Social media has been awash with claims that rosemary oil is the secret hair growth treatment.

Rosemary oil has stimulating properties which can make it a good option for boosting the health of your scalp.

Whether it will actually promote and support healthy hair and growth will depend on the individual’s own health and wellbeing.

Many companies are already using rosemary oil in their products designed for scalp health. It’s anti-inflammatory properties can encourage new hair growth by improving circulation to the hair follicles. It is also a great serum for treating a dry or itchy scalp.

The Private Clinic spoke to Metro on the topic of rosemary oil

Why is scalp care so important for hair growth?

‘The scalp contains hundreds of thousands of tiny follicles,’ explains The Private Clinic.

‘Your hair grows out of these follicles and so a healthy scalp is vital for healthy hair growth. Maintaining a balanced environment with healthy skin will maintain healthy hair growth and reduce hair shedding.’

‘Hair oiling is something that has been done for hundreds or even thousands of years in some cultures and can be beneficial for helping to hydrate hair follicles and prevent dryness of the scalp, as well as stimulating growth,’ they explain.

How should we apply rosemary oil?

It was suggested that you should be applying rosemary oil two to three times weekly along with a head/scalp massage to increase the blood flow ensuring that the nutrients get to the hair follicles.
