Varicose Veins Clinic in Bournemouth

Varicose veins can be unsightly, but also a painful condition that affects many people.

Fortunately, there are various effective treatment options available to help patients regain their confidence to show off their legs whilst also alleviating any discomfort.

Whilst The Private Clinic has been holding consultations in Bournemouth for many years, we would like to introduce our new premises at River Aesthetics Bournemouth clinic where Consultant Surgeon, Mr Dynesh Rittoo will be holding consultations for anyone who is concerned about their leg veins.

What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins present themselves as enlarged, twisted, and often swollen veins. They most commonly appear in the legs.

Varicose veins occur when the one-way valves in the veins become weak or damaged. This causes blood to flow backwards and pool in the veins. The pooling of blood therefore leads to the typical bulging, bluish appearance of varicose veins.

Not just a cosmetic issue, varicose veins can also cause symptoms like pain, aching, heaviness, and itching in the affected area.

What causes Varicose Veins?

There are some factors which can increase your risk of developing varicose veins which includes:

  • Genetics – Having a family history of varicose veins can increase your risk of developing them.
  • Gender – Women are more likely to develop varicose veins, possibly due to hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause.
  • Age – The risk of varicose veins increases with age, as the veins lose elasticity and the valves weaken.
  • Prolonged standing or sitting – A sedentary lifestyle and prolonged standing can impact effective blood circulation, contributing to the development of varicose veins.
  • Weight Gain – Excess weight puts added pressure on the leg veins, increasing the risk of vein damage.

EVLA

Endovenous Laser Ablation, also known as EVLA is a laser varicose vein treatment that destroys damaged veins from the inside. This is a great treatment for effectively treating the source of your varicose veins. Rated as a Gold Standard treatment by The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) this is one of our most popular treatments in our clinics. Find out more.

RFA

Radiofrequency Ablation, similar EVLA, this treatment instead uses radiofrequency thermal heat energy to shrink and close off the affected varicose veins. NICE guidelines recommended the treatment as an effective low-risk method to treat varicose veins. Find out more.

Foam Sclerotherapy

Foam Sclerotherapy involves injecting the affected veins with a foam sclerosing solution. This solution instantly coats the vein walls in a sticky substance, which pushes out blood from the channel whilst inflaming the vein walls. This causes the vein channel to close up completely before the vein itself shrivels away and is naturally absorbed by the body over time. Find out more.

VenaSeal

VenaSeal has revolutionised varicose vein treatment by giving patients the ability to treat their veins quickly and effectively with minimal bruising and a faster recovery. The treatment uses advanced medical-grade glue to seal the vein. The treated vein then shrinks and breaks down over time. Find out more.

Phlebectomy

A phlebectomy, also known as ambulatory phlebectomy is best performed on bulging veins that appear on the surface of the skin. The microsurgery procedure involves removing the bulging veins via a very fine phlebectomy hook. No stitches are required due to the tiny incision size and the wound will heal quickly by itself. Find out more here.

Thread Vein Treatment

We can also provide thread vein treatment for leg veins found on the leg which includes Microsclerotherapy. Find out more here.
