Calum Best to undergo third hair transplant procedure

October 14, 2014 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

He’s perhaps best known to most for his iconic bachelor lifestyle, but over the past few years Calum Best has earned a name for himself in another way – an honest admission of his struggle with hair loss.

Calum Best before his first hair transplant and recently with his new hairline.
Calum Best before his first hair transplant and recently with his new hairline.

Son of footballer George Best, the 33 year old model and actor began losing his hair at the age of 23 and has since undergone two procedures to transplant a total of 2,228 individual hairs to his receding hairline. Now, he admits, he is preparing for a third procedure.

Talking about his relationship with hair restoration and why he is going for the triple–transplant, Best said “these procedures have completely changed my life. They have given me so much more confidence and enabled me to wear my hair just the way I like.” And the actor is one of a long line of celebrities to admit hair restoration surgery: “stars like Rooney and James Nesbitt have made a big difference. They’ve been very open about what they have had done and most men just say ‘good on them.’ And most women say ‘don’t they look better.’“

Multiple hair transplants are not uncommon and certainly don’t mean the original procedure was unsuccessful. While a treatment can restore hair that has been lost, it cannot prevent new thinning occurring in other areas. During consultation your hair restoration surgeon should work with you to discuss whether they believe a singular transplant will be beneficial to you in the long run and, while we can never fully predict the likelihood of you needing another transplant, what they consider the risk to be.

At The Private Clinic we have some of the most sought-after hair surgeons in Europe who focus on only the most minimally-invasive, pioneering treatments which is why we work exclusively with a method of hair restoration called FUE, Follicular Unit Extraction. In the procedure individual follicles are extracted from donor areas where hair is in abundance and transplanted into the thinning parts of the scalp. The method works on a highly intricate level, meaning that under the right surgeon it leaves no linear scarring, and recovery times are far quicker than older methods of transplantation.

“The fact that I still have my hair helps me to get film roles” says Best and, while hair transplantation might not be able to get most of us a leading part in a Hollywood blockbuster, it can help build confidence and boost the esteem of those who are down about their changing hairline.

If you’re experiencing hair loss and would like to talk to someone, visit our site or book a consultation with our team. Hair restoration surgery is available in our London and Leeds clinics, with consultations available at various bases across the country.

Tough and Rugged: FUE Beard Transplants

April 4, 2014 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Among all the features that represent masculinity, facial hair is one that is often thought as the most obvious trait that a man can possess – so it’s certainly no surprise that FUE Hair Transplants are popular for men that desire a thicker and more dense beard.

New York has seen a boom in facial hair transplants recently as young men seek to reflect the facial fashion of the stars. Ryan Gosling, David Beckham, Ben Affleck and Hugh Jackman are just some of the celebrities who are trending not just for their acting but their facial hair too.

And this boom in facial hair transplants hasn’t remained in the Big Apple either. Our very own doctors at The Private Clinic have noticed an increase in demand as well. The UK in the past year has performed over 4,500 beard transplants as men hope to ‘feel more masculine’. A study noted by the Daily Mail has found that as many as 59% of men think that having a beard makes them feel ‘more macho’ while 45% of men complain of odd patches through their sideburns and beards.

It appears that sporting a good haircut doesn’t stop at the top of our heads. Men are seeking rugged designer stubble, bushy moustaches, big sideburns and full beards in order to finish off their stylish look.

Our very own Dr Raghu Reddy – a top UK specialist in hair transplants – has been helping men achieve a fuller beard for the past eight years. Dr Reddy has noticed more young men coming to him for help. Reflecting upon the patients he has treated he recently stated in the Evening Standard: “Men take pride in having a nicely trimmed beard, so I see a lot of men with patchy beards who want in-filling. They associate having a good beard with masculinity.”

So what exactly does it take for one to have a bodacious beard? In this post, we’ll take a look at how an FUE hair transplant can transform a patchy, stubbly beard into an enviably thicker one.

beard transplants - FUE

What does FUE mean?

