Emsella pre and post pregnancy

WOMENS WELLNESS

Pregnancy and childbirth can cause a lot of changes on your body including changes in body shape, hair and skin. Everyone is different but a lot of women do find they may experience incontinence or urinary leakage either during pregnancy or after childbirth.
Urinary leakage during pregnancy is often caused by the weight of the baby pressing on the bladder which can put pressure on the pelvic floor muscles which can result in the symptoms of stress incontinence.
Childbirth can also affect the pelvic floor muscles, especially with vaginal birth as this can put a strain on the pelvic floor and weaken the muscles. This can make it difficult to control your bladder and it is estimates that half of women can experience changes in continence following childbirth which is known as post-natal stress incontinence.

What is post-natal stress incontinence?

Post-natal stress incontinence is very common with women following pregnancy and childbirth. It occurs by stress being put on the pelvic floor muscles usually during vaginal childbirth. Everyday occurrences such as sneezing, laughing or coughing can cause leakage and even some forms of exercise or heavy lifting.
In most cases, post-natal stress incontinence will rectify itself in the months following childbirth as the pelvic floor muscles tighten up again. Pelvic floor exercise such as kegels are recommended after childbirth but the process of strengthening the pelvic floor again can feel like a long process.
Post-natal stress incontinence can be effectively treated with our Emsella treatment which can be a great relief to many women that are suffering.

How does Emsella treat post-natal stress incontinence?

Emsella treatment is a non-surgical, quick and painless treatment that can effectively reduce and treat the symptoms of post-natal stress incontinence.
The treatment uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology (HIFEM) which stimulates the pelvic floor muscles. The muscle contractions work to repair and tighten the pelvic floor to help patients regain bladder control.
Traditional pelvic floor exercises or kegels involves tensing and releases the pelvic floor muscles to strengthen them. One session of Emsella treatment can bring thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contraction which is the equivalent of doing 11000 kegel exercises.

When can Emsella treatment be used post pregnancy?

We recommend allowing at least 3 months before starting Emsella treatment following childbirth via C-Section and to allow 10 weeks post natural birth. However this will depending on the patients case and how quickly they heal.

Can I have Emsella treatment before pregnancy?

Emsella is a great prevention treatment for women who are considering starting a family. Having a strong pelvic floor is recommended to help withstand the extra weight and pressure of pregnancy. A stronger core is said to help with a faster delivery too.

Can I have Emsella treatment whilst pregnant?

Unfortunately, Emsella treatment is not suitable for patients who are currently pregnant. During pregnancy you will be recommended to practice regular pelvic floor exercises to help strengthen your pelvic floor muscles during pregnancy, but this must be done in the traditional way and not via Emsella treatment.
