Can Emsculpt help with diastasis recti?

Emsculpt is really effective at improving muscle tone and burning fat but it can also be used to help improve diastasis recti. Diastasis recti or rectus abdominis diastasis is common in women post-pregnancy. The pressure on the stomach from pregnancy can cause the abdominal muscles to stretch and separate causing a bulge in the stomach. In most cases the muscles are eventually able to shrink back to their original shape but for some this does not happen.

Previously surgery was the only way to rectify this issue which can cause a significant amount of unwanted downtime. Emsculpt offers the first non-surgical means of improving this condition boasting a 11% reduction in abdominal muscle separation.

How is Emsculpt different to going to the gym?

Emsculpt treatment contracts 100% of the muscle for 100% of the time you are having treatment. When you are at the gym, you usually contract around 35-40% or a professional athlete may contract up to 55% so it results in a much more focused and stronger work out that would be physically impossible to replicate in the gym yourself.

Does the Emsculpt procedure hurt?

The Emsculpt procedure is not designed to be painful however due to the treatment targeting the muscles it can feel like an intense workout. Patients are laid down during the procedure to help them feel relaxed.

Will I be sore after Emsculpt treatment?

When you visit the gym you will be working different muscle groups which can rip and then heal back together which is often what causes muscle soreness or delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) in the days following your workout. Soreness can also be a result of a build-up of lactic acid.

Following Emsculpt treatment you may feel slightly tender in the area that was treated but not like muscle soreness you experience following a workout at the gym.

How long does Emsculpt treatment take?

The treatment time required for Emsculpt with vary depending on the treatment area. In most cases the treatment will take 20 – 30 minutes. The best results are seen after 4 treatment sessions spaced 2-3 days apart so patients should allow 120 minutes of their time for treatment.

What is the downtime following Emsculpt?

There is no downtime associated with Emsculpt. Some patients may feel sensitive in the areas treated following the procedure similar to how they would feel after an intensive gym session but not as intense.

You will be able to return to work immediately following the procedure.

Are the results from Emsculpt permanent?

The results from Emsculpt can be maintained in patients who continue to follow a healthy lifestyle routine. The fat cells that have been destroyed by the increase in fat metabolism will be permanent unless there is significant weight gain which can cause the remaining cells to grow again.

We recommend one Emsculpt treatment every 3-6 months to help maintain the results in muscle tone.

What are the benefits after the Emsculpt treatment?

Emsculpt can provide more benefits to patients aside from fat reduction and muscle building.

Patients who have had their abdomen treated will find their posture will improve and any lower back pain is reduced.

Regular gym goers may find they are able to hold a plank for longer, lift more or even squat heavier and just feel their core strength is improved.

Patients who are regular runners or swimmers may find they can perform faster due to a strengthened core too.

Emscupt can also help to reduce delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) or muscle fatigue.
