Brits Buck Recession and Opt for Cosmetic Surgery

FEMALE TREATMENTS

The figures are in and it seems that more and more members of the British public are splashing out on cosmetic surgery.

A recent survey carried out by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and published in last weeks Guardian, tells us that despite the current economic downturn, last year saw a 6.2% increase in breast augmentation procedures, while abdominoplasty operations grew by a whopping 15%.

Stats from the report also showed what we suspected all along, more males than ever are opting for a nip tuck with a growth of 5.6% from the year before. ‘Tummy tuck’ procedures are proving to be the most popular male procedure, with a record number-taking place throughout last year.
So what could be the factors encouraging this increase?
Last month the Daily Mail named Social Media as a key factor for people wanting to change their appearance. Bored of running to the nearest computer to untag their latest uploaded Facebook photos, members of the public were opting for surgery as a way to increase their confidence.
What do you think of these stats? Do you feel that they are representative to the world around you? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below!
