From Pearl to Pixel, Here’s Our Laser Skin Treatment FAQ

LASER SKIN TREATMENTS

There are a number of Laser Skin Cosmetic Treatments out there, which target various problems with the body – including Pixel laserPearl Fusion and two other Pearl Laser Skin Resurfacing treatments. It can all get very confusing when you see what’s out there so we decided to talk about the laser skin treatments available at The Private Clinic in a blog post.

Before and After laser skin resurfacing treatment.

What is a laser?
Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, very much like how VASER means Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. It is a single colour and wavelength source of high energy light that can be accurately focused onto a very small area. By definition lasers are within the visible light category in the electromagnetic spectrum. You may hear about light based treatments, like IPL These treatments have their benefits but do not offer the concentration required for effective treatment, like laser treatments can.
There are many different types of laser treatments for face out there because they each operate on a specific wavelength to treat different issues, from veins to wrinkles.
What does Ablative and Nonablative mean?
Ablative lasers take away the top layer of the skin, whereas nonablative lasers penetrate deeper without removing the top layer of the skin. Typically ablative treatments require more downtime but can be used in single session treatments effectively. They treat more significant problems. Nonablative treatments may require a number of treatment sessions to achieve similar results and laser resurfacing recovery time is very quick, requiring minimal downtime. Nonablative treatments are popular because they fit into our daily lives easily and can treat light to moderate conditions easily – as well as helping treat more significant problems in combination with ablative treatments.
What is the difference between Pearl and Pixel Laser Treatments?
Pixel – a fractional ablative laser skin resurfacing treatment. It is prominently used to treat acne scarring and uneven skin tone for any skin type. Controlled lasers are passed over the skin taking away the top layer of the skin. Patients will usually need 3-6 sessions and can be done 3-4 weeks apart. The treatment is mildly uncomfortable but the feeling will only last 45 minutes. It may feel like sunburn and look like it for a few days. Within a few days the skin will flake and within a week you can expect to return to your normal social life.
Pearl – there are 3 associated treatments:

  1. Pearl Laser Resurfacing,
  2. Pearl Laser Ablative Resurfacing
  3. Pearl Fusion

Pearl Laser Resurfacing is a laser skin rejuvenation treatment nonablative and can treat issues like lines, wrinkles, age spots and uneven skin tone. You will need to spend a few days at home afterwards. Pearl Laser Ablative Resurfacing goes further and takes away the damaged skin to target deeper lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone problems. The area will feel tender on the day of treatment but simple painkillers will help reduce any discomfort. You will need to spend a week at home as the area will be quite red and eventually crust over. Pearl Fusion is a combination of both Laser Skin Cosmetic treatments in a single session to provide patients with the ultimate treatment for skin problems. You will need to be at home for around 10 days after treatment.
