Breast Reduction Procedures at The Private Clinic

The Problem

Large breasts can be a cause of physical and emotional distress – a lot of women aren’t able to wear fashionable clothing and find it difficult to take part in active sports. Anyone with large breasts will know that it can be hard to feel confident in swimwear, or anything but very supportive underwear. Psychological distress may also be the result of unwanted attention or harassment – or simply because you aren’t happy with how you feel in yourself.

For  Female breast reduction we perform two procedures: minimally-invasive MicroLipo Breast Reduction and Mammoplasty (surgical breast reduction) procedure. Your suitability for each Breast Reduction procedure can be determined during your consultation, based on your needs and your body.

Your Breast Reduction Options

Breast reduction procedures are performed to reduce the size, weight and volume of your breasts, while enhancing their shape and overall aesthetic appearance. It is quite common for women to have a Mastopexy or breast uplift, procedure in conjunction with the reduction procedure.

You might consider a breast reduction due to the physical discomfort you may be suffering from having large breasts. Common physical problems associated with large breasts are:

  • backache and neck pain
  • grooves on the shoulders from bra straps
  • an inability to take part in sports
  • poor posture
  • excessive sweating, rashes and skin infections under the breasts

At The Private Clinic, we offer two different procedures for Breast Reduction, depending on your needs and age.

Microcannular Liposuction Breast Reduction is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anaesthetic – but the treatment is only suitable for those who are undergoing, or have undergone, the menopause. The procedure consists of removing excess fat from the chest area using fine microcannulas, which have a diameter of less than 3mm. There is no interference with the nipple areas of your breasts, and the procedure involves no cuts or stitches, and hardly any scarring. Recovery time is also minimal.

Microcannular liposuction, commonly known as MicroLipo, will make your breasts smaller, and hence, considerably lighter and slightly lifted. Your breasts will look the same as they did before the surgery, but will be up to 50% smaller.

MicroLipo Breast Reduction is suitable for women post-menopause who are generally happy with your breast shape and nipple positioning, but want to just reduce the size and weight of the breasts.

Ideal candidates are those of you who have a large proportion of fat, which is why it is not ideal for younger candidates who usually have more glandular tissue. Your expectations must also be realistic.

If you are happy with the shape of your breasts and feel that all you need is a reduction in size and weight to alleviate pain in your neck or back, Microcannula Liposuction can give a reduction in size of up to 50%.

If your breasts appear to sag or droop significantly, giving the “empty” breast appearance, they will not be improved by liposuction due to the lack of fat tissue. Cosmetic improvement of “empty” breasts usually requires excision of skin, as well as Breast Implants or a Breast Uplift.

Surgical Breast Reduction, or Mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthetic. Fat, glandular tissue and skin are removed from your breasts, which are then reshaped and the nipples re-positioned. It is therefore suitable for a wide range of candidates, regardless of age. A mammoplasty is a more invasive procedure and usually requires a few nights stay in a hospital, as well as a resting period between 2 and 6 weeks following surgery.

The biggest advantage of a mammoplasty over a liposuction procedur  is that your surgeon is able to completely change the shape of your breasts, lifting them considerably more than MicroLipo. Your nipples can also be re-positioned in proportion to your new breast size.

There are several techniques your surgeon might use, depending on the size of your breasts and the desired results. Read more about surgical breast reduction, or mammoplasty.

Unlike MicroLipo, surgical Mammoplasty is also suited to those whose breasts contain more glandular tissue than fat. If you have sagging or empty breasts, or are unhappy about the shape of your breasts or the positioning of your nipples, a Mammoplasty and Mastopexy procedure may be the best way forward. Other patients may require both a reduction and augmentation using implants.

It is not uncommon for men to have an enlarged chest area, known as gynaecomastia. Read more information about male chest reduction.

At the Private Clinic we offer a range of breast enhanement treatments meaning you can be confident that, during your consultation, we will provide honest advice on which procedure is most suitable to your needs and desired results.
