treatments spaced one month from each, once the treatments are over you will be able to see the results.

Obagi Nu-Derm System

Obagi Nu-Derm System: This is a prescribed skin care system and is specialised in reducing hyperpigmentation, redness, age spots and rough skin. The Obagi Nu-Derm System is a prescribed skin care system that is specially formulated to correct age spots, rough skin, skin laxity, redness and hyperpigmentation. The products in this system work together and work overtime first removing the first layers of the skin, enabling a new and healthier layer to appear.

N-Lite Acne Laser Treatment

The N-Lite acne laser treatment is specialised in targeting acne prone skin. This treatment can be performed on the face, back, neck and chest focusing on the bacteria responsible for causing the infection and is also able to stimulate the production of collagen and reduce inflammation. The N-Lite treatment is suitable for all skin types.

Microneedling

Microneedling treatment is ideal to improve the appearance of severe acne scars, skin tone and skin texture.

There are a variety of forms of microneedling treatment. The most common are dermaroller or dermapen.

Dermaroller treatment is a medical roller which is formed of hundreds of micro-skin needles. The dermaroller causes micro punctures in the surface of the skin when passed across the treated areas, stimulating the regeneration and repair of the skin leaving a brighter, smoother and healthier looking skin. Dermapen works in a similar way however it is a smaller medical device that is moved over the face where micro-skin needles will move back and forth to create micro punctures.

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections and Dermal Filler Near me

July 16, 2018 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

When it comes to choosing a clinic for wrinkle injections and / or dermal filler treatment it shouldn’t be a quick decision. Take your time to fully research the location, the practitioners working there and take a look at some before and after photos to see what to expect from treatment.

Wrinkle relaxing injections should only be administered by a qualified registered nurse, doctor or dentist and you should check that they are registered with the GMC (General Medical Council).

Take a look at the location of the clinic. Clinics offering dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections should be clean, safe and appropriate for treatment. This is to avoid infection and any complications, be wary of anyone offering treatments in a non-clinical setting.

The Private Clinic is on Treatments You Can Trust register of injectable cosmetic providers which is the Health Advisory Service that recognises clinics with appropriately trained doctors, medical professionals and nurses treating from suitable premises. We are proud to have been awarded the IHAS (The Independent Health Advisory Service) Quality Assurance Mark. Opting for a more natural look to anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers

May 31, 2017 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

A natural face is now making a come-back in the world of celebrities, gone are the oversized lips and frozen foreheads and instead stars are embracing their natural lines and wrinkles. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are avoiding the anti-wrinkle injections and fillers, we suspect it is more down to the technique it is given.

Katie Price is a good example of this, once known for her big bust and big lips she is now opting for a more toned down look. Katie stated last year: “That’s it now. I won’t do any more to my body. I’ll still have Botox.”

Speaking to our clinical lead Mel Recchia it has already been noted that there is a steady rise in patients wanting a much more natural result from treatment;

“We now, much more than ever before, look at the face as a whole, we don’t just “chase the line” we don’t just treat the problem, we look at the cause of the problem, i.e. – loss of volume in the mid face and cheek area results in a deepening naso-labial fold, nose to mouth line; so we look at putting volume back into the cheek not just fill the naso-labial fold. This approach overall gives a much more natural appearance to the face.”

At The Private Clinic we only offer tried and tested, fully approved medical products, produced by worldwide, renowned manufacturers, such as Allergan.

Allergan have done many studies on who has injectable treatments and why they have them, their current research has identified 3 different groups of people having treatment.

The Positive Ageing Group

These are women who want to be in control, age well but stay looking natural. They want to look how they feel without changing the way that they look. It is not their aim to look 20 years younger, but instead look as good as they can for the age that they are – a better version of themselves rather than a different version.

The Transformation Group

These are individuals who are actively looking to change something about their face that they are otherwise unhappy with. The most common requests are for dermal filler to be used to slim their jawline or reduce the appearance of a bump in their nose.

The Beautification Group

These are people who are more celebrity-led and traditionally are looking for bigger lips, contoured cheeks and a smooth forehead. They want to achieve a certain look which is often influenced by the selfie generation and social media.

Many patients are also seeking alternative ways to keep a youthful appearance including skin peels and laser rejuvenation. These treatments are a great way to keep your skin looking great; skin peels work by removing dead cells on the surface of the skin which then results in a smoother, brighter and healthier appearance.chemical-peel-aurora-part-of-the-private-clinic

Depending on what category you fall under will determine the type of treatment needed but also the technique.

With such an extensive list of specialist treatments, it is important that you understand each one and choose the right treatment for you. The most important advice we can give you is that you must consult with a qualified physician or practitioner prior to undergoing any treatment.

We have a team of skin specialist at our clinics across the UK including;

London Harley Street, Birmingham, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and Northampton.

