Daddy Do-Over

What are “Daddy Do-Overs”?

August 31, 2019 by Julia Morgan Leave a Comment

Mommy makeovers are a popular procedure among women typically after pregnancy as they want to get their bodies back to how they looked before pregnancy. Mommy makeovers typically involve a combination of procedures such as liposuction, breast lift and tummy tuck. Now, there has been a rise in men who want to undergo different procedures to get away from their “dad bods”. This new male cosmetic trend is popularly known as “daddy do-over” for liposuction treatments the most popular treatment areas include chest, abdomen and flanks.

Nonetheless, liposuction is not the only cosmetic produce rising in popularity among men; according to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons more than 1 million men have had cosmetic surgery in 2018, this is a 29% increase since 2000.

The most popular Cosmetic Surgery procedures for men include:

Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) to correct the nasal bridge, adjust the tip of the nose or to refine the base of the nose.

At The Private Clinic, we offer different types of rhinoplasty procedure to suit the different patient needs.

  • Standard Rhinoplasty: this procedure focus on achieving a full nose correction (bridge, nose tip and alar base).
  • Septo-Rhinoplasty: This procedure consists of combining a standard rhinoplasty and the correction of a deviated septum.
  • Rhino-Tip: This procedure aims to correct the tip of the nose and nostrils.
  • Preservation Rhinoplasty: An innovative type of rhinoplasty less invasive than traditional rhinoplasty procedure that consists of preserving the structure of the nose providing natural-looking results with minimal downtime.

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is also a popular procedure among men to rejuvenate their appearance. Blepharoplasty is a relatively quick procedure that targets the upper, lower or both eyelid lids and is performed under general anaesthetic.  Lower eyelid surgery ideal for eye bag removal and can also reduce puffiness smoothing and tightening the skin around the under-eye area.

Male chest reduction is also one of the most desired procedures for men. Male chest reduction or Gynecomastia is a procedure to reduce excess fat on the male chest. There are different options available to remove the excess fat around this area, including VASER Liposuction, MicroLipo or Surgical Liposuction. Our specialised surgeons will be able to recommend the best procedure for you.

“My man boobs were always a problem and I felt embarrassed in the changing rooms after going to the gym. I had a fit body and good physique but with breasts!I had Vaser Lipo and after reduced bruising and swelling the results look impressive! I would recommend it to anyone!” Alex

Varicose veins, thread veins and facial veins are also a cause of concern for many men who seek treatment for aesthetic and health reasons. Martin, one of our varicose vein patients underwent VenaSeal treatment to treat his varicose veins at The Private Clinic and now he cannot be happier with his results.

“I couldn’t be happier with results and I would absolutely recommend the treatment to anyone who is suffering from the condition.  I was so impressed with Dr Rittoo and his team, they made me feel completely at ease at every stage of the procedure.” Martin.

Not only surgical procedures are becoming increasingly popular for men but also non-invasive treatments such as dermal fillers and Botox are seeing a rise in demand among male patients.

Dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally produced by our bodies able to restore the loss of volume in several areas of the face. Tear trough fillers, nose-to-mouth fillers, jawline filler and chin fillers are the most sought-after types of filler for men to smooth and gently rejuvenate and refresh the face.

Botox is a highly demanded treatment to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and is ideal to prevent the formation of new ones.

At The Private Clinic, we work with top consultant plastic surgeons, liposuction and body contouring surgeons and aesthetic doctors highly specialised in their fields.

Clinic locations across the UK, Harley Street (London), Bristol, Northampton, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham  and Buckinghamshire.

A guide to Plastic Surgery for men

March 1, 2016 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Women are chronically portrayed as the gender that cares and pays most attention to beauty, health, and style, but such stereotypes are being brought down daily because men aren’t blind to the fact that our society values youth and beauty – nor are men creatures devoid of vanity.

In fact, those eager to climb the corporate ladder know that in a competitive environment it’s important to use every advantage at your disposal while those already in successful posts want their features to reflect their confidence and position. For instance, the world’s first billionaire, John Paul Getty, had no qualms about having had a Facelift in the late sixties, and he was not only a very proud man but also a fierce negotiator to boot.

Men seeking plastic surgery procedures in the UK have doubled in the past decade, with celebrities’ openness about their cosmetic procedures definitely giving matters a helpful push in the right direction. What’s clear is that male plastic surgery has risen far above being a taboo – it’s been reported that in Brazil a man undergoes plastic surgery every two minutes!

So, let’s have a look at some of the most popular cosmetic procedures.

Blepharoplasty

Why opt for it?

Eyelid and Eye Bag Surgery are the most popular procedures among men and it’s pretty easy to see why – they’re:

• Swift – can be performed in as little time as 30 minutes and doesn’t require general anaesthesia.
• Safe – the procedures are straightforward, with a very high success and satisfaction rate.
• Convenient – the healing process is the quickest of all plastic surgeries, lasting as little as a couple of weeks.

