Wrinkle Shrinking Injectables? Check Side Effects and Aftercare

January 1, 2016 by

The Sun

It’s no secret that celebrities use Botox and Fillers to treat their frown lines and wrinkles.

Towie Billi Mucklow, 24, recently revealed that she has been having Botox for 2 years.

She said “They say that the younger you are when you have the treatment, the better it takes.”My mum and dad are not against it at all.

But when it comes to Botox and Fillers, there’s a fine line between natural and frozen look. Here LAUREN NAYLOR asks Dr. from the Private Clinic to explain which injectable procedure is right for you.

DR. says”Botox has been used in UK medical practice for more than 15 years to treat facial spasms in adults and children. Cosmetic doctors use it treat facial lines and wrinkles.

“Check that the doctor you choose is a member of British College of Aesthetic Medicine and their Clinic is registered with Care Quality Commission.

“Get Recommendations from friends and check how many years they have been doing the particular treatment to see how experienced they are.”

He stresses that you should make sure you are aware of any possible side effects and the recommended aftercare.

And find out what the doctor’s policy is should you have a problem or be unhappy.

“When it comes to the type of Look you are going for” add Dr. , “there is always a trade-off between natural look versus what you achieve in terms of freezing lines, Patients needs do need to be realistic,

“And if you want a more natural look where you have a movement, you will still some lines.”

FILLER

BOTOX isn’t for everyone and fillers can be better at treating skin if the patient has deep wrinkles and sagging of the skin.

DR. says “It’s best to use Botox with facial fillers to restore volume and maybe mix with radio frequency treatments to help tighten and firm the skin.

“Dermal Fillers can instantly restore volume in the skin, whether that is plumping out deep wrinkles or giving skin back the plumpness its losses as we age.”

Look for reputable brands such as Restylane and Juviderm .The gel, explains Dr. , is composed of a form of hyaluronic acid, a substance found in your own skin.

He adds that “Be aware that fillers are a medical treatment and there is always a small possibility of side effects which could be mild and include redness, swelling and bruising.

A good cosmetic doctor will always look at using different combinations of treatments and technologies.”

But when is a good time to start these procedures?

Dr. says “It depends on many factors including ethnicity, facial expression and skin typing.” For example, Irish women tend to be very expressive and fair skinned so many need Botox in their early thirties.

“There is no doubt that Botox has a role in slowing down the signs of ageing when used alongside a good skincare and sun protection regime.

“Typically, my patients start to come to me in their mid-thirties but, it’s all down to the personal preference.”

A Fresh Face Without Surgery

October 19, 2016 by

Daily Mail

Is it good bye to nip and tuck? Today more of us are turning to gentler new ways to get a younger look, with incredible results.

Fresh, smooth, glowing skin – it’s on every woman’s wish list. And those in the know are finding clever new ways to achieve a brighter. more youthful look, without the kind of bashing and bruising so often associated with a face-lift.

Face-lifts are reportedly falling out of favour even in the U.S, and off the list of the top five requested treatments.

Instead, we’re increasingly seeking out gentler, non-invasive and less expensive treatments which, while perhaps not as dramatic or permanent in their results, can still help us to present a fresh, radiant new face to the world.

Take Roisin McGovern, who has made use of the latest incredible developments in cosmetic technology to peel away the years and greatly improve the appearance of her skin.

Roisin, 56, says: ‘I’m a very positive, lively person. But while I felt young inside, my skin was letting me down.

‘I used to live in a hot climate, so had quite a lot of sun damage on my face, chest and hands, where there were freckles and sun spots. And my skin was looking dehydrated with little wrinkles and veins that gave away my age.’

Roisin considered a face-lift and even went to see a surgeon. ‘But the cost and thought of a knife cutting into my face become truly scary. I realised I wanted a more natural look – achieved in a non-invasive way.’

