Our face is often one of the first areas to first show the signs of ageing. Age spots, dry skin, crow’s feet, wrinkles, sagging skin, dark circles and generally looking tired are all big contributors to ageing skin.
There are lots of ways to help prevent these, one of the most important is regular use of sun protection but staying hydrated, reducing alcohol consumption and eating healthy diet are all going to help reduce the signs of ageing.
At The Private Clinic we see many patients come to see us seeking anti-ageing treatments. We are not able to stop the ageing process, but we can help your skin to look healthy and reduce the appearance of elements that can cause you to look older.
We have listed some of our top rated anti-ageing treatments below;
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing is one of the most innovative ways to rejuvenate ageing skin. It is an ideal treatment to help even out areas of discoloration and can also reduce the appearance of fine lines.
We use Pearl, Pearl Fractional and Pearl Fusion laser skin resurfacing. The three different treatments allow us to create a tailored experience that meets your skins needs with the aim of delivering the best possible outcome. The procedure involves treating the top layer of the skin with pulses of light in a pre-selected pattern.
Treatment times are approximately 20-30 minutes for the full face. A period of downtime may be required where skin may appear red and flaky for 3-5 days but in most cases, only one treatment is required.
Laser Skin Resurfacing is available at London Harley Street
Dermal fillers are one of the most popular anti-ageing treatments. Dermal Fillers can add volume ad definition to the face and are particularly effective in creating more prominent cheeks, fuller lips and reducing the appearance of lines around the nose and mouth.
Dermal Fillers are made from Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural substance found in the body. Hyaluronic acid is able to hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water which helps to hydrate the skin. As well as keeping the skin hydrated, when injected, it is also able to plump and volume to the skin which in turn can also reduce the appearance of fine lines. Dermal fillers can also be used at certain points in the face to give the impression of a facelift which is known as the 8 point lift.
Dermal filler treatment takes around 30 minutes to perform and although the results are instant, they are best seen a week or so after treatment once any swelling has subsided. Overall there is not a huge amount of downtime, some patients may experience bruising and swelling but this should disappear within a week. Results from dermal filler treatment can last anywhere from 4 to 13 months depending on the areas being treated and the type of filler used.
Anti-wrinkle or wrinkle reduction injections are our second most popular anti-ageing treatment. Made from Botulinum Toxin, these injections are very effective at reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Small doses are injected into the areas being treated which then work to relax the muscles that are responsible for forming the wrinkles.
Wrinkle relaxing injection treatment takes around 30 minutes. The results are not instant and most results can take up to 10 days to be seen. The treated areas may appear a little red following treatment and in rare cases bruising may appear but this should disappear within a few days. Results can last from 3 to 6 months and regular treatments are required to maintain them.
Profhilo is a great treatment for skin rejuvenation. The unique bioremodelling injectable treatment contains hyaluronic acid but it does not does not plump or add any volume to the areas treated. The solution instead spreads within the skin to remodel the skins structure, nourish the dermal cells and treats skin laxity restoring the firmness of your skin. This is a great treatment to help boost the effects of dermal filler and anti-wrinkle injections.
Profhilo treatment times are around 30 minutes and it can be performed on any area of the body. The most popular areas to treat are the face, décolletage and hands. To achieve the best results, you will need two treatments spaced a month apart. The full effects of Profhilo are not seen until 8-10 weeks following your first treatment.
IPL Photorejuvenation is a really effective non-invasive skin treatment to help smooth and even out the tone of the skin. Patients with age spots, sun damage and general skin tone irregularities can expect to achieve great results and more youthful and fresher looking skin.
The treatment uses intense pulsed light which passes through the skin epidermis, deeper into the dermis where the pulsed light energy heats up and stimulates cells called fibroblasts which encourages the production of fresh collagen. The wide range of light waves that IPL emits also work to reduce the appearance of redness, brown spots and discoloration in the skin as they will absorb the light and start to fade following a course of treatment.
IPL Photorejuvenation takes around 1 hour to perform. The treatment is relatively pain free although many describe the sensation as being flicked with an elastic band. We usually recommend a course of 5 treatments but this will vary depending on the areas being treated and the condition of the skin. Results from IPL treatment can usually start to be seen a week after each procedure. The best results are seen 3-5 months after the last treatment. Following a course of treatment, it is advised to have at least 1 or 2 treatments per year to maintain the results.
IPL Photorejuvenation is available at our London Harley Street clinic.
Plasma Eye Lift
Sagging eyelids are a typical sign of ageing. It is often down to the muscles responsible for lifting the eyelid becoming weak and stretched which then causes the skin to droop. Often, surgery is the only way to improve the appearance of a hooded eyelid but for many – surgery is not an option.
The Plasma Eye lift is a non-surgical treatment that can help to reduce and improve the appearance of loose eyelid skin and puffy eyelids without the downtime and costs from surgery. The treatment involves using a Plasma Pen device applicator over the area being treated. The device ionises the gas particles in the air between the device tip and your skin emitting a small electric arc. This results in a substance known as plasma being created which causes skin tissue in the area being treated to go from being solid to a gas state therefore instantly vaporizing the excess skin and tightening what remains leaving a carbon crust on the area. There will be a period of downtime as the crust heals but results in any excess skin being considerably reduced.
The treatment takes around 30-40 minutes to perform. Local anaesthetic will be applied to the area being treated and our expert team will ensure you are feeling comfortable throughout the treatment. We recommend allowing a downtime of around 4-10 days to allow the area to heal, redness, swelling and the crust will most likely be visible during this time. The best results are seen after 3 weeks once the area has fully healed. Many patients only require 1 treatment but some may benefit from 2. The results are permanent however, the natural ageing process will still continue so further treatment may be required in the future if you are prone to eyelid sagging.
The Plasma Eye lift is available at our London Harley Street clinic.
