Trinny and Alice Heart Davis from the Tweakment guide talk about anti ageing and skin

April 6, 2020 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

We tuned into Trinny Woodall’s latest episode of The T-Zone which featured Award-winning beauty journalist and author of The Tweakments Guide Alice Hart Davis. They were discussing treatments to help with common concerns. We have listed a selection of the treatments mentioned below;

Sagging Eyelids/Drooping Brows

Sagging eyelids or drooping brows are a common complaint in our clinics but luckily there is a range of treatments that can be very effective at reducing the signs of this.

Sagging or drooping eyelids typical sign of ageing, the levator muscle is responsible for lifting the eyelid and as we age this muscle starts to stretch which results in the surrounding skin stretching and fat pockets becoming more prominent causing drooping.

This can also result in drooping of the eyebrow which can cause you to look angry, upset, or older in appearance.

Our top treatments for eyelid or brow drop are:

Thread Lift

A thread lift is a rejuvenating non-surgical treatment that involves using specialised surgical threads to lift and regenerate sagging skin whilst improving the production of collagen within the skin. We offer both Silhouette Soft thread lift treatment and PDO Thread lifting treatments at our clinics and both of which can be used to lift the eyebrow area.

To find out more about Thread Lift treatment see here.

Ultherapy

Ultherapy non-surgical skin tightening procedure that uses micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation (MFU-V) energy. The treatment works to stimulate and encourage the production of elastin and new collagen whilst providing a significant lift to the layers of tissue. Ultherapy has been FDA approved to treat the eyebrow as well as the face and neck. The production of new collagen creates a lifting effect to effective lift the brows and improve the appearance drooping eyelids.

To find out more about Ultherapy treatment see here

Brow Lift

In some cases, non-surgical treatment may not be enough or not give the results that you desire, and, in this case, you would need to consider a surgical alternative. A browlift or browplasty is a surgical procedure designed to lift the forehead which can help elevate the brows as well as soften any deep lines or wrinkles.

Find out more about facelift procedures here.

At our London Harley Street clinic, we also offer the One Stitch Temporal Facelift which is ideal for patients who are looking for effective results without the downtime. The temporal facelift is a minimally invasive facelift procedure that is carried out under local anaesthetic and concentrates on the eyebrows to the midface.

Find out more about the Temporal Facelift here

Blepharoplasty

A blepharoplasty procedure is another surgical procedure that is best suited for patients who are experiencing hooded or drooping eyelids. The procedure removes excess fat and skin from around the eyes to give a more rejuvenated appearance with minimal scarring.

Ageing neck

We can spend a lot of time concentrating on making sure our faces look fresh and rejuvenated but many of us forget to take care of our necks which can be a big area of concern when it comes to ageing. The skin on our necks is more delicate and less elastic so it can often appear wrinkled and saggy compared to the skin on our faces. Making sure you include your neck in your skincare routines is the best way to delay the signs of ageing in this area but there also a variety of treatments available to help rejuvenate the neck area.

Ultherapy

Ultherapy is a great all rounder treatment that can effectively treat the entire face as well as the neck and décolletage. It uses micro focused ultrasound to lift and tighten loose skin stimulates the production of collagen to ensure your results continue to improve over time. There is no downtime required after Ultherapy so it is ideal for those with busy lives or who may want to keep their treatment a secret.

Find out more about Ultherapy here.

Profhilo

Profhilo is an injectable treatment that works to improving the skin’s tissue quality. It involves injecting a 100% HA (Hyaluronic Acid) solution which spreads out within the skin and remodels the skins structure, nourishes dermal cells and treats skin laxity. The results are gradual, and you will require two treatments, but the results can be very effective in the majority of cases.

Find out more about Profhilo here.

Thread lift

Thread lift treatments are another great all-rounder with their ability to treat numerous areas on the face and neck. The threads are inserted underneath the skin and have small cones which hold them in place allowing them to effectively pull up skin around the neck that is sagging. The threads are also really effective at encouraging the body to produce additional collagen to help the skin look plump and hydrated.

Find out more about Thread lifts here.