So she went instead for a series of new generation laser and filler treatments, that could be done in her lunch hour at The Private Clinic and involved neither downtime, trauma nor exorbitant cost.

Roisin started with a course of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) on her face, chest and hands. ‘This targeted thread veins and noticeably improved the appearance, texture and condition of my skin. It also reduced pigmentation blemishes caused by the sun and by ageing.’ While a few sessions of one type of treatment can often be enough to produce significant results, Roisin decided to try more – including N-Lite laser treatment.

N-Lite is used to stimulate and revitalise the skin and to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles, acne scars, blemishes and thread veins.

‘It made the texture of my skin appear much smoother and more toned, an effect that should last for around two years.’

With her skin now glowing radiantly, Roisin then opted to tackle the worst of any remaining tell-tale wrinkles and sagging, with injections of the fillers Restylane and Sculptra.

These work to plump the skin, making it look and feel fresher and softening deep facial lines.

Similar treatments were used to improve the appearance of the skin of Roisin’s chest and hands too – problem areas that had also been exposed to the sun.

Roisin says:’Afterwards I noticed an amazing difference. Before I’d felt that I always appeared tired and was looking my age. But now I look much more youthful and am very proud of how I can present myself at 56. It has made me look bright and alive again.’

The treatments, carried out at The Private Clinic by skilled specialists in dermatology, were virtually painless and Roisin could put on make-up and go straight back to work afterwards.

Most courses cost just hundreds of pounds, rather than the may thousands that a face-lift can involve. And top-ups to treatments can be given as required, making it a gradual, more affordable way to improve your look.

Treatment programmes are individually tailored, following a free consultation at The Private Clinic in either London or Manchester. And you can arrange for as much or as little treatment as you want, starting with whatever is concerning you most.

Roisin adds:’I’m not afraid to grow old. But like most of us I want to do so gracefully and be the best me that I can be at my age – a super me. And now my face reflects the person I am inside.’

Crossing the Vermillion Border with Juvederm’s VOLBELLA

March 8, 2016 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Juvederm became somewhat of a household name for beauty aficionados after Kylie Jenner revealed that she uses the brand’s Dermal Fillers to plump up her lips. Specifically, the brand’s VYCROSS range (which includes products such as Juvederm VOLUMA and Juvederm VOLIFT ) is currently considered as being top of the line, but keeping in mind the current trend for Lip Augmentation, we’d like to highlight one product in particular: Juvederm VOLBELLA.

vycross product range

The VYCROSS line was designed to specifically target certain areas of the face, with VOLBELLA being intended for adding volume to the lips. The science behind these Dermal Fillers is what sets them apart, and is why VOLBELLA can be considered as one of the best Lip Fillers around.

What is VOLBELLA made of?

Like most high-quality Dermal Fillers, VOLBELLA is made out of a kind of carbohydrate fluid, commonly found in the eyes and joints, known as Hyaluronic Acid.

It acts as a cushion and lubricant that is constantly broken down and replaced by the body. As time goes by its effects fade, but that’s an advantage when it’s used for cosmetic purposes, as it allows for customisation and doesn’t restrict a patient’s options permanently.

What sets VOLBELLA apart other Lip Fillers?

The patented technology used to make VOLBELLA is wherein the genius of the product lies. It all comes down to how the Hyaluronic Acid is produced, which in this case required tweaks to be made at a molecular level, in order to alter the weight and consistency of the gel.

In doing so, your practitioner gains greater control over the injecting process, which is made smoother since the gel is easier to push through the syringe, and flows more steadily. Thanks to this, there is far less discomfort for the patient, and because VOLBELLA is so moldable, it becomes simpler to contour the lips and achieve natural looking results.

Before and after Lip Fillers at The Private Clinic, Bristol

While other brands will have fillers made with 100% high molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid, VOLBELLA only uses 10% of the latter and 90% of its low molecular weight counterpart. By ensuring that the gel properties of the VOLBELLA filler are optimised to such an extent, the risk of lumps and bumps is minimised, along with the potential for bruising, or swelling.

