MicroLipo Breast Reduction

The Problem

After menopause, much of the glandular tissue in the breasts is replaced by fatty tissue. This can leave some women with excessively large breasts, causing pain, physical impairment and psychological problems.

Many women find overly large breasts to be an unwelcome burden. MicroLipo Breast Reduction is an innovative and minimally-invasive way to feel comfortable and confident in your body. Please note this procedure is only suitable for women post menopause. For those who have not yet reached the menopause, surgical breast reduction is normally the best way forward.

After menopause, much of the glandular tissue in the breasts is replaced by fatty tissue. This can leave some women with excessively large breasts, causing pain, physical impairment and psychological problems. Sport is significantly limited. Changes in posture can lead to chronic pain in the back, neck and shoulders. Pressure from bra straps can cause permanent indentations of the shoulders.

Large breasts can predispose women to yeast infections of the skin in areas where the skin rubs together. A woman who has very large breasts may regard them as cosmetically undesirable. Finding a bra that fits and is comfortable may be impossible. Clothing does not fit well.

Surgical Breast reduction if you are pre-menopause

If your breasts are large and possibly droopy and you feel a reduction in shape, possibly with a lift would help, a surgical Breast Reduction (often combined with a Breast Uplift, mastopexy) could be the procedure you need.  A surgical breast reduction procedure (also known as mammoplasty) will reduce the size, weight and volume of your breasts. The Problem

After menopause, much of the glandular tissue in the breasts is replaced by fatty tissue. This can leave some women with excessively large breasts, causing pain, physical impairment and psychological problems.

Revolutionary to the UK, the Microcannula Technique or MicroLipo permits breast reduction without the need to undergoing major surgery. It is minimally invasive and as such it allows rapid postoperative recovery, quick return to normal activities, and virtually no scarring.

The advantages of MicroLipo (Breast Liposuction) for breast reduction are:

  • No General Anaesthetic
  • No Surgical Scars
  • Minimal Trauma to Breast Tissue
  • Rapid recovery. The typical patient can return to work and normal social activity within two to three days after surgery
  • Minimal risks of postoperative complications

FAQs

How does MicroLipo for Breast Reduction work?

With the Microcannula Technique large amounts of very dilute local anaesthesia is injected into the fat causing the targeted areas to become swollen and firm. The fat is then removed using microcannulas with a diameter less than 3 millimetres. The use of microcannulas allows smoother and uniform results.

The Microcannula technique is the brainchild of Dr. Jeffrey Klein who wanted to achieve excellent cosmetic results but with rapid post-operative return to normal activities. Since the invention, Dr. Klein has taught the technique to hundreds of doctors in California.

We are one of few European clinics certified in the KleinLipo technique.

Micro Liposuction Breast Reduction Step-by-Step:

  • Measure the volume of each breast
  • Use indelible ink to draw lines on the breasts that will help the doctor during the infiltration process, and during surgery
  • The doctor will inject a small volume of local anaesthetic into the skin
  • Create a tiny 1 mm diameter holes in the skin using a skin punch
  • Do liposuction of the breast using microcannulas
  • After liposuction is completed, put on breast compression garment
  • Shower and change pads twice daily for the next few days. Most patients can discontinue the use of breast compression garments within 3 to 6 days

What are the advantages of Non-Surgical Breast Reduction?

No Surgical Scars

Surgical scars are not visible in most patients after breast reduction by liposuction using microcannulas. Evidence of the micro-incisions, that are much smaller than 1 millimetre, usually disappears within a few weeks. In contrast, traditional breast reduction is associated with much larger scars and more visible scars.

Breast Lifting

Liposuction reduces breast size in direct proportion to the volume of fat removed. Liposuction reduces the weight of the breast and allows the natural elastic tissue in the breast to retract and produce a visible breast lift.

Breast-Feeding After Breast Reduction

Breast-feeding after breast reduction is a more likely possibility after liposuction using microcannulas than after a surgical excision. Because there is minimal trauma to glandular breast tissue it is reasonable to predict that a breast reduction by liposuction should not interfere with future lactation. Breast-feeding may not be possible after traditional surgical-excision breast reduction because the excisions and subsequent scaring severs and blocks the milk ducts.

