The Problem

Unlike excess fat caused by weight gain, fat caused by Lipoedema cannot be lost through diet or exercise. It can be both debilitating and upsetting for sufferers, with certain parts of the body swollen out of all proportion. Traditionally, patients have had to rely on massage and compression garments as the only way to alleviate symptoms, but often this can be largely ineffective on its own.

Liposuction – a treatment for Lipoedema

We are proud to be one of very few clinics able to offer specialist treatment for female Lipoedema sufferers. MicroLipo, a form of minimally-invasive liposuction, can be used to help manage the condition and ease the strain on day-to-day activities.

Whilst no known cure for the condition currently exists, in 2008 the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recognised liposuction as an appropriate method for managing and alleviating the symptoms.

Microcannular Tumescent Liposuction is one of the least invasive forms of liposuction, involving the removal of excess fatty cells from specific areas of the body via a tiny cannula. Treatments for lipoedema are not widely available on the NHS and The Private Clinic’s specialist unit is the first of its kind in the UK.

Advantages of MicroLipo for Lipoedema Treatment:

  • MicroLipo is a minimally-invasive long-term solution to chronic lipoedema not responding to conservative treatments. Research proves that results derived from MicroLipo are known to last at least 15 years, with no recurrence, so long that the post-operative advice is followed.
  • The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic (no need for sedation, or overnight stay)
  • Downtime and recovery are minimal in comparison to the results.
  • Low risk of scarring and no stitching is required, as very small incisions are made
  •  Minimal risk of bleeding
  • MicroLipo for Lipoedema is exclusive to The Private Clinic, and is currently not available on the NHS.

Patient Story *

Lymphoedema sufferer, Judith Broadbent, underwent the Microlipo procedure after years of struggling with the condition which meant one of her legs was over twice the size of the other. This caused Judith huge embarrassment and also meant that everyday tasks, such as buying clothes and getting dressed, were a daily struggle. Judith had Microlipo to remove the excess fat cells in her leg and continues to manage her condition through the aftercare process.

Judith said:

To say the Microlipo procedure has been life changing is an understatement. I had suffered for years with Lymphoedema and was at the end of my tether when I decided to go ahead with the procedure. I had tried everything else on offer to me, and was ready to try anything.

“I can honestly say that it was the best thing I have ever done. The treatment was straightforward – it was carried out under local anaesthetic and I was in and out the same day – and my leg more than halved in size following the procedure. My doctor, Dr Gupta, made it clear to me that this was not a cure, however, there is no sign of my leg returning to the size it was pre-treatment. I know I will be on a lifelong management programme, but I can happily deal with that! I am just so happy that I can wear and buy trousers and that I don’t feel disfigured anymore.” *

The Private Clinic has only the most experienced Surgeons, Doctors and Nurses in their respective fields, so you can be confident you are in safe hands.

Lipoedema Liposuction Treatment

Microlipo treatment gently removes excess fatty cells from the target area before you are put on a bespoke management programme involving regular lymphatic massage and specially designed and professionally fitted compression garments.

The treatment course, operated in line with NICE guidelines, is run under the expert guidance of Cosmetic Physician Dr Puneet Gupta; a highly recognised expert in the field of minimally invasive liposuction.
We are unfortunately currently unable to offer the treatment to male patients.

Results

Microlipo has been recognised by NICE as a way to alleviate the symptoms of the condition and has proven to be incredibly effective in many cases. Of course, this is not a cure for Lipoedema, but it does offer patients a proper, effective solution for significantly reducing the size of the affected area. This in turn, can have an incredibly positive impact on quality of life.

Aftercare

Your aftercare is as important as the Microlipo procedure itself and your ongoing compression and massage is a vital part of the process. Our team of nurses and specialists will remain in regular contact to help you manage your condition and maintain the quality of life that Microlipo has afforded.

The treatment costs from £3,000 per treatment, depending on the area to be treated and the severity of the condition.

‘Dr Gupta was very honest and professional and did an excellent job on my legs.  He changed my life!’  *
