What type of VASER is best for me?

We’ve all got areas of our body we don’t like; Queen-of-the-curves Kim Kardshian admitted she’s not a fan of her thighs, while Katy Perry once confessed that she wished she had a Kate Moss-esque frame (if that’s not a sign we’re too harsh on ourselves, we don’t know what is!).

Perhaps this is why so many of us are turning to cosmetic treatment in order to address areas that we simply can’t change ourselves. There was a 41% rise in liposuction procedures last year and, at The Private Clinic, we’ve seen a huge growth in the number of minimally-invasive forms of the procedure taking place with 1,200 performed last year alone.

One of the most common forms of these less invasive treatments is VASER Liposculpting; a series of different procedures all based around the same method of liposuction, creating different finishes for different areas. VASER is far more precise than standard liposuction, meaning the final result can be tailored to the patient’s needs, depending on what type of finish you want and how extreme the change is.

We explain the top forms of the procedure, their results, and where they can be used.

VASER Liposuction

VASER Liposuction is the basis of all VASER procedures. It uses advanced ultrasound to destroy fat prior to its removal, meaning only the fat itself is removed and no surrounding tissues are damaged.  As a result, you’re much less likely to bruise or scar, and the entire procedure is performed under local anaesthetic meaning significantly less risk than procedures performed under sedation. You can return home shortly after the procedure and get on with your daily life fairly speedily.

The results from VASER Lipo tend to be soft and natural, making it ideal for those looking to rid of stubborn areas where fat simply won’t shift. It is popularly used on difficult-to-tone regions of the body like the back of the arms, flanks (affectionately known as love handles), thighs, abdomen, and jaw line, though it can be used on a huge range of areas (see picture below). It has even been hailed as a particularly useful solution for gynecomastia (a condition more commonly referred to as ‘man boobs’) because of its precision and lack of invasion.

The more chiseled ‘brother’ of VASER Liposuction, VASER Hi-Def is a more advanced technique to sculpt and tone areas into an athletic appearance. The procedure removes both superficial and deep layers of fat around muscles to create a deeply toned result with intense definition. Like standard VASER it can be used on any part of the body, but we often find patients seek its results on areas with underlying muscle like the abdomen, chest, waist, back, buttocks crease, arms, flanks, and thighs.

Before and after VASER Hi-Def, performed by The Private Clinic’s Dr Dennis Wolf.

An intermediate between the two, VASER Mid-Def gives more precise and obvious toning than standard VASER Lipo, but without the intensity achieved in Hi-Def. It too works by removing selective deposits of fat from around specific muscle groups to create shape and definition, but with a more natural result than Hi-Def. It proves popular with those looking to achieve shape and tone on the abdomen, chest, buttocks crease, waist, hips, thighs, and arms, but without the chiseled look achieved by Hi-Def.

While VASER Mid-Def is a step down from VASER Hi-Def  in terms of muscle definition, VASER 4D could perhaps be considered a step up. It is a highly targeted body sculpting technique that not only takes pockets of fat away, but also adds them to areas to create fully highlighted and marked muscles. It proves especially popular with men seeking to achieve the ‘superman’ look in their chest and abs, and creates a naturally-athletic result that is highly toned and visibly defined.

As well as the torso, it can also be used on the upper arms, buttocks crease, back, and upper legs, but the intensity of the results means each patient needs to be assessed on a case-by-case basis to see which areas would help them achieve the look they desire.

Focused solely on the upper legs, VASER 360 tackles the entire circumference of the area in one treatment. The precise and less invasive nature of VASER means that the thighs, knees and buttock crease can all be treated at the same time, with less risk of dimples and irregularities in the skin than traditional liposuction.

It’s important to remember that the success of any VASER procedure is entirely dependent on the skills of your practitioner. While the procedure itself is highly safe and not particularly invasive, it can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Always research any doctor or clinic you work with; make sure they are reputable and ensure they are highly experienced.

Likewise, VASER procedures are not an alternative to a healthy lifestyle. Patients that the treatments will work on must be active and not looking for a ‘quick fix’. Providing you work hard, both in your research and in the pursuit of your health, VASER can be a life-changing decision that transforms your body for life. Attending consultations will help establish whether it is the correct way forward for you, so use them wisely to chat with your doctor and find the best method of VASER for what you want to achieve.
