FAQs

What is the difference between Smart Lipo / Laser Lipo and Vaser Lipo?

Smart Lipo or Laser Lipo is a different type of liposuction to vaser liposuction.

Although they are both used to remove stubborn areas of fat and to contour the body shape they both use different techniques. Smart liposuction which is also referred to as laser liposuction or laser lipolysis uses laser technology but vaser liposuction uses ultrasound technology to target the fat.

Smart lipo is newer than vaser liposuction but we believe that Vaser Liposuction is still the most advanced and effective form of liposuction which is why this is the only type that The Private Clinic offer in our clinics.

Vaser Liposuction uses ultrasonic technology which allows for specific areas of fat to be treated (Vaser liposelection). Due to this, the surrounding body tissues are then left untouched which results in far less bruising and swelling and a shorter recovery time.

How much does VASER Liposuction cost?

The cost of a Vaser Liposuction procedure will depend on the number of areas being treated. As a guide, costs for vaser liposuction start from £3,990.

Everyone’s Vaser Lipo procedure is different and put together as a personalised treatment recommendation for the patient. Your individual treatment plan will be discussed at your consultation once your surgeon has seen you and knows what you wish to achieve from the procedure.

Following your consultation, your patient coordinator will provide you with a detailed quote for your procedure and will be able to share information about our 0% Finance that is available too.

Book a consultation today to get a cost for your vaser liposuction treatment.

  • Neck / Chin
  • Upper Arms
  • Upper Back / Lower Back
  • Male Chest

What is Vaser Liposuction?

Vaser Lipo is a specialised and minimally invasive fat removal and body contouring procedure. In contrast to traditional liposuction, Vaser Lipo affords patients the sculpting experience no amount of exercise or dieting can achieve by itself with ultimate precision and minimal downtime.

VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) uses the most advanced ultrasound technology to break down fat cells, which are then removed from your body through a suction process. Vaser Lipo (also referred to as Vaser liposelection or Ultrasound Liposuction) is a suitable procedure for both men and women.

The ultrasound energy only targets fat cells, leaving surrounding tissues undamaged, and involves minimal downtime. Our experience tells us that VASER Lipo is the most effective minimally invasive method of removing unwanted fat from your body, creating a defined and sculpted area.

Over 11,000 Vaser Liposuction treatments have been performed at The Private Clinic by our team of expert Vaser Doctors. Our excellent reputation for patient safety and satisfaction, honest advice and outstanding care means your journey with The Private Clinic will be an exciting experience in a newfound shape.

How is Vaser Liposuction different from traditional liposuction?

Vaser Lipo vs Traditional Liposuction

Vaser Liposuction and Traditional Liposuction both have the same goal, to remove fat from the body. But both methods are different and knowing which one is going to be best for you will depend on your own personal circumstances and the desired goal you have in mind.

In most cases, traditional liposuction is performed under general anaesthetic whilst Vaser liposuction is performed under local anaesthetic with sedation.

Traditional liposuction is ideal if you have a larger amount of fat that you wish to remove as Vaser lipo does have a limit on the amount of fat that can removed in a single session. Traditional liposuction does have a limit too but it is significantly bigger.

The recovery time following Vaser liposuction is often significantly shorter than traditional liposuction’s recovery as it is a minimally invasive procedure and the technique used results in less bleeding, pain, and bruising. Vaser Liposuction uses high-frequency ultrasonic waves to break up and liquefy the targeted fat without damaging the surrounding area.

Vaser liposuction is good for sculpting the body and is very accurate in removing fat from targeted muscle groups and being able to give improved definition around muscles.

Vaser liposuction is also known to be more effective on men as their body tissues are naturally fibrous which can be difficult to target with traditional liposuction. Certain areas on the female body such as hips and bra fat are fibrous as well and would be better treated with vaser liposuction than traditional liposuction.

If you have a good surgeon with the right experience and skills then you can get great results from both treatments. Finding a surgeon you can trust is more important than which technique is being used so be sure to do your research.

We perform over 1,300 liposuction and body sculpting procedures each year and have some of the UK’s most experienced Vaser liposuction surgeons and doctors on our team. Contact us today to book a consultation and find out more.

Is Vaser Liposuction the best type of liposuction?

Vaser liposuction is one of many types of liposuction treatments that all use various devices and techniques. Other types of liposuction include traditional liposuction, laser liposuction, MPX laser and body jet liposuction to name a few. Whether Vaser Liposuction is the best type of liposuction for you is personal preference, there is no clinical evidence to prove that one type is better or safer than the other. Most modern forms of liposuction are considered to be equally safe and effective when performed by an expert surgeon or doctor.

