Male Chest Reduction

We offer three treatments to reduce excess fat on the male chest: VASER Liposuction, MicroLipo and Surgical Liposuction. The Private Clinic’s doctors have extensive experience in all forms of liposuction treatments, and the team perform close to 2000 VASER Lipo treatments each year (more than any other clinic in Europe). Over 35% of our liposuction patients are male, with the chest one of the most common problem areas.

The Problem

Gynecomastia – more commonly known as man boobs – affects around 15% of adult men in the UK and is caused when excess fat develops in a man’s breast area. This fat can be very hard to shift, even if a weight loss plan has worked for the rest of the body, and the resulting ‘man boobs’ can cause embarrassment and can undermine confidence. The good news is there are safe, effective ways to tackle this problem, depending on your needs and the results you're looking to achieve.

The Procedure

Liposuction is the best way to target stubborn areas of fat that simply won't shift. This is why we offer three different variations of the treatment for 'moob' reduction:

VASER Lipo

VASER Liposuction is a minimally invasive treatment for gynecomastia that can give you the body you want, without the pain and risk of major surgery and without the need of general anaesthetic. It is less invasive than traditional liposuction and, because it differentiates between fat and important tissues such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues, the risk of damage to these tissues is practically eliminated.

With VASER liposuction, the fat is liquefied and removed from the body through a gentle suction process. Less invasive than traditional liposuction, VASER lipo is a walk-in walk-out procedure which doesn’t require a hospital stay or long time away from work or sport activities. Results are very soft and natural looking.

For patients who prefer a very athletic, sculpted look, VASER High Definition is a better option. Click here for our gallery of before and after photos and to see the difference between standard VASER and VASER High Definition.

MicroLipo

Featured on Tatler's 2011 Guide of Beauty and Cosmetic Surgery, the Microcannulas Technique or MicroLipo is also ideal for male breast reduction. Cannulas less than 3 mm in diameter are used to remove the fat, which means there is less risk of irregularities and depressions in the skin compared to regular liposuction.

Both VASER and MicroLipo are carried out under local anaesthetic, so you’ll feel no pain during your treatment.

Surgical Liposuction

Surgical Liposuction is normally used on those who aren't suitable for either VASER or MicroLipo. It is more invasive than the other two forms, but best for those who have a large amount of fat to be extracted. It is often performed under general anesthetic, which means you may require a hospital stay but a surgeon will explain thoroughly why it will suit your needs best before you decide to go ahead.

The Results

Pockets of fat in your chest area can successfully be removed, improving the overall shape and contours of your body. You will see results straight away. However, your chest area will show the most improvement in the months after the procedure.

Downtime

Downtime is minimal for VASER and MicroLipo and you can get back to your daily routine almost immediately. However, because there may be some bruising and swelling, it’s best to wait one to two weeks before you hit the gym or do any other rigorous physical activity. Many of our procedures allow patients to return to work within 48-72 hours. Surgical Liposuction will require a longer recovery period, and you may have drains fitted following treatment. Your recovery will be explained thoroughly to you during consultations, as each treatment is entirely individual.

  • What Does the Treatment Involve?

    VASER Liposuction and MicroLipo

In VASER treatments, fat is liquefied and removed from the body through a gentle suction process. MicroLipo utilises a similar process, but uses micro cannulas to minimise disruption to the body and does not use VASER probes to break down the fat.

Far less invasive than traditional liposuction, VASER Lipo and MicroLipo are walk-in walk-out procedures which don't require hospital stays or long times away from work or sport activities. Results are very soft and natural looking. Both procedures are typically performed under local anaesthetic, helping you recover quicker with less risks.

You can consider our VASER High-Def procedure if you are looking for ultimate definition and body contouring. Sometimes all the hard work at the gym can feel undone by stubborn fat, and VASER High-Def can sculpt the fat away and emphasise muscles.

    Surgical Liposuction

Highly effective, Surgical Liposuction is more invasive than VASER or MicroLipo but far less complex than it used to be. The most important decision you'll make isn't in which form of treatment you go for, but what doctor you work with. It's not the treatment form, but the professional that is important.

  • Does the Procedure Hurt?

Both VASER Lipo and MicroLipo are carried out under local anaesthetic, so you’ll feel no pain during your treatment. You may experience some discomfort, but this is usually minimal. The downtime involved is minimal as well, allowing you to return to work quickly and most importantly comfortably.

Surgical Liposuction can be performed under general anaesthetic, which means you'll again feel no pain during treatment. You will often be advised on pain killers to ease your recovery, as well as post-operative advice to give you the easiest healing period.

  • How Long Does the Procedure Take?

The procedures generally last between 1 and 2 hours, though this will always vary on your individual case and what type of anaesthetic you require.

  • How Soon Will I See the Results?

You will see results straight away. However, your chest area will show the most improvement in the months after the procedure.

  • How Long Will the Results Last?

When fat cells are removed, they are removed for good. However, the only way to ensure other fat cells do not expand and your results are maintained is by following a healthy diet and exercise plan.

  • Are There Any Complications Associated with the Procedure?

There will be some swelling and bruising after the procedure, however this should subside within a few weeks. We’ll give you a special compression garment to wear after treatment which will help minimise swelling and bruising.  As always there are risks involved with any procedure, but our medical team's experience ensures these are kept to minimum and always explained in full to you during consultation.