Minimal Trauma to Breast Tissue

There is so little trauma to the breast tissue that x-ray examinations of the breast, known as mammograms, usually appear normal after microcannula liposuction of the female breast. In contrast, after excisional breast reduction, x-ray mammograms show calcification and other changes in appearance.

Local Anaesthesia Vs General Anaesthesia

Breast reduction by liposuction using microcannulas can be accomplished totally by local anaesthesia. Local anaesthesia is usually considered safer than general anaesthesia. In the hands of a surgeon who is well trained and experienced at doing liposuction totally by local anaesthesia, breast liposuction is routinely accomplished with virtually no pain.

Correction of asymmetry

Measuring the breast volume is accomplished by immersing the breast in a beaker full to the brim of comfortably warm water. An accurate measurement of breast volume is necessary for planning the amount of fat to be removed from each breast. If the breasts are originally unequal in size, then the surgeon can remove an appropriate extra volume of fat from the larger breast, and thus improve the symmetry of the breasts.

Consultation to assertain your suitability for MicroLipo Breast Reduction will cost £50 – this is fully redeemable against your treatment and transferable to our surgeons for traditional breast reduction should MicroLipo not be suitable for your needs.

Who is a suitable candidate for Breast Reduction with MicroLipo?

MicroLipo breast reduction is only suitable for women who have undergone or are experiencing the menopause with a large proportion of fat in the area. For those who have not yet reached menopause or have more glandular tissue than fat, we will normally recommend surgical breast reduction.

This is because after menopause, much of the glandular tissue in the breasts is replaced by fatty tissue, making post-menopausal women with large breasts usually very good candidates. Breast reduction by liposuction will produce a smaller version of the breasts, but with an overall similar shape pre-procedure.

Women who are not ideal candidates for breast reduction by liposuction include those whose breasts contain more glandular tissue than fat tissue. For breasts that appear to sag or droop significantly and contain only a small amount of tissue, liposuction will not provide satisfactory cosmetic improvement. Such “empty” breasts contain little fat and therefore will not be improved by liposuction. Cosmetic improvement of “empty” breasts usually requires excision of skin, as well as breast implants.

A good candidate must also have realistic expectations. Liposuction can usually be expected to provide no more than a 55 percent reduction in breast size. Women who need more than a 55 percent reduction in breast size might be happier with the results of traditional surgical breast reduction surgery, despite the risk of unsightly scars associated with the excision of skin and breast tissue.

What are the risks and possible complications?

Any type of surgery can result in a surgical complication. Traditional breast reduction by excision is associated with more complications than breast reduction by liposuction. A complication that can occur with liposuction is excessive bruising due to the use of a poorly designed elastic compression garment and inadequate post-operative compression. This bruising typically resolves without any problem.

    Comments from patients

Just a mini update to let you, Dr Gupta & Beverly know that everything is going just fine with my boobs! They are obviously still  healing (2 weeks 4 days since the procedure now!). They were understandably a little swollen sore & tender for a couple of weeks

But this latter 4 days, both boobs appear to have turned an amazing corner in the healing process.
Both have lost the serious swelling, and starting to look absolutely wonderful! There is absolutely no sagging or stretching of the skin at all! They are now wonderfully small and really really firm.

Even though a way to go….I am over the moon delighted! Dr Gupta is beginning to look like a genius to me at the moment.” *

“34F – that was me with dents in my shoulders and paying £80 for a bra that looked so old fashioned with thick straps and a fastener that was 2 inches wide. That was until I met Dr. Puneet Gupta who has literally changed my life.

I had my consultation with Dr Gupta and he made me feel so at ease and explained the whole process of a breast reduction using microcannular liposuction, making sketches explaining what would go where, how long the process would take, recovery period and said to go away and think about it. I didnt want to go away and think about it and booked a date there and then for my breast reduction.

I never once felt apprehensive about my decision and couldn’t wait to get the job done.

My day arrived and feeling so excited off I went. I actually watched the whole procedure, albeit a little drowsy, and it was all done within 2 hours.

I was in a little discomfort for 3 days and waited for the swelling to go down and then I looked at my wonderful new breasts. The heaviness had gone and they looked exactly the same, no loose skin, nipples exactly in the same place, but smaller. Perfect.