Vaser lipo, however, should not be confused with Vaser Mid or Hi def which are only a change of technique rather than tools. During a Vaser Mid Def and Hi Def procedure, multiple techniques are used for sculpting around the muscles to give a more athletic and toned appearance. These procedures require a lot more skill, expertise and specialised training making them very different from other types of liposuction. It is important to remember that not everyone trained in Vaser Liposuction is trained in Vaser Hi or Mid-Def.

Getting the best liposuction results comes down to the skill and experience of the surgeon and the aftercare carried out by both the clinic and the patient. It is also important for the patient to be well-informed and realistic about what results they can expect from the treatment.

Contact us to find out more.

Can multiple areas be treated at once with Vaser Liposuction?

It is possible to treat multiple areas during one Vaser Liposuction procedure however it is recommend that no more than 3 litres worth of fat is removed within one session.

Am I suitable for Vaser Liposuction?

The treatment is best suited towards patients with stubborn, distinct areas of fat around the body that just won’t budge, no matter how much exercise or dieting is undertaken.

When you lose weight, is it usually most noticeable on your face and upper body, leaving behind more resistant areas, such as the hips, buttocks, thighs and abdomen.

Fat distribution can be incredibly uneven, leaving some areas more out of proportion than others. Diet and exercise can only do so much for most people. Vaser Lipo can help adults of all ages and most parts of the body affected by stubborn body fat.

Vaser Liposuction is a highly successful area-specific fat reduction treatment. It improves the balance of distribution of fatty tissue around your body, for a more aesthetically pleasing profile.

Although liposuction can often provide very substantial improvements, it is not a weight-loss technique or a solution for obesity. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite nor will it help those who have excessive or bulging areas of skin, for which we would recommend an abdominoplasty treatment. We may ask you for your height and weight to calculate your BMI to ensure that you are within the ranges suitable for minimally invasive liposuction.

Ideally, any treatment should be viewed as a compliment to regular exercise and a good diet and not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle.

Who will perform Vaser Liposuction?

The Private Clinic has a team of expert VASER lipo Doctors and surgeons. Our team will work with you to ensure you feel well-informed and comfortable before, during and after the procedure.

You will receive as many post-operative care and appointments with your surgeon, doctor and nursing team as you require.

The Private Clinic’s Doctors have performed over 11,000 VASER Liposuction treatments to date, more than any other clinic in Europe.

To book an appointment with our specialist vaser lipo team click here.

How should I prepare for Vaser Liposuction?

Our surgeons and doctors at The Private Clinic will discuss with you how to prepare for your vaser liposuction treatment including anything you should be avoiding.

It is always recommended that you are at your ideal weight before liposuction as any excess gain or loss will affect your results.

We advise that you avoid taking any anti-inflammatory painkillers such as aspirin and ibuprofen for 3 weeks before your procedure. We also highly recommend that you stop smoking a month before your vaser liposuction procedure. Smoking can really impact your healing process as it cuts down blood flow to the skin causing circulation problems.

There will be some downtime after your Vaser Liposuction procedure so we also recommend that you prepare your home for this and ensure you have entertainment available as well as someone who will be able to assist you with things like cooking, cleaning and childcare for a short time.

You will not be able to drive after your procedure so you will also need to arrange for someone to be able to take you to and from the clinic.

Overall you should make sure that you are good health, eating well, getting enough sleep and have stopped taking any medication advised by your vaser surgeon or doctor.

What happens during a Vaser Liposuction procedure?

Your surgeon will first make special anatomic marks on the areas being treated whilst you are standing.

You will then lie down on the bed and local anaesthetic will be injected into the areas being treated and sedation will be applied if required.

Small micro-incisions will then be made close to the areas that are being treated and tumescent fluid will be injected in to expand the tissue layer.

A small probe is then inserted that emits ultrasonic energy which vibrates and selectively breaks apart the fatty tissue on contact.

A small cannula is then used in a back-and-forth motion which removes the fat with a gentle suction device.

Once complete, the incisions are closed, bandages are applied and a compression garment is placed on.

After your Vaser lipo procedure, you will be able to leave the clinic and return home within a few hours as long as you have someone to escort you home.

Does Vaser Liposuction hurt?

Will I feel anything during Vaser Liposuction?

