Breast Implant Health Assessment
At The Private Clinic, we can provide patients with advanced Breast Implant assessment screenings within our London Harley Street clinic.
We understand that looking after your Breast Implants is just as important as the surgery itself. Whether your Breast Augmentation was performed with us or elsewhere, our Implant Health Assessment service has been designed to provide reassurance, early detection of potential concerns, and access to specialist care when you need it.
Our service includes an in-house Breast Implant Ultrasound examination with a Radiologist followed by a consultation to discuss your results all during the same appointment. If any further assessment or treatment is recommended, you will have direct access to our team of experienced Consultant Plastic Surgeons, all under one roof at our Harley Street clinic.
What is an Implant Health Assessment?
An Implant Health Assessment is a comprehensive check of your Breast Implants using high-resolution ultrasound imaging. The assessment is designed to evaluate the condition of your implants and identify any signs of changes that may require further investigation.
Unlike other services where scans are often performed separately and results are delivered days or weeks later, your assessment at The Private Clinic includes a discussion of your findings before you leave your appointment, giving you clarity and peace of mind without unnecessary waiting.
Our Service Offers
- Specialist breast implant ultrasound assessment performed at our Harley Street clinic.
- Same-appointment discussion of your ultrasound findings.
- No need to wait for separate reports or follow-up appointments.
- Referrals to our expert Consultant Plastic Surgeons if further advice or treatment is recommended.
- A seamless patient journey from assessment through to specialist care, all within The Private Clinic.
Our multidisciplinary approach means that if concerns are identified, you won’t need to navigate multiple providers or referral pathways, we can support you through every step of your Breast Implant care.
Do I need a Breast Implant Health Assessment?
A Breast Implant Health Assessment may be suitable if you:
- Have had Breast Augmentation elsewhere and would like specialist follow-up care
- Have Breast Implants and would like reassurance that they remain in good condition
- Have noticed changes in the appearance or feel of your breasts
- Are experiencing discomfort, swelling or other symptoms
- Would like a routine health check for your Breast Implants
- Are considering Breast Implant Replacement or Removal surgery
Your Breast Implant Health Assessment Appointment
Your appointment is designed to provide a comprehensive assessment in a single visit.
During your appointment with our experienced Consultant Radiologist, you will discuss any symptoms, concerns or changes you may have noticed before undergoing a detailed ultrasound examination of your Breast Implants.
Following your scan, you will review the findings during the same appointment and receive advice on any next steps, if required.
What can an ultrasound detect?
An ultrasound scan can effectively show:
- Implant Ruptures – Identify breaks in the shell of the implant
- Fluid Build Up – Detect Seromas or Hematomas surrounding the implant pocket
- Capsular Contracture – Visualise signs of tissue thickening or hardening around the capsule shell
- Implant Position – Assesses if an implant has rotated, shifted, or folded
- Infection – Locates localised pockets of infection, abscesses, or severe inflammation
- Lumps – Screens existing breast tissue next to the implant for benign cysts or solid masses
What happens after your Breast Implant Health Assessment Appointment?
Should your assessment indicate that further investigation or treatment would be beneficial, we can arrange a consultation with one of our Consultant Plastic Surgeons at a suitable date and time to ensure you continue to receive expert advice and care without unnecessary delays.
If your scan comes back clear, you will be provided with a written report and a recommendation to return for another scan after 2-3 years, or sooner if there are any changes to your breast or you have any Breast Implant concerns.

Why have a Breast Implant Health Assessment?
Breast Implants are medical devices, and while they are designed to be durable, they should be monitored throughout their lifetime. Regular assessment can help identify changes that may not be noticeable during self-examination and can provide reassurance that your implants remain healthy.
Early assessment may help detect issues such as Breast Implant rupture, changes to the implant shell, fluid collections or other Breast Implant related concerns, allowing appropriate treatment to be considered at the earliest opportunity.
Our service, in contrast to independent imaging providers, combines diagnostic imaging with prompt clinical interpretation and, if necessary, access to Consultant Plastic Surgeons – all under one roof.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Private Clinic has over 40 years of experience as a leader in cosmetic surgery. Our expert team is ready to answer your questions and provide peace of mind. Below are some common FAQs about Breast Implant Ultrasound. Rest assured, all questions will be addressed in detail during your appointment.
As an Ultrasound is not a surgical procedure and is non invasive, very little preparation is required before your appointment.
However, to make your appointment as easy and comfortable as possible, we recommend wearing a top that is quick to remove as you will be asked to undress from the waist up.
We also recommend removing your jewellery and avoiding powders, cosmetics, and lotions on your breast area.
You will first meet with our specialist who will talk through the process to ensure you are feeling comfortable.
- You will then be asked to undress from the waist up and lie on our ultrasound table.
- A clear, conductive gel will be applied to your breasts, which may feel a little cold. The gel is used to help the sound waves travel through your skin and tissue.
- A wand-like device called a transducer will be moved over your breasts. This sends and receives sound waves, which form real-time imagery of your breasts’ internal anatomy, including your implants.
- When the scan is complete, you will be given tissues to remove the gel and privacy to get dressed.
The procedure should be totally painless, if you feel discomfort, please let our specialist know.
Once you are ready, the results from your scan will be discussed
The results from your ultrasound will be discussed with you on the same day as your appointment, there is no need for you to return for a follow-up procedure.
If your scan shows contracture, rupture or leakage, you will be referred on to one of our Plastic Surgeons for a consultation to discuss treatment options, this is unlikely to be on the same day, and you will need to return to clinic for this appointment.
If anything more serious is found, our specialist will write to your doctor on the NHS advising them that you need an urgent appointment.