Heavy skin and puffiness under the eyes can make you look tired even when you’re not, the results of a Blepharoplasty are quick to appear and will leave you with a fresh-faced appearance.

How does it work?

Excess skin around the eyes is removed, with incisions being made along the folds of your eyelids and leaving you with no visible scarring. The fat pads under your eyes are reduced to alleviate puffiness and since the incision is made inside the lower eyelid, there’s once again no scarring to be seen.

Rhinoplasty

Why opt for it?

Some people just aren’t happy with the way their nose looks, whether they were born with it or had it injured, whereas others have a deviated septum that’s causing them to experience breathing problems. Either way, Rhinoplasty is thought to have been around since Egyptian times, and since noses are our facial focal points, you might as well have one you like.

How does it work?

A surgeon may decide to perform an open or closed Rhinoplasty, based on your individual case. During a closed Rhinoplasty, the surgeon can work from inside the nose, requiring very few incisions and keeping any possible scarring to a bare minimum. More complicated procedures may require an open Rhinoplasty, which relies on incisions at the nostrils to lift the nose’s skin, so as to allow the surgeon to work on the cartilage and bone underneath. By reshaping those elements, the size, lengths and tip of your nose can be altered with no visible scarring to worry about. The nose surgery procedure takes about two hours, with the length and price, depending on what you’re hoping to achieve.

Male Chest Reduction

Why opt for it?

Enlarged breast tissue (Gynecomastia) is often coupled with embarrassment for men but it’s a condition that’s attributed to as much as 40% of the UK male population. Even bodybuilders can develop them when if they use anabolic steroids or have a hormone imbalance.

How does it work?

Gynecomastia is usually treated with minimally invasive Liposuction like MicroLipo or VASER Liposuction to remove fatty deposits, whereas enlarged glandular tissue is removed through an incision in the lower part of the nipples. MicroLipo relies on fat being gently sucked out through extremely slender cannulas while VASER procedures first use ultrasound to break down fat cells before using suction.

Liposuction

Why opt for it?

A stressful and demanding career can leave you tired and without time to exercise or eat healthily, which is when you run the risk of gaining a few extra pounds. On the other hand, you can find yourself with stubborn pockets of fat that you can’t shape despite exercising regularly and leading a healthy lifestyle.

How does it work?

Once again, MicroLipo can be used to contour the body here and since the incisions through which the cannulas are inserted are no bigger than 0.3mm, there’s no need for stiches and there’s no scarring either. VASER Liposuction can yield interesting results as during the suction process your surgeon can sculpt your tissue to give you a certain level of definition the highest of which is VASER Hi-Def and can leave you with a ripped physique. Surgical Liposuction can be used to remove larger amounts of fat but it’s worth noting that we do not offer this procedure as a weight loss treatment.

Otoplasty and Earlobe Reconstruction

Why opt for it?

Projecting ears are seldom on a person’s ‘most wanted features’ list and often lead to unwanted remarks. Seeing as one in twenty British people think they have ears that project too much, ear surgery is understandably a very popular option. And if you have a ripped or stretched earlobe then you might consider them unsightly and want to fix them for aesthetic and/or practical reasons.

How does it work?

Incisions are made at the back of and within your ear so as to keep any scarring from being visible. Excess skin is removed and the cartilage behind the ear is altered to pin back ears that stick out too much. If their shape or size is being changed, then the cartilage of the outer ear will need to be reshaped. As for  the earlobe, any excess skin is cut off and the remainder is stitched up in such a way as to look natural when healed.

Facelift

Why opt for it?

It can be frustrating when your life is on track, you feel young and confident but your face doesn’t reflect it. Board members, CEOs and high profile businessmen such as Mr Getty may want their looks to match their status and could opt for a ‘Forbes Facelift’ to lift the neck as well as the brow, recontour the jawline, maybe use a little bit of Liposuction and combine it with a blepharoplasty for ultimate results.

John Paul Getty, the world's first billionaire was known to have had a Facelift.
John Paul Getty, the world’s first billionaire was known to have had a Facelift.

How does it work?

Where your incisions are made will depend on the type of facelift you opt for, but typically they are made along the hairline and behind the ears. For Neck Lifts, the incisions are extended from the back of your ears to the lower part of your scalp. Your skin is lifted and the tissue beneath it repositioned before the excess is removed and the skin is redraped and secured.

Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck

Why opt for it?

Tummy Tucks get a lot of press and especially as being part of Mummy Makeover packages, but now is the time of the rise of Daddy Do-Overs! Mummies aren’t the only ones who want a flat tummy, and child rearing takes its toll on both parents, even if in different ways. Moreover, if you’ve gone through significant weight loss, then you might have unflattering leftover excess skin that you want to be rid off.

How does it work?

One incision is made just above the pubic mound and if full Abdominoplasty is required then one is made around the navel. Your loose abdominal muscles are pulled up and secured with sutures. The procedure is often combined with liposuction to remove any unwanted fat, after which the skin is replaced and the excess removed.