The best part is that the effects of this generation of fillers last longer – with our patients reporting results that have spanned over 12 to 18 months.

Setting the record straight on Dermal Fillers

January 26, 2016 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

A couple of interesting facts have emerged in the past few years. First, there’s no denying it, minimally invasive treatments are the way forward and their popularity is only growing. Second, women no longer hold a monopoly on interest in subtle cosmetic procedures and male demand is steadily rising.

Injectable treatments such as Dermal Fillers have proven to be a reliable non-surgical option for rejuvenation and aesthetic definition, but there still seems to be some confusion over which ones are best, what areas can be treated with them, the results that they can offer and most importantly who can administer them.

So, let us explore the wonderful world of Dermal Fillers and set the record straight.

Fillers: what are they?

Let’s keep things simple.

There are two types of Dermal Filler: temporary and permanent ones. Both serve to add volume, get rid of lines and wrinkles and to plump certain areas.

The latter are becoming used less as the complications associated with them are much more difficult to address and they have to be surgically removed. They require great expertise, meaning that it’s very easy to fall prey to a great discount at a beauty salon and end up with botched results.

The Private Clinic doesn’t offer permanent Dermal Fillers. We only use the highest quality available of temporary fillers instead.

Dermal fillers naso-labial folds before and after photo

Why? Because the best ones are made from a natural substance that can be found in the body and are far safer than permanent ones. Being made from Hyaluronic Acid makes these fillers feel soft to touch and are absorbed by the body. They can last between three to 12 months and can easily be altered or removed if need be.

Filler application is highly unregulated in the UK so it’s best to use reputable brands such Juvederm from Allergan or Restylane from Galderma. Furthermore, it’s a procedure that should ONLY be performed by nurse prescribers and doctors – as is the case at our clinic. You only want someone who’s qualified to handle the contouring of your facial features, right?

Find out more about the safety of Dermal Fillers here.

What are dermal fillers used for?

Most areas of the lower facial area can be treated with Dermal Fillers, but whether the treatment is appropriate depends on the issue at hand and your desired result. Below we list the most commonly treated areas and the results you can expect.

Lip Enhancement

Without a doubt the most popular filler procedure, Lip Fillers became HUGE after Kylie Jenner revealed the procedure was part of her beauty routine.

Lip fillers can enhance the size of your lips without compromising the way they feel to you or others, but a good practitioner will know that a natural look requires for them to be injected within the middle grooves of the lips instead of lining them.

Tear Trough

The area below your eyes can easily become hollow – be it because of genetics, ageing, weight loss or an unhealthy lifestyle – and when that happens you can gain a tired and sometimes even ill-seeming appearance.

It’s not a great look but a specialised nurse or doctor can address the issue by expertly injecting the gel fillers consist of into the Tear Trough, so that it can restore volume to the area and balance out your facial features. Please note that only a few practitioners are actually trained and specialised in treating the area below the eye.

Less based on current fashion trends, this treatment can help both genders with a far too common problem.

Nose Reshaping

Turns out that you don’t need to have a Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) to change the way your nose looks. Well, that is if size isn’t your main concerns.

Certain issues can be addressed with a non surgical nose job by strategically using dermal filler to add volume to precise areas so as to even out the shape of the nose. Solid knowledge of anatomy and an eye for proportions are key here, but the advantage is that you won’t have to go under the knife.

8 Point Lift

Known for being the equivalent of a non-surgical facelift, this treatment focuses specific areas of the lower half of your face to add volume to them and restore a healthier and fuller appearance to it.

By targeting key areas, the 8 Point Lift can add definition to your face by elevating your cheeks, reducing the indent of your naso-labial crease and by distinguishing your jaw. It’s an effective way for men and women to replace the subtle changes brought on by the years, although men can also use it as a way to gain sharper, or more robust features.