Another common area of concern that we get in our clinic is Pigmentation. Pigmentation can be caused by a number of factors such as sun exposure, pregnancy, medical conditions, hormonal changes and even trauma to the skin.

In most cases, pigmentation is caused by sun exposure which is why it is so important to protect your skin by wearing sun protection every day – no matter what the weather may be.

We have a range of treatment options to help reduce the appearance of pigmentation on the skin which includes:

IPL Photorejuvenation

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photorejuvenation treatment is one of our most popular treatments for pigmentation. The treatment uses short bursts of intense pulsed light to help break down areas of pigmentation on the skin. A course of treatment is required for the best results.

Obagi

Obagi is a global speciality pharmaceutical company that is founded by leading skin care experts. In our clinics we offer a range of Obagi product systems that are a series of products designed to be used together to help treat specific skin concerns such as pigmentation.

The Obagi-C Rx System includes products that contain prescription-strength 4% hydroquinone and vitamin C to effectively reduce the appearance of pigmentation, including dark spots and melasma and encourages skin renewal.  We offer free skin consultations to discuss our Obagi treatments and products and a thorough skin assessment will enable us to tailor a treatment plan specific to your skin type and concerns.

Trinny Woodall asked Alice Hart Davis an interesting question towards the end of the episode about whether she felt her appearance was more down to the treatments she has had done or her skincare routine to which Alice replied with her skincare routine.

You can watch the video here

Cellulite: symptoms, causes and treatment

November 20, 2019 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite, also known as orange-peel skin, is the formation of lumps and dimples in the skin that affects 80-90% of women at some point in their lives. Cellulite is most common on the thighs and buttocks but can also appear on the hips, abdomen, upper arms and breasts.

A cellulite severity grade

Known as the ‘Nurnberger-Muller Scale’ this scale classifies cellulite into 4 different categories.

GRADE

DESCRIPTION

Grade 0 No dimpling visible
Grade 1 When skin is pinched, between 1-4  superficial depression can be seen but is otherwise smooth.
Grade 2 Between 5 -9 nine medium-depth depressions appear on the skin when standing.
Grade 3 10 or more deep depressions visible at all times.

What causes cellulite?

The definitive cause of cellulite is unknown however the reason for its appearance is down to the fat cells underneath the skin. We have fibrous connective cords that tether the skin to underlying muscle beneath the skin and any fat tends to lie between these. When fat cells accumulate, they can instead push up against the skin whilst the fibrous connective cords are pulling down which then causes an uneven surface to the skin and dimpling known as cellulite.

Just because cellulite involves fat cells however does not mean that weight gain is a cause. Weight gain can make cellulite more noticeable but many people who are very fit and lean can develop cellulite too. It is thought that cellulite could be genetics as it does tend to run in families.

Can cellulite be treated?

Cellulite is difficult to treat, but at The Private Clinic we have some great treatments to help you reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Mesotherapy for Cellulite

Mesotherapy is not a new technique, having been established originally in the 1950s in France – it was previously used to help improve circulation whilst treating infections and vascular diseases too.

Mesotherapy these days can be used all over the body to help with general skin rejuvenation, hair loss and cellulite. Mesotherapy involves injected the area being treated with a formula of medications. These will help to break down the connective tissue bands and therefore reduce the trapped fat resulting in a smoother appearance to the skin.

Body Ballancer for Cellulite

Body Ballancer is a compression therapy treatment which uses the principles and techniques of manual lymphatic drainage massages. Patients will be required to wear a specialised garment before relaxing on the treatment bed. The garment will then inflate to simulate a gentle to firm massage as set by the practitioner.

Body Ballancer treatment works to boost circulation by bringing healthy oxygenated blood to the areas being treated. This combined with the massage action will help to effectively breakdown the build-up and appearance of cellulite.

Cellulite Package Treatment

Available exclusively at The Private Clinic, we are able to offer our patients a Cellulite Treatment package which combined Mesotherapy and Body Ballancer treatments together to help you achieve the best result.

