What are CC’s? – We explain Breast Implant Sizing
Breast Implants are measured in cubic centimetres otherwise known as CC. You may not have come across this form of measurement as it is not as common in everyday life. Our unfamiliarity with this can make decoding what size implant is going to be best, a bit of a challenge.
In this blog we will look at CCs, how they relate to breast implants and how to figure out the perfect breast implant size for you.
What is a cubic centimetre?
A cubic centimetre is used medically to measure things such as the volume of blood, medication, and breast implants.
One cubic centimetre is equivalent to one millilitre, which is a very small amount of volume. Being able to measure this precisely is important for scientific and medical usage where a small variation in volume can have a significant impact on results.
This level of precision is important in many scientific and medical applications, where a small variation in volume can have a significant impact on results.
What does cc in breast implants mean?
The volume of saline liquid or silicone gel that fills the inside of a Breast Implant is measured in cc. The higher the cc, the larger and heavier the implants.
Breast implants typically range from 100cc to 800cc and can be in 10cc increments or less.
Can I use cup sizes to pick a breast implant?
Bra cup sizes vary between brands and are widely inconsistent. So, estimating using cup sizing is not realistic, nor is it a reliable form of measurement for breast augmentation.
If you have a specific cup size in mind, it is still worth mentioning this to your surgeon. As a guide, we suggest that 130-150cc is the equivalent of 1 cup size. So, they may be able to suggest which implant size could increase your cup size by 1 or 2 cups, but they will not be able to guarantee a final cup size.

How do I choose an implant size in cc’s?
Whilst we recommend that patients have an ideal goal in mind before attending their breast enlargement consultation, it is not best to be set on an implant CC size. This best size of implant is going to differ from patient to patient depending on other factors such as;
- Existing breast tissue
- Chest Measurements
- Skin Elasticity
- Lifestyle
- Patient preferences
When you attend a consultation with your surgeon, they will take measurements from you including details of your height, weight, body frame, shoulder width and starting breast volume. All of these will need to be considered when it comes to choosing your implant.
Your surgeon will select which Breast Implant CC size they believe will be best for you. However, implant size does not just involve CC, you also need to consider the shape of the implant, implant profile and implant placement as these will all have an impact on your breast enlargement results.
What is an implant profile?
Implants come in a section of profile sizes, most common are low, moderate, and high. Implant profile sizes determine how much projection and upper pole fullness can be achieved. Each implant profile is suited to a particular type of body frame.
- Low Profile – Low profile implants do not have much projection and are best for patients with a wider frame.
- Moderate Profile – Moderate profile implants have slightly more projection but still side wider. Best for patients looking for a noticeable but natural-looking result.
- High Profile – A high-profile implant provides significant projection and is best for patients with a smaller or narrower frame.

Is there a limit to how many CCs I can have?
Yes, there is always a limit to how many ccs you can have. At The Private Clinic, our surgeons favour a natural result and will therefore not recommend overly large implant sizes where they do not feel the result is going to be in proportion to the rest of your body.
A consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon who specialises in breast surgery is the best way to determine the implant for your breast augmentation surgery.
Summary
Breast Implants are sized in cubic centimetres, but we do not expect patients to know what breast implant size they want in ccs before they have a consultation.
Consultations with our experienced consultant plastic surgeons will include an assessment where areas of the chest are measured to assist them with deciding on which breast implant size, they feel will be best suited.
Breast Implant sizes will look different for everyone depending on their existing breast tissue and frame. What may be a perfect-sized implant for one patient, is not going to achieve the same result for another patient.
Our surgeons will work with you to figure out your ideal breast implant to help you make a more informed decision and understand what a realistically be achieved from breast enlargement surgery.