No pain should be felt during a vaser liposuction procedure but you may feel the surgeon working on the areas being treated which is sometimes a little uncomfortable. Some patients mention hearing a high-pitched sound which is actually the ultrasonic vibrations resonating in your ear drums – this is completely normal and not harmful.

Our expert surgeons, doctors and nursing team at The Private Clinic will ensure that feel comfortable throughout the procedure.  With over 40 years of experience in Cosmetic Medical Excellence, you are in safe hands.

How long does a Vaser Lipo procedure take?

This will depend on the number and size of areas to be treated, but generally, the VASER Lipo procedure lasts between 1 and 2 hours.

Do I need to be put to sleep for Vaser Liposuction?

Vaser Liposuction is usually performed under Local Anaesthetic with the option of sedatives too. The local anaesthetic will stop you from feeling any pain during the procedure and the sedatives can help you feel more relaxed if you are feeling worried or anxious about the procedure.

Can I have vaser liposuction to remove fat in my face?

Vaser Liposuction is not performed on the facial areas apart from the chin and neck. The best way to treat fat deposits under the eye for example is a blepharoplasty procedure.

How much fat can be removed with Vaser Liposuction?

Vaser Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure and is instead designed to contour and shape the body and remove stubborn areas of fat.

The amount of fat removed varies between procedures but no more than 4% of your body weight (about 3 litres) can be removed.

If more fat removal is needed then a second procedure would be required.

Does Vaser Liposuction get rid of cellulite?

Vaser Liposuction can improve the appearance of cellulite however it is not a treatment for cellulite so this cannot be guaranteed.

We offer some great treatments to help reduce the appearance of cellulite, find out more here.

Will Vaser Liposuction help me lose weight?

Vaser Liposuction is not a solution for weight loss and should not be seen as such.

Vaser Liposuction is designed to remove stubborn areas of fat that no amount of exercise and healthy eating can to reduce.

To maintain the results of surgery you must continue to lead a healthy lifestyle otherwise the weight will return to other areas of the body.

How do I reshape my bottom with Vaser Liposuction?

It is easy to create a peachy bottom shape with Vaser Liposuction. The fat is removed in a way that is able to sculpt the body which can enhance your bum enough without the need for any additional fat transfer or implants.

Our vaser surgeons and doctors at The Private Clinic specialise in creating smooth and sculpted results. See our before and after photos to see previous results.

Can Vaser Liposuction sculpt my body?

Vaser Liposuction is a sculpting procedure that removes stubborn fat deposits from problematic areas which as a result reveals the smooth and natural contours of your own body.

If more defined contouring is required then Vaser Mid-Def, Vaser Hi-Def or Vaser 4D may be recommended which are more specialised techniques for body contouring. The Private Clinic specialises in all forms of Vaser liposuction.

Will Vaser Liposuction get rid of sagging skin?

Will I Have Tighter Skin After Vaser Liposuction?

Good skin elasticity is important for successful fat removal surgery. Vaser Liposuction only removes fat from the body, not skin so if you have excess sagging skin then you may be more suited to an alternative surgical procedure such as an arm lift, tummy tuck, thigh lift etc.

Predicting the degree of skin tightening after Vaser liposuction can be very difficult, although in the majority of cases, your skin will shrink around your new smaller shape over time.

Our expert vaser surgeons and doctors will be able to assess your skin laxity before you decide to go ahead with the procedure to give a realistic expectation of what you can expect from the procedure. Get in touch to find out more.

What happens if I gain weight after VASER Liposuction?

Although it is highly recommended to try and maintain your weight after your treatment, it is possible to gain up to 3-4 kilos before you notice any obvious change in the treated area.

With VASER Lipo, superficial fat and fat cells are removed, and as the body doesn’t readily make new fat cells past puberty, the results are more or less permanent. Any mild weight fluctuations are therefore not noticed as the extra fat is either immediately processed or evenly distributed around your body.

We recommend that you continue to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle to maximise the results of your procedure.

Are there any side effects of VASER Liposuction?

VASER Liposuction is a very popular body sculpting procedure and can deliver exemplary results. However, the skills and expertise of your treating Doctor are what count in the success and results of the procedure, as well as your chances of any complications.

As with any procedure, Vaser Liposuction does have risks and side effects  these include; swelling, bruising, mild pain, haematoma, seroma, infection, fluid leaking,  hypertrophic scarring, change in sensitivity, contour irregularities, residual fat, skin discolouration,  itchiness/irritation and DVT.

