The Problem

We all have lots of small glands just below the surface of the skin called sebaceous glands. These glands produce a natural oil called sebum, which helps to keep the skin smooth and supple. When too much sebum is produced it causes a build up of oil in the hair follicles which creates the ideal environment for a bacterium called propionibacterium acnes to grow. This can occur all over the body including the face, neck, back (sometimes referred to as ‘bacne’) and chest.

Specialist N-Lite Laser Acne Treatment

We understand how much acne can affect your life and especially your self-confidence. We have over thirty years of medical experience in treating a variety of skin problems.

Acne is most common in adolescents and teenagers but can appear for the first time in the mid-twenties or even later. Propionibacterium acnes causes the skin to appear red and inflamed. It can be very difficult to treat successfully with topical creams and gels or antibiotics, and can have devastating effects on confidence and self-esteem.

In severe cases cysts will develop beneath the surface of the skin, and if they rupture this can cause acne scarring.

Our leading UK dermatologists target root cause bacteria, the underlying factor behind problem acne, and create bespoke plans for all skin types.

Here at The Private Clinic we have a variety of treatments available for acne.

N-Lite Laser Treatment for Acne

Here at The Private Clinic, we aim to treat the root cause of the problem by targeting the bacteria that actually causes the infection. This non-invasive laser acne treatment is known as N-Lite and is suitable for all skin types.

The N-Lite laser treatment works in 3 ways: killing the bacteria, stimulating new collagen and reducing inflammation.

Before your first treatment you will need to have an initial consultation where you can discuss your problem areas with your practitioner, go through your medical history to make sure you are suitable for treatment and also look at your current skin care regime as they may suggest that you switch products to prep your skin ready for treatment.

On the day of procedure your skin will first be cleansed and then dried. Your practitioner may then draw on your face to grid out the areas to be treated. Your eyes will then be covered with black out glasses or goggles to protect you from the light of the laser. A hand piece will then be used in an up and down motion over the areas to be treated. Once all the areas have been treated with the laser your practitioner will apply appropriate skin care to your face which will include sun protection before running through your aftercare advice.

The N-lite laser treatment can be used to treat acne on the face, neck, back and chest and has been described as the most significant advancement in the treatment of acne in decades.

Chemical Peel or Enzyme Treatments for Acne

There are a variety of chemical peels and enzyme treatments available for acne prone skin including; DermaFrost, Blue Peel Radiance, Oxygen Rx treatment and if you have darker skin then a MandeliClear Peel may be suggested.

Generally all chemical peels are applied in the same way, your face will first be cleansed and the peel applied to entire face or area to be treated. The peel will then be left for a certain amount of time decided by your practitioner this is usually determined by your skin type and sensitivity. A neutralizer is then applied and then peel is then removed before a serum/sun protection is applied to the face.

It is best to come in and discuss your treatment options with our experienced skin practitioners. Chemical peels and enzyme treatments are great treatments to help reduce and control the redness and inflammation of acne whilst regulating your oil production.

LED Phototherapy for Acne

LED Phototherapy is a gentle and heat free treatment that works alongside other treatments to help reduce the appearance of acne. Blue light therapy is most commonly used for acne as it has powerful anti-bacterial properties that decongest and purify acne and problem skin and help to normalize oil production.

LED Phototherapy is usually performed alongside another treatment such as a skin peel so this is usually performed first. You will then have a mask placed over your face and neck which the LED light is produced from. You will be required to have the LED light exposed to your skin for around 10-20 minutes before the mask is removed and your practitioner will apply a SPF to your face before you leave.

The Results

The bacteria in the skin is targeted and destroyed, clearing the acne and leaving you with smooth, fresh, healthy looking skin. N-Lite also has a collagen replenishment application which helps reduce the risk of acne scars. The results seen by patients after N-Lite treatment have been so impressive we have even featured on UK TV programmes This Morning and Embarrassing Illnesses.

You should notice results after your first skin peel but in some cases your acne may appear worse straight after treatment before it gets better which is very common. A course of treatment is always recommended for the best results and a regular treatment plan put in place to ensure you get the best results.

The results of LED Phototherapy are best seen after 6-8 treatments. Your skin should appear healthier with a reduction in acne.

Downtime

There is no downtime associated with N-Lite laser treatment but you may experience redness and warmth to the skin after treatment which will calm down after a few hours.

Some peels can cause redness after treatment but this will calm down after a few hours. Depending on the strength of the peel you may notice some peeling or dryness in the following days after the treatment.

There is no downtime after LED Phototherapy however it is recommended that you use sun protection and avoid sunbeds, steam/sauna rooms and swimming for 12 hours after treatment.

N-Lite Acne treatment prices start from £250 for single treatments and £700 for a course of 3 treatments.

Chemical Peel and Enzyme Treatment prices start from £75. However price may vary depending on the number of treatments needed.

The treatment cost for LED Phototherapy is £25 added onto any facial treatment.

“I am so pleased that I went to the Private Clinic to ask for help with my acne. To be quite honest, I felt like it was my last chance where I could get help. I had a very bad problem with my acne – they were very severe. First, I had to use special products for my face to bring out all the acne and calm them down before starting more intense skin treatments. I was warned that I will get more acne when I first start using the products which was scaring me as I already had severe acne. When I first started using the products, I did get a lot more acne but they weren’t as bad as I thought. Finally, I underwent the clinic’s N-Lite acne skin treatment which I was so pleased with. It’s been a long time but I am so happy that I didn’t give up and carried on doing everything as I was told. I don’t know how to thank Lisa Scannell for what she did to me as she completely changed my life. I’ve become a lot more confident and I am so happy with the results!!” *

‘Firstly the assistance over the phone pre-booking was excellent, everything about the booking was clearly articulated and she even gave me her own advice on what she recommends with procedures to reduce the acne I have on my back. I went ahead and booked the appointment and upon arrival I met with the consultant’

London

“I want to say thank you to Tracey and Lillie at The Private Clinic in Bristol who have looked after me really well during my Acne skin treatment.

I contacted the clinic as a last resort. I had always had clear skin until I hit my thirties when all of a sudden I started suffering with severe acne which seemed to be getting worse and worse, and the treatments from the doctor weren’t having any effect.

I was sceptical at first, but decided I had nothing to lose, so booked the treatment. I also used the Jan Marini face wash in conjunction with the monthly treatments.

After two months my skin was a little better and I was feeling a bit despondent because I had expected more, but Tracey reassured me to stick with it. And I’m glad I did! After my third and final treatment, the results were amazing. Sometimes, it’s difficult to see, because you look at yourself in the mirror every day, but the before and after photographs were quite startling.

My skin is almost completely clear now and I am happy to leave the house without the layers of primer, cover up, foundation and powder that had become essential kit for me! My husband is very pleased as we can leave the house in a fraction of the time!

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this treatment, and this clinic, to anyone who is unhappy with their skin – I don’t think it overstates the fact to say it is life-changing. Thanks again.”  *