Youth Maintenance or Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

February 8, 2017 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

How your skin ages will depend on factors such as lifestyle, diet and your genetics. Giveaway signs to ageing skin range from thinning of the skin to loss of elasticity. Although a good skincare regime will help to stop many of the signs of ageing, sometimes it is just unavoidable but luckily for you here at The Private Clinic we specialise in skin and can offer a variety of treatments to help retain your youthful appearance.

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections

Botulinum Toxin (Botox) injections are one of our most popular and effective anti-ageing treatments. They work by relaxing the muscles in the face which reduces the contraction of the muscles that cause wrinkles. Your skin will have a smoother finish giving you a youthful appearance.

Dermal Fillerstear-trough-filler-aurora-skin-clinics-part-of-the-private-clinic-WEB

Dermal Fillers are another popular anti-ageing treatment choice. Instead of focusing on lines and wrinkles however, this treatment works by restoring volume lost in the face. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and becomes less supple which means areas like our lips, cheeks and around the mouth start to look sunken and hollow. Lip filler, cheek filler, chin filler, tear trough filler and non-surgical nose job filler are all great at restoring areas of lost volume and reshaping or contouring areas of the face.

Chemical Skin Peels

Chemical Skin Peels are ideal for treating a number of concerns including many common ageing issues such as sun damage, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and generally tired looking skin. Different peels will be used depending on your skin concerns but the treatment is generally the same with your skin being cleansed first before the peel solution is applied. The solution is then left on the skin for a few minutes before being removed.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser Skin Resurfacing is actually one of the most innovative ways to rejuvenate your skin. Skin with brown spots and an uneven tone can cause us to look older and with many lines and wrinkles starting to appear as early as the mid-twenties, surgery and other anti-ageing treatments are often just not suitable. Pearl Laser Resurfacing is most suited for fine lines and wrinkles whereas the Pearl Fusion laser is a deeper treatment for damaged skin.  The treatment involves the skin being exposed to pulses of light in a specific pattern and the laser sends heat to deep layers of the skin.

If you are concerned with the appearance of your skin we recommend coming in for a free skin consultation first where you will be able to discuss your skin concerns with a practitioner and discuss in detail the variety of treatments available and which one would be best suited for you.

We have clinics in; London Harley Street, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Buckinghamshire, Northampton and Glasgow

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) treatments for men and women: The Silent Handicap

March 15, 2016 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Unless you’re actively kicking up a sweat at the gym or taking part in a marathon, excessive sweating can make you feel uncomfortable and out of place.

Termed as the ‘Silent Handicap’ by Hyperhidrosis specialist, Dr Carl Swartling (2011), Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is a common condition that isn’t often discussed in social circles, with men and women often feeling too proud or embarrassed to consult their GPs. Those affected can become very self-conscious and may start avoiding certain colours and types of clothing, usually opting for white or black items, as they make transpiration less noticeable. Many also often think that there aren’t any solutions to improve upon it.

Excessive sweating can interfere with social, romantic and professional encounters for both genders and in certain severe cases, it can interfere with practical activities – such as holding a pen – if the amount of sweat prevents you from holding objects.

The signs and symptoms of Hyperhidrosis

If you feel that the amount of sweat you’re producing interferes with your everyday life and is making you become self-conscious and/or socially withdrawn, then you may be suffering from Hyperhidrosis. The condition is divided into two strands – primary and secondary.

The latter is rare and is usually caused by an underlying condition. Although it can manifest in any area, it may only affect one side of the body, or all of it, and is sometimes symptomatic of a neurological cause.

Visual scale for the quantification of Hyperhidrosis.
Visual scale for the quantification of Hyperhidrosis.

For most, Primary Hyperhidrosis is the right cause of concern, with usually one area being symmetrically affected. The underarms, palms, feet and face tend to be most affected. The cause of Hyperhidrosis is currently unknown, but researchers claim that a genetic link might be at play.

What research has definitely shown is that the condition isn’t a direct threat to your health – though it may lead to feelings of depression and anxiety, which in turn can worsen the condition.

Living with Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a long-term condition with no cure, but there are ways to manage it and to adapt to it effectively. You can start by trying to alter your lifestyle and avoiding spicy food, caffeinated or hot drinks, and alcohol, as they’re known to induce sweating. It’s helpful to note what triggers your episodes and reducing your exposure to them, and other stressful situations.

There are topical lotions and oral medication that can somewhat ease the condition, with some even relying on the use of electronic treatments, acupuncture and other alternative medicines to try and manage their sweating.

Treating Hyperhidrosis

In 2004, the FDA approved the use of Botulinum Toxin type A (commonly used for Wrinkle Relaxing Injections) for the treatment of excessive sweating. The substance works by temporarily blocking the nerves that encourage your sweat glands to become overactive.

The treatment is delivered by injecting small amounts of the toxin into to affected area, but whether it under the arms or the soles of the feet, the application of this treatment has to be exact, so it shouldn’t be performed by anyone who isn’t a medical practitioner.