The top 10 Skin Treatments for Younger and Fresher Looking Skin

June 11, 2019 by Julia Morgan Leave a Comment

In this blog post, we will be covering the top skin rejuvenation treatments to achieve younger and fresher skin, so you are ready for summer.

rejuvanting skin treatments

1. Laser skin resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is a non-invasive laser treatment ideal to rejuvenate the skin as it can target sun damaged skin, pigmentation, brown spots and fine lines and wrinkles.

At The Private Clinic we offer three different types of laser skin resurfacing options:

  • Pearl Laser: The pearl laser treatment targets early signs of ageing, sun damage and wrinkles. There is no downtime with this procedure.
  • Pearl Fractional: Our pearl fractitional treatment is used for deeper wrinkles or particular areas of more severe damage, Pearl Fractional penetrates deeper into the skin to rejuvenate fully.
  • Pearl Fusion: This is a combination of the two procedures. Pearl is used first to improve the whole texture of the face and then Pearl Fractional is used to target deeper wrinkles.

2. Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are non-invasive treatments that use hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in our body to plump up the skin and fill in lines, wrinkles or contour the face.

There are several areas that can be targeted with Dermal fillers depending on your desired goals.

  • Under the eyes (Tear Trough). Filler around this area can help remove dark circles giving a fresher and more youthful appearance.

  • Lips to improve the volume and shape.
  • Cheeks to help create a more contoured look and fuller cheeks.

  • Nose to mouth lines (Naso-labial folds) to rejuvenate the lower part of the face.
  • Mouth to Chin lines (Marionette lines)
  • Lip Lines
  • 8 point lift or non-surgical facelift is another option available. That consists of targeting several areas of the face simulating a surgical facelift.

3.One stitch facelift/temporal lift

The one-stitch facelift or 3D Facelift is a surgical procedure, less invasive than a full facelift carried out under local anaesthetic. The results are more subtle in comparison to a full traditional facelift but it provides a firmer, tighter and more rejuvenated appearance to the face. All the stitches are completely hidden under the hairline. There is also a lower risk of swelling and bruising and there is minimal downtime required as patients can be back to work in a day.

4. Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels are a skin treatment ideal to treat tired skin, sun damaged skin, fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. The treatment consists of an intense exfoliating process to remove all the dead cells from the skin surface to reveal a smoother and more even skin.

5. Anti-wrinkle injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are a treatment to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The substance injected (Botulinum toxin), relaxes the facial muscles responsible for causing the moments that create these lines and wrinkles.  This treatment not only targets existing signs of ageing but also prevents the formation of new lines.

6. Thermage

Thermage is a non-invasive procedure able to tighten and contour the skin at the same time.  Thermage is ideal for patients who want to tighten loose jowls, sagging skin, lines and wrinkles or smooth out any dimples or bulges on the skin.

7. Profhilo

Profhilo is an injectable treatment that encourages your skin to produce more collagen to help rejuvenate the skin and minimise the signs of ageing. This treatment uses a hyaluronic acid solution that spreads within the skin to nourish the dermal cells, to help remodel the skin structure to restore the firmness and elasticity of the skin.

8. Obagi Nu Derm

Obagi Nu-Derm system is a prescribed skin care routine to improve and refresh the overall look of the skin. The system includes a gentle cleanser, toner, correcting cream, blending cream, lotion, moisturiser and sun protection cream. Obagi caters to patients all ages, gender and skin types.

9. Microneedling

Microneedling  is a skin rejuvenating treatment ideal to achieve a smoother, brighter and fresher looking skin. The Dermaroller is a medical roller with hundreds of micro-skin needles. The device is passed across the skin causing small micro punctures in the skin to stimulate the auto regeneration and repair of the skin. A dermapen is an electronic mechanism device with a series of micro-skin needles that vertically pierce the skin to create thousands of tiny puncture points. The tiny punctures then activate the body’s natural ability to heal wounds which encourages the renewal of skin cells and the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

10. Handy Plasma Non Surgical Eyelift

The Handy Plasma non-surgical eyelift treatment is a new way to help improve the appearance of the loose eyelid skin and puffy eyelids without the downtime and costs from surgery. The plasma treatment works by stimulating the contraction, shortening and tightening of skin fibres which then results in a tightening of the skin. The Handy Plasma non-surgical eyelift treatment is a powerful and effective alternative to surgical procedures such as blepharoplasty. This non-surgical treatment is often preferred by patients seeking less invasive procedures with reduced recovery time and none of the complications that can arise before and after surgery.