Your vaser doctor will go through a full list of side effects and complications from vaser liposuction at your consultation. At The Private Clinic we aim for our patients to be fully informed about all parts of their procedure.

How soon will I see the results?

Many patients will see results straight away. However, the appearance of the treated areas will show the most improvement about 5-6 weeks post procedure and they will continue to improve for up to six months as your skin tightens with new collagen growth.

How long will the results last?

If you experience weight gain, become pregnant or have any other drastic body changes following your Vaser liposuction procedure then it is possible that it will affect your vaser lipo results.

The results of vaser liposuction can be considered permanent in some cases as once fat cells have been removed from one area then it is unlikely that they will be able to form again in the same place. So if you were to gain weight for example, then the fat would be stored in other parts of the body. It is worth noting that not all the fat cells from the treated areas are removed so it is still possible for fat to form.

Our surgeons at The Private Clinic recommend that all our vaser lipo patients follow a healthy diet and exercise plan to maintain their results post-procedure.

Vaser should not be seen as a solution to obesity.  Vaser is a solution for problem areas of fatty tissue deposits and places where you want to contour your body into a more toned shape. You can still put the weight back on, so you need a healthy diet and exercise to maintain the results. If you do this, there’s no reason why the results shouldn’t be permanent.

How many Vaser Liposuction procedures will I need?

In the majority of cases, Vaser Liposuction treatment is performed over one session. In larger cases, your treatment may be split over multiple sessions but this will be discussed at your consultation.

Why do wounds leak after Vaser Liposuction?

It is normal to experience leaking from your wounds for the first 24-48 hours. It is good for recovery as leaking will reduce swelling as your body is not holding this extra fluid. We recommend that you change your bandages regularly during this time, sleep on old sheets and wear loose and dark clothing to avoid any stains whilst you are out and about.

We are available 24/7 to answer any questions you may have. You will be provided with comprehensive information before and after your procedure on what to expect during your recovery period and will be available at all times should you have any concerns.

When can my bandages be removed after Vaser Liposuction?

Your bandages will need to be changed regularly where required for the first 2-3 days. After this time they should only need to be changed once a day.

Leakage from the wounds is common after liposuction and you should aim to change your bandages once they have become dirty to keep the wound area clean.

If you require help or have any questions about your bandages then please don’t hesitate to contact your surgeon or our nursing team who will be available to help you 24/7.

How long do I need to wear the compression garment for after Vaser Liposuction?

For any treatment under the chin the garment is worn for 24 hours a day for 3 day and then nightly for 3 weeks.

For other areas such as abdomen, chest, flanks, knees, inner/outer the surgical compression garment should be kept on at all times for 3 weeks and then after this time the garment should be worn during the day (for at least 6 hours) for another 3 weeks.

Will I need to wear drains after Vaser Liposuction?

A surgical drain is a tube used to remove pus, blood or other fluids from a wound. Patients who have had significant fat removal usually from their abdomen or back may require drains to be inserted. These will remain in place for up to 5 days before being removed by the surgeon or their nursing team in clinic.

How long does swelling last for after Vaser Liposuction?

Swelling and bruising usually resolve after 6 weeks.

To help speed up recovery, we usually suggest a course of MLD Massages after your treatment. At our clinics in London Harley Street and Manchester we offer Body Ballancer® treatment which is a compression therapy treatment which can really help with post-liposuction recovery.

Will I have bruising after Vaser Liposuction?

You should expect bruising and swelling of the tissues in the area that has been treated but the amount of bruising will depend on your own body’s reaction to the procedure as well as size of the area treated.

What is the scarring like after Vaser Liposuction?

You will have small puncture wounds at the sites of the areas being treated. There will be more than one incision as the cannula is inserted from more than one point on the body but these tend to heal well leaving a small undetectable mark on the skin.

How long do I need to take off work for Vaser Liposuction?

The time recommended to take off work will depend on the number of areas treated and the type of job that you do. Most patients should be able to return to normal desk-type work within 1 to 3 days after vaser liposuction, but some prefer to take a week off to allow for the swelling and drainage to reduce.

What is my downtime like after vaser liposuction?

We usually advise two to three weeks of general recovery for Vaser Liposuction. Many patients are able to return to their daily activities the day after the treatment or as soon as they feel fit to do so. We recommend that you keep active and go for a few walks in the first few days after the procedure as this will assist drainage of fluid. Strenuous activity involving the area that has been treated should be avoided for about a month as your body continues to heal.