FUE simply stands for Follicle Unit Extraction, and is a minimally invasive method for restoring and enhancing hair density on different areas of the face and body, in this case, the beard. During the procedure, the donor and treatment areas are numbed with local anaesthetic, the donor follicles are removed with an ultra-fine punch (less than 1mm in diameter) and carefully implanted onto the patchy, thinning areas that lack density on the beard. This method has gained popularity in recent years due to its results and permanency.

What makes an FUE hair transplant different from other methods?

Many other hair restoration methods (like the FUT Strip method) are surgical, involve scalpels, general anaesthetic and tend to leave unsightly scars making them difficult to disguise. The FUE method uses only the healthiest donor hair follicles, and the procedure is virtually painless. The FUE method can safely extract up to 7000 hairs in one session and during this phase, none of the follicular units are destroyed – another attribute that makes this method truly unique.

True to its minimally invasive nature, there is no stitching, scarring or downtime required, and the results are noticeable immediately.

FUE Hair Transplant Pricing

April 2, 2014 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

We understand that the price of any cosmetic or aesthetic treatment plays a substantial role in the consideration process for anyone wanting a hair transplant.

While you should always pay attention to the pricing structures offered to you for a hair transplant, you need to always keep that factor secondary to the quality of care and the results offered by a clinic or surgeon. This extends to their reputation, credentials and experience of both.

We are asked daily about pricing information regarding our various procedures and while we’re more than happy to give you an average price a patient pays, more accurate quotes can only be offered by the surgeon during a consultation after assessing your case and needs.

How much does a FUE Hair Transplant cost?

FUE Hair Transplant procedures at The Private Clinic cost on average; £2.50 per transplanted hair. For patients with a reasonable amount of hair loss, the procedure could cost on average £6,000-8,000. For more extensive procedures, the costs can increase considerably. If you would like an Unshaven (U-FUE) hair transplant, the cost increases further. Many procedures end up costing between £6,000-9,000. More extensive hair restoration procedures may be split into two procedures with a significant gap in between them.

The overall cost of a hair transplant procedure will be calculated by the time taken, amount of hairs transplanted and the difficulty of the procedure. Prices will also often reflect the quality of the procedure and the experience your surgeon may have and often what may appear to be a great deal may not end up being one if you are left with bad results and significant scarring. Here at The Private Clinic we unfortunately often see a lot of patients who require hair transplants to repair poor hair transplant results.

Expert Hair Transplant Surgeons at The Private Clinic

Once one of our hair transplant doctors, Dhave deemed you suitable for an FUE Hair Transplant you will then be informed as to how many grafts or hairs you’ll require to have transplanted. This will be based on the results that you are after and it is then that an accurate price for your procedure will be given.

This Is My Hair: A FUE Hair Transplant in Action

March 4, 2013 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

At The Private Clinic we decided to start up a series on female hair loss and restoration titled: This Is My Hair. We began this week by posting on social media about a young woman’s triangular alopecia and her FUE hair transplant, which was closely followed by a youtube video of the procedure and interviews with the surgeon, Dr Luca De Fazio.

Our patient, a 26 year old Londoner, was suffering from triangular alopecia, which had affected her confidence for a long time and made her feel self-conscious when wearing her hair in a ponytail. She remarked after the procedure, “My family and friends can’t believe I was in and out in just over two hours, no pain or baffling post op care, yet it’s going to change my life.”

Before, 2 days after & 2 weeks after a FUE Hair Transplant
Before, 2 days after & 2 weeks after a FUE Hair Transplant

In this blog post we detail the procedure and its wider context to help you better understand the FUE procedure – from the patient’s perspective.

The FUE Method

The FUE (follicular unit extraction) method involves very small incisions (imagine a micro but decidedly more complex hole punch) made around healthy hair follicles, usually at the back of the head where the follicles are strongest. The grafts of follicles are then transplanted to the balding or thinning areas under local anaesthetic – with minimal fuss and no pain.  The Hair Transplant can be performed without shaving the donor area of hair so you can avoid that hassle (this however, depends on candidate suitability). Here at The Private Clinic, we’re one of only a few clinics that can work on Afro hair too.