What else?

Dermal Fillers can also be used to add contour to the cheeks or reshape jawline by adding volume to the chin.

Leave this to the professionals

Notice our use of words like ’specialised’, ‘experienced’, ‘strategically’ and  ‘expertly’. It doesn’t take much to get some of these procedures wrong, so having them done by anyone who isn’t medically trained can leave you with botched results.

Because the Dermal Fillers are so loosely regulated, it’s easy to come across tempting discount offers, which more often than not, aren’t performed by professionals. Here, it really is a case of ‘you get what you pay for’ and far too often have our doctors and nurses had to fix the work of those who aren’t properly qualified.

So please, stay safe and opt for treatment from a registered professional – in the end it won’t only save you money, but a lot of grief as well.

The Private Clinic Bristol: Treatments

September 4, 2015 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Recently, Bristol’s been getting a lot of attention because of Banksy’s Dismaland and the crowds have been coming in droves to visit. The temporary hustle and bustle might not be welcome by everyone though, so we thought we’d highlight a more permanent fixture, that’s there to offer you a professional and reliable environment all year round: The Private Clinic, Bristol.

Bristol

With over 35 years experience, we’re known world-wide as pioneers in minimally-invasive cosmetic treatments, and our Bristol clinic is a fantastic extension of our specialism.

The clinic offers a number of walk-in, walk-out procedures, with Skin Rejuvenation and Anti-Ageing treatment packages tailored to suit your needs and busy schedule.

FACE

Acne (N-Lite): Seen as one of the most advanced and effective treatments for battling the root cause of acne, the N-Lite treatment destroys acne-causing bacteria in the skin on the face and neck. The results are life-changing and can be seen after the first couple of treatments (single sessions start at £250). Patients who have been on antibiotics for years have been fully cured of their acne with our N-Lite treatment.

acnetreatmentStudents are the real winners with this one as we have a unique Student Offer which gives you a full course for £700 – that’s five sessions for the price of three!

Anti-ageing and Rejuvenation: We offer a vast array of treatments designed to help enhance your natural beauty and feel more confident.
We’ve got the standard injectables – wrinkle relaxing injections that block your muscles impulses and help them relax – smoothing out wrinkles and lines (with prices starting from £195 for one area), as well as temporary Dermal Fillers – that use a natural acid produced by our bodies – to plump up skin and restore volume to the face (most of our fillers cost between £250-£400).

Our 8 Point Lift technique uses a combination of injectables to replicate a lighter effect of a non-surgical facelift that offers immediate results and no downtime (this tends to cost around £1,200).

While we’re on acids, you can opt for a chemical peel to remove dead skin cells from your face, smoothing out your skin’s tone and texture (mild peels start at £58).

There’s also dermaroller treatment which uses hundreds of micro-needles that strategically impact the skin and encourage its collagen production (pricing starts at £280 for individual sessions). The results are remarkable and extremely effective for smoothing out scarring and other skin texture problems.

To find out more about our skin treatments and injectables available in Bristol, book a consultation with one of our expert aesthetic nurse Katie Evans and indepent nurse prescribers, Lesley Dean RGN and Ann Hampson RGN

Finally we also stock impressive home-care products. They are able to cover all skin concerns thanks to its mixture of antioxidants, resurfacing and lightening factors, which allow it to cleanse, hydrate and protect your skin. Please make sure to get one of our free skin analysis consultations to choose the most suitable treatment or product available for your skin.

HAIR

Hair loss can cause many to feel unhappy with their appearance. There are a number of products on the market that claim to improve hair growth and many tricks can be used to create a fuller appearance to the hair but if you are experiencing hair loss, often the only permanent solution is a hair transplant procedure. We are able to offer FUE Hair Transplant consultation for procedures performed in-house with Hair Transplant surgeon, Dr Michael Mouzakis, GMC Number: 7237640.