When can I exercise after Vaser Liposuction?

You can get back to mild exercise such as jogging after 14 days post-procedure if you have not had treatment in the areas that you exercising (i.e. legs)

Moderate exercise such as running can be resumed after 28 days but we recommend that you slowly build up to this and don’t overdo it too soon.

Vigorous activities such as gym workouts and contact sports should be avoided for 6 weeks.

When can I drive after Vaser liposuction?

You will not be able to drive straight away after vaser liposuction due to the local anaesthetic and sedation used during the procedure. Overall, most patients are able to drive after 24-48 hours but they should only do so if they are confident that they can make an emergency stop and have full mobility.

Please note that your insurance may be invalid if you drive too soon after your procedure.

When can I fly after Vaser Liposuction?

You can fly after about 7-10 days providing you keep well hydrated with only water and keep active on the flight to avoid deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Why do I need Manual Lymphatic Drainage after Vaser Liposuction?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) will help to accelerate the healing process and your recovery time by reducing any swelling or bruising, detoxifying the body, promoting skin elasticity, eliminating waste products and assisting the lymphatic system to perform at optimum levels which will get you back on track swiftly and painlessly.

You will usually have a minimum course of 5 daily treatments that last an hour each but more sessions may be recommended for abdominal, Mid-def and Hi-Def vaser liposuction.

At our clinics in London Harley Street and Manchester, we offer Body Ballancer® treatment which is a compression therapy treatment based on Manual Lymphatic Drainage.

Ask us about our post-liposuction treatment options.

What is VASER Hi-Def?

Vaser Hi-Def or Assisted High Definition LipoSculpture is a more advanced body sculpting technique that is used to create the appearance of an athletic body.

It is performed in a similar way to Vaser Liposuction but the technique differs slightly and involves your vaser doctor removing both the superficial and deep fat that surrounds the muscle groups to help enhance the visibility of underlying toning and musculature.

It is a very popular procedure for men and is commonly performed on the chest, waist, abdomen, buttocks, arms and thighs.

The Private Clinic is one of the very few UK clinics to provide surgeons and doctors certified in VASER Hi-Def.

Find out about VASER Hi-Definition here.

What is VASER Mid-Def?

VASER Mid-Def is The Private Clinic’s own, unique VASER Liposculpture technique that is only performed at our clinics. The specialised technique was put together by our experienced vaser doctors and is ideal for the patient who wishes to achieve a sculpted athletic look but not as extreme as vaser hi-def but more defined than standard vaser lipo.

The technique is similar to vaser liposuction but it involves the vaser doctor to be more selective and artistic with their fat removal process. The results will give the patient a slight definition with some shadowing but with a softer finish when compared to the results from VASER Hi-Def.

Find out about VASER Mid Definition here.

What is VASER 4D?

VASER 4D is a specialised and advanced form of Vaser Liposuction that we offer at The Private Clinic. Our specialised vaser doctors use this state-of-the-art technique to achieve impressive definition, whilst allowing the natural movement of muscle groups.  The technique involves carefully removing areas of stubborn fat, sculpting the body and in some cases injecting fat into areas to increase volume and definition (also known as Fat Transfer).

Is VASER Lipo worth it?

For those serious about sculpting their figure and committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, VASER Lipo is second to none in terms of its achievable precision and results. Our surgeons and doctors are experts of VASER Lipo which is demonstrated in their skills and techniques.

Less invasive than traditional liposuction and offering minimum downtime, VASER Lipo gives a body sculpting experience that may be very difficult to achieve from diet and exercise alone and can be used on stubborn areas of fat of the body including the abdomen, thighs and upper arms.

However, it is important to remember that VASER Lipo is not a weight loss solution and is therefore not appropriate for those looking for a quick alternative to a healthy lifestyle.

At The Private Clinic, our Doctors look closely at your body shape to ensure you are a good candidate and that the results will be worth it for you.

I am a size 8/10 and am considering vaser liposuction, is it worth it?

The best vaser liposuction patients do not need to lose any additional weight essentially but instead have troublesome areas of stubborn fat which they wish to remove.

We recommend that all patients are as close to their ideal weight and body shape as possible so that our surgeons can contour your body in the best way to suit your frame.

If you are unsure of your suitability for vaser liposuction then we recommend that you come in for a consultation where you will be able to discuss your concerns and our expert doctors and surgeons will help you to decide if the treatment is right for you.
