February 4, 2019 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

The nose is the most central part of our face and as the most defining feature, it is no surprise that the popularity of nose job surgeries are rising to help people achieve their desired appearance.

A rhinoplasty is more commonly referred to as a nose job. It is a surgical reshaping of the nose that is performed under general anaesthetic. Rhinoplasties are usually carried out with the aim of enhancing the aesthetic appearance of the nose but it can also be used to correct a deviated septum and restore nasal functions.

Types of Rhinoplasty The Private Clinic Harley Street Specialise In

  • Narrow the bridge of the nose.
  • Reshape the tip of the nose (irregular nasal tip, nasal tip projection, large nose tip)
  • Widen or narrow the nostrils (wide nose)
  • Reshape the bridge of the nose (nasal hump)
  • Reshape the whole profile of the nose (crooked nose)
  • Remove bone and cartridge off the nose to reduce the size (big nose, long nose)
  • Help with breathing difficulties.
  • Correct a nose previously broken (commonly called a nasal fracture) from a sporting incident.
  • Correct a deviated septum (a deviated septum can be caused by a nose fracture)
  • Correct a cartilage and bone fracture due to an accident from sport
  • Ethnic Rhinoplasty
  • Correction of previous rhinoplasty surgery (Correctional Rhinoplasty, Rhinoplasty Revision)

10 Questions to help you find the best Rhinoplasty surgeon in the UK for you

August 14, 2018 by Steffanie Griffiths Leave a Comment

You want to feel confident you will be advised the best possible changes to your nasal profile, which are natural-looking and allow you to still look like you. You also want to have a comfortable experience with excellent care and aftercare at each stage of your journey. To ensure this, your choice of surgeon is of paramount importance.

But how do you make this overwhelming decision? We have put together 10 important questions to help find the best rhinoplasty surgeon for you.

  1. What are the surgeons’ credentials and experience?

As a minimum, your surgeon must be registered with the GMC, and fully insured to perform the procedure within the UK.

It is important to check your surgeon has extensive experience in the procedure. Find out how many years the surgeon has been performing rhinoplasty and how often they perform the surgery. Another useful indicator of the reputation of a rhinoplasty surgeon is their membership of distinguished organisations, such as BAAPS and BAPRAS.

  1. What is the surgeon or clinic’s rhinoplasty approach?

rhinoplasty before and after photos

Find out the kind of approach your surgeon or clinic takes to rhinoplasty. Does the clinic aim for subtle changes achieving natural-looking results? Is a tailored approach taken with each patient?

You may gauge this through reading the clinics website, reading patient reviews, and at your surgeon consultation.

  1. How specialised is the surgeon?

Find out if the surgeon is specialised in rhinoplasty or facial surgery, or has a specialist interest in these areas. Look for surgeons with specific certifications in such areas of practise.

  1. Are you pleased with before and after photos?

An invaluable way of determining the skill and ability of a rhinoplasty surgeon is to look through their surgical portfolio of patient results. Are results natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing? Although every patient’s nose is unique with different requirements, it can additionally be useful to see what has been achieved by patients with similar concerns to yourself.

Before and after photos may be accessed via the clinics website or may be available on RealSelf. Results from previous patients should also be revealed in your surgeon consultation.

  1. Is a minimum of one face-to-face consultation with a surgeon required?

All reputable surgeons and clinics should insist on a minimum of one face-to-face consultation pre-procedure.

Ensure that at least one of your consultations is with the rhinoplasty surgeon who will be conducting your operation, and that you do not only meet a patient advisor or practitioner. A surgeon will be able to perform a medical assessment, and provide a medical opinion of the best recommendations for you.

  1. What are the rhinoplasty options?

nose job before and after photo

Check the spectrum of nasal issues and deformities that the clinic is able to address. For example, does the clinic offer septoplasty (deviated septum correction)? After nasal assessment, in some cases, surgeons may advise septorhinoplasty. Performed to enhance nasal breathing, this is a combined procedure of both rhinoplasty and septoplasty.

  1. Are patient reviews and testimonials of a high standard?

Reading first-hand accounts of patients who have experienced rhinoplasty with that surgeon or clinic really is invaluable. This can give you a more realistic indication of the surgical outcome, bedside manner and patient care that you could expect.

  1. What is the aftercare available?

Find out how many follow up sessions are offered post procedure and if there is an emergency line you can contact. At The Private Clinic, for example, we provide as many free follow up sessions you desire after your procedure. Although, as a standard, we ask to see patients for their cast removal between 7-10 days post-op, and advise patients to see us for a follow up every couple of months in the first year.

Reading patient reviews can also be a good indicator of the clinic’s quality of patient care and aftercare.

  1. Is the clinic CQC registered?

Verify that the clinic is registered with the CQC – the Care Quality Commission. The public body regulates both social care and health service in England.