BODY

Laser Hair Removal: Summer may be over but unwanted hair surfaces all year round, so we recommend considering a more permanent hair removal technique than repeated shaving, waxing or depilatory creams. Unwanted hair can be quite burdensome, for men and women alike, and patient’s most common regret is not having undergone treatment sooner. There’s no downtime and you’ll be hair-free after completing a full course (top-ups may be required to get rid of fine hairs). We cover all parts of the body but our back and chest removal treatments are particularly popular with men, whereas women often opt to have their lower legs done, as well as their underarm and upper lip areas (single the upper lip treatments start at £77, with a full course costing £300). It’s worth noting that our specialised staff are fully trained to work on darker skin, something that requires significant experience to prevent any burns.

VASER Liposuction: VASER liposuction is a minimally invasive, walk-in walk-out fat removal treatment that rids us of stubborn pockets of fat that seem ever-present despite taking up exercise and following a healthy diet. Different levels of definition can be achieved with VASER liposuction, and the downtime is minimal when compared to traditional forms of liposuction. VASER Hi-Def is often chosen by men because of the athletic, muscular results it can achieve, while our very own VASER Mid-Def tends to be preferred by women, as it gives a fit appearance with a more natural finish (prices start at £2,600). It’s not a weight-loss solution but the effects are permanent when combined with a healthy lifestyle.

VASER Liposuction can be done in various places such as the stomach, neck, chest, back, buttocks, and thighs.

LEGS

Endovenous Ablation of Varicose Veins (EVLA): The Gold Standard Varicose Vein treatment, as recommended by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence). We offer patients a free ultrasound scan during consultation to locate to the source of any problematic veins (the consultation is £200, ultrasounds usually cost between £350-£450). Compared to traditional vein stripping, it’s safer, more effective and is a 45 minute, walk-in walk-out treatment. All of our Varicose Vein treatments are carried out in-clinic by our highly reputable Consultant Vascular Surgeons, Mr Charles Ranaboldo, BM, FRCS MS, GMC Number: 2939195.

Plastic Surgery
If a surgical procedure is required to deliver the results you’re dreaming of, we are able to offer free patient advisor consultations to provide you with information on the range of Plastic Surgery procedures that The Private Clinic offers from from Breast Surgery, body surgery and facial surgery. We are able to offer minor procedures in-house such as split earlobe or tribal earlobe correction and EarFold ear pinning treatment.

Plastic Surgeons who consult from our Bristol clinic include:

  • Mr Dario Rochira, BS, MD. GMC Number: 6130664 – Specialises in breast and facial surgery including the preservation rhinoplasty
  • Mr Maisam Fazel  MA(Cantab) MB BChir MSEd FRCS  GMC Number: 4767420 – Specialises in breast and body surgery including breast augmentation and male chest reduction.
  • Dr Michael Mouzakis S.C.F in Plastic Surgery, GMC Number: 7237640 – Specialises in Ear correction surgery using the EarFold technique.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical fat reduction treatment that uses a controlled cooling technique to freeze targeted areas of stubborn fat to freeze the fat cells which are then broken down and naturally removed from the body. The procedure is suitable for the chin, upper arms, bra fat, back, stomach, hips, thighs and buttocks and delivers natural gradual results with no downtime.

Ultherapy

Ultherapy is a non-invasive skin tightening treatment that is suitable for use on the face, neck, chin and eyebrows. The treatment uses micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation (MFU-V) energy which is able to treat depths of the skin not possible but other similar skin tightening cosmetic devices. This technique stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin to reverse the visible signs of ageing whilst significantly lifting layers of tissue which other lasers are not FDA cleared to perform. The results from Ultherapy are gradual and it can take 3-6 months to see the full results from treatment but the results from Ultherapy can last over a year.

We understand that choosing to have a cosmetic treatment done is a big decision so we have some financing options available to help you achieve your desired results. Which we can provide more information on following your consultation.

