Botox works by temporarily reducing the contractions of the
facial muscles that cause frown lines.
It is usually used on the upper third of the face, to tackle frown lines, forehead creases
and crows' feet around the eyes. Lines around the lips and corners of the mouth are also
treatable. Untreated areas of the face aren't affected, so you can still smile and frown,
but the skin on the treated areas won't wrinkle as much as usual.
How is Botox® injected?
Very small amount of Botox® are injected into the required areas using a tiny micro
needle. This acts by blocking the impulse from the nerve to the muscles, which are related
to the lines and wrinkles treated.
The muscles are then relaxed preventing contractions.
Following the treatment with Botox® the skin over the muscles remains smooth and even for
up to six months.
Treatment takes about 10-15 minutes, and you can resume normal activities immediately.
Does the injection hurt?
Because the needle is so fine and such small substance quantities are used the pain is
minimal. No sedation or local anaesthesia is required. You may experience some itching
over the treated area immediately after treatment.
Is Botox® dangerous?
Botox® injections have been used safely and effectively for over ten years to treat many
neurological disorders. Each year thousands of patients receive Botox® treatments for a
variety of conditions and it is quickly becoming a popular treatment for reversing the
visible sign of ageing.
It is injected in such small quantity that is not harmful. The most common side effects
are temporary and localised bruising, slight redness of the skin and occasionally slight
swelling at the injection site. These side effects correct themselves as the Botox wears
off.

How long will it last?
The improvement you will achieve from the procedure will last anywhere up to 6 months. You
will notice a gradual fading of its effect at which point, you may return for a new
treatment.
The early clinical studies indicate that the duration of the treatments benefits is
increased over time so that you should require injections less frequently in the future.
How will I look
afterwards?
The results are amazing. It may take two to three days to see an improvement and up to one
week to see the overall effects. Then the skin will appear smooth and showing a youthful
glowing appearance. You will get back to smiling with confidence.