  1. Are you pleased with the consultation?

Your final choice of surgeon can only be made after a consultation(s). After your consultation, ask yourself the following:

  • Do you feel safe and confident regarding the surgeons ability?
  • Is the surgeon patient and accessible?
  • Did you achieve a good impression of the patient care and aftercare?
  • Did the surgeon assess and discuss your various nasal features, and what he advises in terms of each area, beyond your raised concerns?
  • Do you feel confident about the outcome that can be attained with the surgeon?

How Can I Get Natural-looking Rhinoplasty Results?

April 25, 2018 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

When it comes to cosmetic surgery it is a common misconception that you are instantly going to completely different. Although surgery can create a change in your appearance for those that know you well, it shouldn’t necessarily be noticeable for those who are meeting you for the first time.

Rhinoplasty or nose job procedures are always in the headlines and are one of the most commonly requested plastic surgery procedures. Recently Tyra Banks opened up about how she had a nose job at the start of her career which we were otherwise none the wiser about. So how do you achieve natural looking rhinoplasty?

© E News; https://www.eonline.com/uk/news/923657/tyra-banks-admits-she-got-a-nose-job-early-in-her-career

The perfect nose is not a set template and it will vary from patient to patient. A natural looking result relies on your nose matching the proportions of the other features on your face.

Although it is great to find photos of noses that you like, it is important to realise that although a nose may look great on one person, on another face it would look completely different and probably not as perfect that you once thought it was.

Consultation

A consultation is your first step to achieving a natural looking rhinoplasty result. This is your chance to meet your surgeon and discuss what you would like your end results to look like. Your surgeon will be able to do a detailed physical examination of the nose as well as analysing the other characteristics of the face to ensure that the results that you wish to achieve are harmonious with the rest of your face.

Before and After photos

Ask to take a look at before and after photos of previous nose job procedures that the surgeon has performed. The photos may not be freely available online due to protecting previous patient’s identity but they may have a portfolio for you to look at during your consultation. It will allow you to see the kind of results that they are able to achieve as well as making sure that they don’t follow a ‘one nose fits all’ policy procedure where you may notice a lot of the operated on noses looking the same.

Specialism

Plastic surgeons are often able to perform a wide range of procedures but if you are looking for the best and most natural results then  you should be asking questions such as ‘How many rhinoplasties have your performed’ and ‘How often do you perform nose job procedures?’.  It can take considerable experience to get natural results so choosing a surgeon that specialises in nasal surgery and performs it on a regular basis is advised.

Here at The Private Clinic we know that a rhinoplasty can cover many things and we often get questions from patients in their quest for a natural looking nose such as:

  • How to narrow the bridge of my nose?
  • Can you reshape the tip of my nose?
  • Is it possible to widen or narrow the nostrils?
  • I want to reshape the bridge of the nose?
  • How to reshape the whole profile of my nose.
  • I want to reduce the size of my nose?
  • Can I correct a nose previously broken from a sporting incident?

The answer to all of these is yes however it is always best to come in for a consultation to find out more.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

May 21, 2016 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

A rhinoplasty, or nose job, as it’s most commonly known, is starting to increase in popularity with celebrities and bloggers admitting to having had the procedure.

The nose is a feature that sits squarely in the centre of the face and if you are not happy with its appearance, it is the first thing you focus on when you look in the mirror, which can lead you to assume that others are doing the same.

But what actually is a rhinoplasty procedure?

A rhinoplasty or nose job is a surgical procedure used to change;

  • Nose size, in relation to your other facial features
  • Nose width, at the bridge
  • Nose profile, removing visible lumps or bumps
  • Nasal tip, improving a large or bulbous tip or fixing one that is drooping, or too upturned
  • Nostrils that are large, wide or upturned
  • Nasal asymmetry and deviation

The procedure itself will vary slightly depending if it’s an open or closed technique;

  • Open rhinoplasty; this involves a small incision at the base of the nose to lift the skin, allowing a direct view in sculpturing, correcting and re-supporting the tissues of the nose
  • Closed Rhinoplasty; this involves a small hidden incision within the nostrils and most likely a nasal speculum will be used to view the nasal structures within
Open vs Closed Surgery Incisions
Open vs Closed Surgery Incisions

Incisions are made on the nose during an open rhinoplasty, the skin is then lifted and the nasal structures exposed. Cartilage and bone can then be removed if there is a need to reduce a lump and small breaks are made along the sides of the nose which allows the surgeon to push the bones in and narrow the nose if required. The tip cartilages can then be narrowed and a cartilage graft can be placed for support, stitches are then placed to shape the tip and the skin is laid back in place and fine stitches are then used to close the incisions.

It is common to have bruising and swelling on your face after a nose operation especially bruising around the eyes.