The Private Clinic

Having over 30 years of experience in minimally invasive treatments, we know how important it is to have experienced and knowledgeable Nurse Prescribers and Aesthetic Doctors delivering our medical treatments. Members of our team are experts in their field, who place patient safety and satisfaction above all other considerations.

Hyperhidrosis treatment is available at our Glasgow, Manchester, London City and London Harley Street clinics.

Setting the record straight on Dermal Fillers

January 26, 2016 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

A couple of interesting facts have emerged in the past few years. First, there’s no denying it, minimally invasive treatments are the way forward and their popularity is only growing. Second, women no longer hold a monopoly on interest in subtle cosmetic procedures and male demand is steadily rising.

Injectable treatments such as Dermal Fillers have proven to be a reliable non-surgical option for rejuvenation and aesthetic definition, but there still seems to be some confusion over which ones are best, what areas can be treated with them, the results that they can offer and most importantly who can administer them.

So, let us explore the wonderful world of Dermal Fillers and set the record straight.

Fillers: what are they?

Let’s keep things simple.

There are two types of Dermal Filler: temporary and permanent ones. Both serve to add volume, get rid of lines and wrinkles and to plump certain areas.

The latter are becoming used less as the complications associated with them are much more difficult to address and they have to be surgically removed. They require great expertise, meaning that it’s very easy to fall prey to a great discount at a beauty salon and end up with botched results.

The Private Clinic doesn’t offer permanent Dermal Fillers. We only use the highest quality available of temporary fillers instead.

Dermal fillers naso-labial folds before and after photo

Why? Because the best ones are made from a natural substance that can be found in the body and are far safer than permanent ones. Being made from Hyaluronic Acid makes these fillers feel soft to touch and are absorbed by the body. They can last between three to 12 months and can easily be altered or removed if need be.

Filler application is highly unregulated in the UK so it’s best to use reputable brands such Juvederm from Allergan or Restylane from Galderma. Furthermore, it’s a procedure that should ONLY be performed by nurse prescribers and doctors – as is the case at our clinic. You only want someone who’s qualified to handle the contouring of your facial features, right?

What are dermal fillers used for?

Most areas of the lower facial area can be treated with Dermal Fillers, but whether the treatment is appropriate depends on the issue at hand and your desired result. Below we list the most commonly treated areas and the results you can expect.

Lip Enhancement

Without a doubt the most popular filler procedure, Lip Fillers became HUGE after Kylie Jenner revealed the procedure was part of her beauty routine.

Lip fillers can enhance the size of your lips without compromising the way they feel to you or others, but a good practitioner will know that a natural look requires for them to be injected within the middle grooves of the lips instead of lining them.

Tear Trough

The area below your eyes can easily become hollow – be it because of genetics, ageing, weight loss or an unhealthy lifestyle – and when that happens you can gain a tired and sometimes even ill-seeming appearance.

It’s not a great look but a specialised nurse or doctor can address the issue by expertly injecting the gel fillers consist of into the Tear Trough, so that it can restore volume to the area and balance out your facial features. Please note that only a few practitioners are actually trained and specialised in treating the area below the eye.

Less based on current fashion trends, this treatment can help both genders with a far too common problem.

Nose Reshaping

Turns out that you don’t need to have a Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) to change the way your nose looks. Well, that is if size isn’t your main concerns.

Certain issues can be addressed with a non surgical nose job by strategically using dermal filler to add volume to precise areas so as to even out the shape of the nose. Solid knowledge of anatomy and an eye for proportions are key here, but the advantage is that you won’t have to go under the knife.

8 Point Lift

Known for being the equivalent of a non-surgical facelift, this treatment focuses specific areas of the lower half of your face to add volume to them and restore a healthier and fuller appearance to it.

By targeting key areas, the 8 Point Lift can add definition to your face by elevating your cheeks, reducing the indent of your naso-labial crease and by distinguishing your jaw. It’s an effective way for men and women to replace the subtle changes brought on by the years, although men can also use it as a way to gain sharper, or more robust features.

What else?

Dermal Fillers can also be used to add contour to the cheeks or reshape jawline by adding volume to the chin.

Leave this to the professionals

Notice our use of words like ’specialised’, ‘experienced’, ‘strategically’ and  ‘expertly’. It doesn’t take much to get some of these procedures wrong, so having them done by anyone who isn’t medically trained can leave you with botched results.

Because the Dermal Fillers are so loosely regulated, it’s easy to come across tempting discount offers, which more often than not, aren’t performed by professionals. Here, it really is a case of ‘you get what you pay for’ and far too often have our doctors and nurses had to fix the work of those who aren’t properly qualified.

So please, stay safe and opt for treatment from a registered professional – in the end it won’t only save you money, but a lot of grief as well.