All you have to do is wait for the hair to establish itself, so that 6 months later 60% of the hair expected to grow has started growing. After a year the procedure and hair growth will be complete.

The FUT Method

To put the FUE method in perspective, a comparison between another popular technique is necessary to demonstrate why our surgeons prefer to use the FUE method.

The FUT method has been a popular option but involves a lengthy procedure, both during and after the initial transplant. With the patient under general anaesthetic, strips of the patient’s scalp, along with follicular units, are surgically removed from the back of the head, dissected under a microscope and grafted into place. The process is not over there though. The FUT method requires a strict post-operative aftercare schedule, which may not suit many who wish to resume their daily lives promptly. The procedure also leaves patients with a long linear scar across the back of their heads, limiting their options of wearing their hair short.

The Benefits of the FUE Method

Higher costs are often cited as a disadvantage of the FUE method. However, the method is steadfast in making advancements at a faster and more evident rate, surging ahead in popularity, helping to push down the costs for clients. Furthermore, what it has over the FUT method is the scope for improvement. Since 2002, its debut, the incision circumference has decreased significantly, helping greatly to reduce the visibility of the already very minimal scars. Additionally, where once only 2,500 hair follicles could be harvested successfully in one day, the figure currently stands at over 7,000 – enough to suit the majority of clients.

The Private Clinic

It is important to feel comfortable in your own body and patients come to us citing confidence and self-image concerns as primary factors for seeking treatment. There are a number of options available to suit differing needs and here at The Private Clinic we can assist you in finding the right one for you for a balanced and satisfying result. If you are looking for a hair transplant, we specialise in FUE hair transplants, which have helped to redraw the limits of transplants.

The Best Celeb Hair Transplants

November 16, 2012 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

There have been several hair transplant celeb reveals in the press recently, and unlike some celebs that shy away from admitting having had cosmetic surgery, many have been honest and confirmed it. But who of the inhabitants of celebville are the mane attractions?

Here at The Private Clinic we have decided to reveal some of the best celeb hair transplants that we have come across to date – we have quite a few to choose from!

Amongst the celebs that have decided to go under the knife, there is: Wayne Rooney, Jason Gardiner, Callum Best, Alistair McGowan, Gordon Ramsey, James Nesbitt.

One of the best hair transplants that we have come across has to belong to James Nesbitt. Following a year of rumours that he had undergone the procedure, last year Nesbitt finally publicly admitted to having had two operations to disguise his thinning hair, back in 2009.

Prior to his hair transplant James Nesbitt had always been open about his hatred of going bald, and after receiving much media attention for his hair transplant, the actor began to openly discuss his treatment in the press by saying, “Several years ago, I began losing my hair and like a lot of men it was a major concern to me, in fact it was practically an obsession. But, also I’m an actor so I’m in the public eye a lot and I really felt that my hair loss could affect my career prospects.” Adding: “Since then I have had two hair transplants and I am very pleased with the results. In fact, I’d go as far to say they’ve changed my life.”

Comments about the transplant

Next on our list of favourite celeb hair transplants is footballer, Wayne Rooney, who, last year became the talk of the press after opting for the procedure. After much speculation, the football ace took to Twitter to confirm to his fans he was delighted with the surgery.

“Just to confirm to all my followers, I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25, so why not? I’m delighted with the result.” He also made light of the procedure, later posting: “Hi all let’s try and get #hairwego trending”

Wayne Rooney had undergone a Follicular Unit Extraction procedure or FUE, which involves removing healthy hair follicles directly from a donor area on the scalp, usually at the back of the head where there is more hair, and then grafting them onto the bald or thinning areas.

The treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic, so there is no scarring and the results are permanent.

The Private Clinic hair specialists, Dr.Raghu Reddy,  Dr Luca De Fazio, Mr Michail Mouzakis, Dr Mark Tam and Mr Doraisami Mohan offer the most advanced, minimally invasive hair transplant methodologies and techniques available today.

To find out more information about the FUE hair transplant procedure, visit our website or please get in touch via 0333 920 2471 or you can request consultations through our website.