You may have dressings inside each nostril for the first few hours after surgery which will cause you to be unable to breathe through your nose, but don’t worry! These are removed before you go home. The rest of your nose will be bandaged up with a splint to help support the nose after surgery. Although uncomfortable, it is important that you keep this on until told to remove to ensure your nose heals in the best way possible.

Improving the shape of your nose can have a dramatic impact on your whole face, but if you are considering a nose job, it’s very important to do your homework to give you the best chance of getting the results you dream of.

rhinoplasty-before-after-the-private-clinic-WEB

It is definitely worth noting that unfortunately, compared to other surgical procedures, nose jobs have a particularly high revision rate. It has been reported that 25% of people who have had a rhinoplasty then go on to seek a second operation and sometimes a third or more.

As one of the most technically challenging cosmetic procedures around, it is vital that you take your time to pick the most suitably qualified surgeon with the right credentials.

A great Plastic Surgeon doesn’t always mean they are a great rhinoplasty surgeon. Do as much research as you can specifically around rhinoplasty and those who specialise in the area.

When it comes to choosing a surgeon, do not focus on the price. An experienced surgeon who specialises in a procedure is likely to charge slightly more than one who may not. Your nose is a prominent feature on your face so this is not something you would want to cut corners on.

How much do Rhinoplasty and Septo-Rhinoplasty treatments cost?

June 19, 2015 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

With over 3,690 treatments performed in the UK, Rhinoplasty was us Brits’ sixth most popular cosmetic treatment last year. The procedure involves the surgical correction and reconstruction of the nose and has several different formats for different results. But what about the price?

As with any treatment, there’s not a straightforward answer. The cost of Rhinoplasty differs massively from clinic to clinic and this isn’t random. It’s usually directly linked to the skill of the person performing it and the reputation of the clinic it is taking place in. Instead of how much the procedure costs, at The Private Clinic we believe the question should be ‘How much is my Rhinoplasty worth…’. It’s only then that it becomes a more answerable question.

Before and after Rhinoplasty treatment by The Private Clinic's Mr. Davood Fallahdar.
Before and after Rhinoplasty treatment by The Private Clinic’s Mr. Davood Fallahdar.

When paying for any cosmetic treatment it’s important to remember what the cost is covering – the reason clinics vary so much in price often comes down to the level of expertise, the amount of protection for you, and the equipment used. The best clinics will only work with the best surgeons, and will likewise have the most robust facilities and certificates in place to protect your needs. On the other side of the scale, cosmetic tourism (which often entails cut-price surgery at destinations worldwide) is becoming an increasingly dangerous issue. A quick Google finds clinics in countries like the Czech Republic and Poland advertising full Rhinoplasty for around £4000 less than the average for UK clinics – this is for a reason. The UK has some of the strictest medical laws available, and some of the best medical expertise. Doctors and clinics must go through extensive training and have proper certification in place to prove it.  In most of the cheapest cosmetic hotspots abroad, that is not the case; you’ll very rarely meet a surgeon before treatment (which we believe completely compulsory!) and you’ll have no aftercare following your procedure, as well as no one to turn to if things go wrong. We previously wrote about staying safe when researching cosmetic surgery abroad, read the original article here.

On the other hand, just because something costs more doesn’t mean it is instantly better. Regardless of the price, your biggest task is always to research the surgeon you are working with, ensuring everything they claim is true and they are experienced in the procedure you’re undertaking. Research is always key and flashy marketing or seemingly impressive models should never be what persuades you; it should always be about the hard facts and the expert knowledge. We only work with some of the UK’s most elite surgeons, for example, to ensure our patients are kept safe and their results are realistic.

In terms of our prices, we believe every patient is individual so are never able to give a set price until we’ve met you and have analysed your face. For a Minor Rhinoplasty (tip correction) you’ll often look to pay around £3,000, while Full Rhinoplasty costs normally begin at around £5,200. It’s all about finding a surgeon who understands your needs and will work with you to make sure you get the best service (and best results) possible.

Watch a video of The Private Clinic’s Mr. Fallahdar with a Rhinoplasty patient:

Summary

There’s an old idiom that runs ‘pay cheap, pay twice‘. Never is this more true than with any form of cosmetic treatment. While cut-price offers and cheaper deals might seem appealing, you’re not just risking the best results – you’re also risking your health and, sometimes, even your life. Quite often the cost of a treatment can be directly proportional to the results and care you’ll be receiving. The best clinics have paid for the best medical team with years of experience, as well as specialist insurance and certificates to protect you. While an expensive treatment can seem frightening, the cost of reconstructive or corrective surgery is far greater and your safety is always priceless. Check your surgeon’s experience, certificates and background and, if you have any doubt, don’t let them perform the treatment. Your safety is worth far more than saving a couple of pounds here and there! Find out more about the Rhinoplasty treatments available here.