At The Private Clinic, we first listen to what you are seeking to achieve. We can then advise on the optimum course of action for your skin type. The best thing is to book a consultation to discuss the various options available to you.

Celebrity Skin Care Secrets

January 25, 2019 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

As the faces of age defying celebrities grace our screens, social media feeds and favourite magazine covers it can often leave us wondering what their secret is. Without delving deep into their personal diaries the answers are usually hard to find but many celebrities have started sharing their beauty secrets and the treatments mentioned are actually more attainable then you originally might have thought.

Model, Isabeli Fontana has recently been reported to recommend having “a little bit of Botox” endorsing the treatment in a candid interview about how to overcome ageing in modelling.

“A little bit of Botox is not bad,  Botox can change your face a lot, so it has to be very subtle, but if you don’t do it, age will mark your skin and I don’t like that at all.”

What Isabeli is touching on is actually a very common misconception of cosmetic treatments like botox and dermal filler making your face look ‘overdone’ and unnatural. At The Private Clinic, we like our patients to achieve a more natural look, instead of changing their appearance it is out aim to restore their face leaving them both looking and feeling fresher and more rejuvenated rather than having a new identify.

Cameron Diaz touched on this by saying “They’re to help people feel a little bit better about themselves.” in her book titled ‘The Longevity Book’. “If they do feel better about themselves, then those procedures have worked. I have no problem with that. And in a lot of instances, it does make you look like you’ve taken a nap…or that you might be a little younger than you looked maybe the day before.”

Another celebrity botox fan is American presenter Kelly Ripa who had admitted to having ‘bad botox’ previously but when done in the right way she is proof that natural results can be achieved and that cosmetic treatments do not have to completely change your appearance.

Another great treatment that is a celebrity favourite is Intense Pulsed Light Photorejuvenation which is more commonly referred to as IPL. IPL Skin Rejuvenation is a really effective skin rejuvenation treatment to help smooth and tone the texture of your skin and can really help patients who have rosacea, age spots, sun damage/spots and general skin tone irregularities.

Angela Jolie is reportedly a big fan of IPL treatment after experiencing dark spots on her face after pregnancy.

“When I got pregnant, I had darker areas [on my face] that got darker. So I do IPL every once in a while”

The photo facial is a hit with many other celebrities including Khloe Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston. It is a great treatment for restoring your youthful glow without super-invasive treatment.

We finish off our celebrity treatment secrets with the often shied away from; chemical peel treatment. The name is slightly concerning but we can assure you that only good chemicals are used in chemical peel treatments that are not going to damage your face. There are a lot of varieties of chemical peels including glycolic peels, enzyme peels and TCA peels each targeting different skin concerns and come in different strengths so we recommend that you visit one of our skin specialists who can help guide you on what peel is going to give you the best results.

It has been reported that Beyonce herself is a keen fan of an Enzyme Peel which she has on a monthly basis. An enzyme peel is a type of peel that can help to remove keratin build up and helps to brighten and clarify the skin often reducing scars, age spots, fine lines and pigmentation with regular use.

The Private Clinic have a team of experienced skin experts who offer free consultations to all patients who are looking to refresh your skin. Whether you are new to aesthetic treatments or have tried them previously, our team are devoted to helping you achieve the best and most natural results.

We have skin rejuvenation and injectable clinics across the UK including, London Harley Street, Birmingham, Bristol, Buckinghamshire,  Leeds, Manchester and Northampton.

How to remove and minimise the appearance of wrinkles?

December 29, 2018 by Julia Morgan Leave a Comment

Fine lines and wrinkles are the main signs of ageing that you may want to erase or delay their appearance. There are many non-surgical treatments available to tackle this issue and that will help achieve a more youthful and rejuvenated look.

In this blog post, we will be addressing the most efficient non-surgical treatments to improve the appearance of the skin, remove and delay the signs of ageing.