Dr. Gupta reduced my breasts from a 34F to 34D and it is an absolute pleasure to be able to buy pretty bras with thin straps and thin fasteners. My clothes fit so much better and no gaping shirts any more.

Thank you Dr. Gupta you literally have changed my life.” *

“As a 34F I’ve always dreamed of having smaller boobs. I was never able to find the ‘perfect dress’ as what would fit my waist would never fit my chest! Finding bikinis that would fit and support me was a nightmare, and going underwear shopping only ever left me with buying and ugly one and not the pretty lace one I wanted to buy! The list goes on and I always felt self conscious about it.

So breast reduction for me was something I very much wanted to do but the thought of surgery scared me. I didn’t want to end up with scars. I researched hard and found this Microlipo procedure. It wasn’t surgical and there is more or less no scarring – I booked myself in for a consult straightaway!

I made a decision to go ahead and the rest is history as they say – I am thrilled to bits with the whole process. Dr Gupta made me feel very much at ease, I was awake during the procedure yet the nurses and doctors reassured me that I was fine. I was very excited to drop the label as ‘ the girl with the big boobs’! As for my life now, I finally feel in proportion with the rest of my body.

My friends and colleagues can notice the difference it has made on me and every time I look in the mirror it just looks right, and not all squashed in my dress. What’s even better is that my boobs aren’t so saggy anymore, it has given me a lift and that is amazing – and I have no scarring!

I really can’t begin to express how much this has had an impact on me, it really has changed my life in many aspects! If anyone has felt the way I have with big boobs, then go see Dr Gupta!” *

“After having suffered for so long with my large breasts it came to a point where I couldn’t really go on much longer. I was lucky enough to see a surgeon who I was introduced to by Channel 4 TV programme. He talked me through the traditional breast reduction procedure that was heavily invasive and to be honest, quite daunting.

I was very scared and the risks involved were too much not to mention the scarring. I decided not to go ahead but in fact looked into breast reduction a lot more – this is when I came acrossMicrolipo Breast Reduction at The Private Clinic.

I met Dr Gupta who was lovely and talked though the whole minimally-invasive procedure which I would go though only under local anaesthetic. I was sold, but intrigued to know more. He talked more about the microcannula and how the tinniest incision is made to my breasts to extract breast tissue and fat. I went ahead and have never looked back.

I don’t get rude remarks anymore, my clothes fit better, I’m more in proportion and I feel so much better about myself. People don’t stare so much that they invade my space. The treatment really has been life changing for me and I can’t that Dr Gupta enough!

It’s amazing, I’d recommend it to many women out there who have suffered!” *

“For the past 10 years I have suffered neck, shoulder and back pain due to an increase in my breast size which occurred during and after menopause. I have been considering having a breast reduction since 2006, but had been put off having conventional breast reduction due to the recovery time following the operation. I was also concerned that any post operation infections could have prolonged this period.

At the beginning of this year I came across some internet articles about breast reduction by liposuction. I read as much as I could find about the procedure and felt my age and breast size met the criteria for this type of reduction to be successful. I then searched the internet to find out where I could have the operation done in the UK, and found that the only Dr. carrying out the procedure in Britain was Dr Puneet Gupta at The Private Clinic, in Harley Street, London.

I was given an initial appointment at The Private Clinic’s Manchester consulting rooms where I was assessed for the procedure by one of the senior nursing staff. She was of the opinion that liposuction breast reduction would be beneficial to me, and I was then referred to see Dr Gupta in Harley Street for a consultation. Dr Gupta also felt that the procedure would be beneficial and I arranged to have the reduction on March 14th of this year at the clinic in Knightsbridge.

The procedure took two and a half hours from start to finish. I had to wear a compression garment with dressings for a few days. I had started a course of antibiotics the day before the operation and was also given a course of pain killers. Within a few days the discomfort began to decrease and I returned to work nine days after the procedure. I tired easily for a further two weeks, but almost exactly four weeks to the day from my operation I was back to full health, and feeling really well.

The operation has helped me tremendously. I no longer suffer from the neck, shoulder and back pain I lived with for so long and I am looking forward to being able to exercise a lot more now I do not have the problem of large breasts, It has truly changed my life and I would recommend this procedure to any woman of my age with the same problems I have experienced.” *
