Celebrities and cosmetic surgery

COSMETIC SURGERY

Open up the entertainment section of any website or newspaper and you’re bound to see a certain topic at least once a week; celebrities and their relationship with cosmetic surgery. Sometimes it might be stars speaking out about why they opted to undergo a treatment, or occasionally it can be regret from a celebrity who undertook a treatment without researching it fully. Far more popular than both of these combined, however, is the speculative post and big question; have they or haven’t they?
Last week the latest celebrity to be added to the dreaded question list was Renée Zellweger after an appearance at ELLE’s 21st Annual Women In Hollywood Awards. Having had a couple of years relatively hidden from the spotlight, the actress looked very different from the fresh-freshed, rosy-cheeked ‘real girl’ most knew her as in Bridget Jones. The 45-year-old responded to comments of her different facade with delight but assurance that it wasn’t anything to do with cosmetic treatment, commenting: “I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows.
With speculation rife and countless media outlets discussing Zellweger’s new look The Hills’ star Heidi Montag, herself openly public about undergoing several plastic surgery procedures, gave empathy to anyone considering treatment: “I don’t know if Renée Zellweger just aged like she said but, for me, when I see people look totally different, I have an empathy,” she explained. “I feel like I know why – at least why I did it – and it brings me back to that time in my life, and I feel for them.
Regardless of the reason behind Renée’s seemingly drastic change and whether it’s natural or not, the pressure on famous faces to remain  young and beautiful is clear. In the same week, one of the world’s highest paid screen stars Julia Roberts discussed her feelings on the mounting pressure she feels, telling  You Magazine “By Hollywood standards, I guess I’ve already taken a big risk in not having had a facelift.
Even as non-celebrities, we too can feel the pressure of looking good as the clock ticks by. The way we choose to age will always differ from person to person but at The Private Clinic we believe that, providing your chosen method is ethical, safe and fully endorsed by medical professionals, your decision should be nobody’s business but your own. Celebrities face a huge amount of responsibility as role models and, providing they remain respectful to themselves, scrutiny in the media is neither productive nor pleasant. It’s your body and only you understand your decisions. Just make sure anyone you work with, from make up retailers to surgeons, also understand your choices so you can age your way, without any regrets.