Wrinkle Injections

Wrinkle injections are a non-invasive procedure which consists in injecting small doses of a high- quality toxin called Botulinum, which is FDA approved for medical and cosmetic use. This procedure is used to relax the muscle which causes the creation of wrinkles and fine lines giving a smooth and rejuvenated appearance.

Dermal filler can also be applied to several areas of the skin to add volume to the lips, cheeks, chin, and nose to mouth lines and is also able to perform an “8 Point Lift” which replicates the results of the surgical facelift.

You can see before and after images of dermal filler results on our website.

Thermage

Thermage is a non-invasive treatment able to contour and tighten the skin at once. It consists of a laser treatment which uses heat to stimulate the natural production of collagen of the body creating the effect that can be similar to a non-surgical facelift.

Thermage is a procedure that can be performed on the face, body, neck and décolletage smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. The results are natural and can be seen over the period of 6 months of the treatment.

Laser Skin Tightening

Laser skin tightening is a minimally invasive laser procedure able to improve the skin texture and firmness by stimulating the production of collagen. This procedure uses infrared light to tighten and reduce the signs of ageing providing by inducing the formation of new collagen leaving nearly instant results. The most noticeable results can be seen 4 weeks after the treatment and will continue to improve over the following 6 months.

Profhilo

Profhilo is an injectable treatment to remodel the skin. This treatment consists in the injection of Prophilo (100% Hyaluronic Acid) which enables the production of the body’s own collagen for a tighter more youthful looking skin improving its elasticity, hydration and overall brightness. Prophilo overall is able to improve the quality of the skin and enables the reduction of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Regenlite

Regenlite is a laser treatment which induces the production of collagen by the body. This procedure targets the microvessels present under the skin mimicking an injury, this way the body reacts by producing new collagen enabling the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, scars and stretch marks over time.

This treatment is non-invasive and the downtime required is minimal being able to return to work shortly after the procedure. The results from the Regenlite treatment can be seen over the following 3 months from the treatment.

December 27, 2018 by Julia Morgan Leave a Comment

Winter is one of the most important times of the year to look after your skin. The cold weather, the sun and the extreme changes in temperature due to the heating can negatively impact your skin, dehydrating it, making it appear dull and flat. Winter is also a time of festivities and family and friends reunions so looking your best is on the list.

In this blog, post you will be able to find some treatments to help you and your skin look your best this winter.

winter skin rejuvenation london

At The Private Clinic, we provide customised treatments to help our patients achieve their desired results based on their skincare needs and their skin concerns.

Brightening the face following winter blues.

To brighten up your skin during the winter months we have some treatments available that help bring the glow back into your skin as well as improve the quality of your skin.

Medical Microdermabrasion

Medical Microdermabrasion is a progressive treatment which consists of vacuuming with a jet of micro crystals the top layer of the skin. This treatment is suitable for all types of skin including sensitive skin. The result is a glowing, fresher and more youthful looking skin as it helps reduce dull skin, fine lines, ageing spots, acne scars and is ideal for sun-damaged skin.

Chemical Peel.

Chemical Peels are intensive exfoliating treatments using chemical products in order to resurface the skin and remove all the skin dead cells, resulting in much more even, smoother and brighter skin.

A great example is the Obagi Blue Peel which is used to brighten and tighten the skin targeting fine lines and wrinkles and can also help clear acne. This type of chemical peel involves minimal downtime and is performed in a series of treatments spaced 6 weeks apart.

Chemical Peel treatments are also ideal to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation and acne scars.

Microneedling

Microneedling treatment is ideal to improve the appearance of severe acne scars, skin tone and skin texture.

There are a variety of forms of microneedling treatment. The most common are dermaroller or dermapen.

Dermaroller treatment is a medical roller which is formed of hundreds of micro-skin needles. The dermaroller causes micro punctures in the surface of the skin when passed across the treated areas, stimulating the regeneration and repair of the skin leaving a brighter, smoother and healthier looking skin. Dermapen works in a similar way however it is a smaller medical device that is moved over the face where micro-skin needles will move back and forth to create micro punctures.