Skincare in your forties

July 3, 2015 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

40 is the new 30 – there’s absolutely no disputing that. However, while we might feel as youthful as ever inside, our forties can be the time when our skin catches up with earlier years and begins to show signs of wear and tear.

The majority of those who visit The Private Clinic in their forties for skincare advice are primarily looking for ways to reverse initial signs of ageing, and rejuvenate skin back to a natural dewy glow. Key to both these principles is understanding why, exactly, your skin has undergone changes and the best treatment method to address any problems. Here’s our guide…

Wrinkles and lines

Fine lines and gentle creases can begin to form into full-blown wrinkles during our forties. It’s often the time that females begin to approach the menopause, meaning hormones are ravaged and the way our skin looks after itself changes. Collagen and elastin (the two key principles to our skin repairing itself) stop being produced as readily, while at the same time accumulated cell damage slows down the rate at which skin renews and repairs itself, leading to more damage and little natural rejuvenation.

The good news, however, is that there are a multitude of treatments available to tackle the problem, depending on the severity of your case and the results you’re looking to achieve. Non-surgical face lift treatments like Silhouette Soft or the 8-Point Lift are particularity popular choices for many in their forties; the methods help to ease sagging and lines on the skin without the invasion needed for more severe wrinkles. Many, meanwhile, find wrinkle reducing injections (like Botox), dermal fillers and peels are all that are needed for specific lines and problem areas. Key to working out the best method is always choosing the right clinic or practitioner who can be honest and make sure they only go ahead with something if it’s right. Surgical treatments like a face lift or blepharoplasty are sometimes more suitable for those looking for larger changes, but it always comes down to individual needs. It’s all about speaking to a professional and knowing where your skin currently stands.

Dark spots and discolourisation

Remember that day twenty years ago when you lay in the sun without sun cream? Your skin does. Very often signs of discoloration or pigmentation on the skin can be directly linked back to earlier damage, regardless of whether there was any visible change at the time.

The way the skin protects itself from sun damage is through creating pigmentation so your first stop to preventing any further damage should always be plenty of high-level sun screen. We call it the wonder cream in that it not only prevents against nasty illness like skin cancer, but also keeps most of the key signs of ageing at bay.

In terms of treatment for damage that has already shown itself, one of our favourites is a non-invasive laser method called IPL Photorejuvenation. The treatment uses a system of pulsed lasers to penetrate the skin and diffuse redness, discolouration and visible damage.

Another useful treatment for pigmentation issues is a TCA peel, which intensely exfoliates the skin to remove surface blemishes. However, whether it’s the right course for your needs will always depend on your requirements.

Dry Skin

As our hormones decrease, so too does our skin’s production of its natural lubricator – sebum. This oily substance is responsible for keeping our skin supple and soft so, as it disappears, the face can appear somewhat lack lustre without that certain radiance and glow we had in younger years.

Key to restoring moisture is a good skincare regime, consisting of at-home products and regular boosters. There are a range of cosmeceutical skincare brands providing facials and non-invasive treatments and we’re huge fans of targeted skincare refreshers from brands like QMS Medicosmetics, Jan Marini, Antonia Burrell and Skinceuticals to name just a few. While cheaper products in stores can claim to have the right ingredients to restore your skin, very often the formulas, amounts or application is insuffient to make any real difference to your skin. That’s why we’d always advise meeting with someone trained in various skincare brands and types before splurging – advice could, ultimately, save you a lot of time and money!

Summary

Your forties are a time to look gorgeous and enjoy yourself. Whether it’s the first signs of ageing or more deep-rooted wrinkles and lines that are bothering you, there are a multitude or treatments and precautions that can be taken to help your skin look and feel its best, many of which are non-invasive and produce fantastic results. Remember – you’re an individual and your skin is too. Treatment needs to be specific to your needs and, regardless of what your issues are, specialists are able to assist you at every stage.
