The Jake-Jamie VASER Liposuction Diary: Part 4

November 8, 2015 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Our last instalment went over the main part of the recovery process and detailed what spending four weeks in a compression garment was like for Jake.

Now it’s time to tell you what comes next because we’re not out of the woods just yet.

A note on results…

Jake had some words of advice to share with anyone who might be considering VASER Liposuction, but warned that ‘the journey is very up and down in terms of your results’.

“It’s like I was just saying, when you first take the garment off you look thin and amazing, but then the next time you take it off, you do notice that the swelling starts to come through. Your body almost looks like it did before. “

At points, he even ended up thinking: “Oh my god! Why do I look like this? Why is the fat coming back.”

“What you’ve got to remember is that’s not the case.

“The fat can’t come back guys!”

Jake’s skin still has some more tightening to do, but he’s definitely getting there.

Jake did however keep to a strict diet of ‘bleeding carrots and lentils’ at first, despite being repeatedly told that eating as normal would not affect his results.

“I still ate mega-healthy cause I was just too scared. It does motivate you to just keep eating really well because you never want to go back to the way that you looked before.”

Can’t fault him for that, now can we?

Where’s Jake at now?

At this stage, Jake has seen some dramatic changes, but he doesn’t feel like he’s near his end result at all.

“For some people it takes a good three to four months before the finished result,” he said.

“Know that it’s the kind of thing that requires patience, but at the end of the day it’s going to be worth it when you’re rocking in your speedos or your little bikini next year on the beach once all the swelling’s gone down.”

Having said that, it’ll be some time before we release Jake’s final results and have his ‘big reveal’.

What does Jake think of his results so far?

It’s obviously going to take some time for the full effects to manifest themselves but as Jake has previously said himself, you just have to hang in there and wait.

Patience is key and at least you do see improvements along the way.

As for Jake…

Jake was still wearing his garment at this point.

“So far I’m a very, very happy chappie indeed, and I’m really pleased that I had this surgery done.

“Even just wearing clothes now, the fact that I can put a top on and I have no ‘moobs’, is just an absolutely amazing feeling. It really is.”

It’s good to know that even at this stage Jake is reaping benefits from the treatment.

Did Jake go through this alone?

No, he most definitely did not. Having a support network when undergoing such a treatment is always a good call and in Jake’s case he was well taken care of.

At home, his partner was there to help him on a daily basis, whereas  we made ourselves available for him when he needed it.

“The Private Clinic has been amazing. Their aftercare is literally sensational. The nice thing is that they are constantly checking up on you to make sure that you’re okay and giving you calls, “ Jake recalls.

“There’s always someone to speak to, to voice any concerns that you have. Even if just want to have a general chat – there’s always someone. I even had the surgeons email address.

“You know they really are absolutely brilliant and I always felt like I had someone to turn to or talk to if I did have any concerns,” he concludes.

Well, there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth.

Coming in for a treatment with us means that we won’t forget about you the second you leave our clinic. Complete aftercare is part of our package and we plan to be with you every step of the way.

Waiting for The Big Reveal

Unfortunately, we can’t tell you when Jake’s body will settle into its final form, so we’re going to have to be as patient as Jake on this one.

We’re sure you’re as curious as we are to see the final results, so watch this space and we’ll update you when the time comes.

The Jake-Jamie VASER Liposuction Diary: Part 3

November 7, 2015 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

You’ve caught snatches of stories here and there, flicked through some articles, but in this instalment of Jake’s VASER Diary you’ll find out what the recovery process after VASER Liposuction is really like, as well as why Jake’s compression garment became the bane of his life.

There’s a lot to cover so let’s jump right in and discover the challenges of treatment aftercare.

What does it feel like?

When we left Jake at the end of Part 2 he’d been pumped full of tumescent (anaesthetic) liquid and waiting to go home.

Jake was as charming as ever right after his op.
Jake was feeling pretty good post-op.

“My first day, I didn’t get much sleep. I needed to go to the bathroom every 15 minutes because your body is absorbing all this liquid and it just needs to let it out. But that’s a good thing, it’s a massive benefit as I didn’t feel any pain until the day after the surgery,” Jake explains.

After his procedure, he didn’t feel much other than a nice buzz that carried on till the next day. It was then that his senses finally caught up with his body.

One of the first things Jake noticed when he woke up that day was that the excess liquid in his body had started slowly leaking out during the night.

“So much so– and I can’t believe I’m telling you this – that we had to get adult nappies,” he said.

Now before you start imagining a horror scene unfolding, think of it this way: he’s like a balloon that’s been filled up with water and pierced with very thin needles. That water will slowly leak out. Some blood would have tinged the tumescent liquid now escaping his body, but in no way was he bleeding out.

Since Jake had a lot of areas treated (his pecks, chest, stomach and flanks), he knew to expect some physical discomfort.

“It’s not that you can’t deal with the pain, it’s just that it’s hard to get yourself around, to move and lift yourself up,” said Jake.

As most of the work had been done on his core, at first movement was bound to be a bit difficult, but he nevertheless managed to work from home for the next few days, uploading videos to his Youtube channel.

He’s known as ‘The Beauty Boy’ on Youtube.

“The pain for me anyway, was gone after about seven to eight days. Afterwards I was just a little bit tender to touch, with the majority of the pain in my core and the bruising having gone down quite dramatically really.”

To speed up his recovery, Jake attended regular MLD massage sessions, which helped reduce his swelling and drain the excess liquid from his body.

To further help him along the way, Jake wore a compression garment for the four weeks following his procedure.

Jake VS The Compression Garment

The first thing you need to know about compression garments is that ‘it’s sexy stuff’.

jake and his garment
He loved it really.

Jake had to wear the garment for a full 24 hours following his treatment, after which he was allowed to take a quick shower – not as straightforward a process as it used to be.

He made his feelings quite clear: “This thing has been the bane of my life for four weeks now!”

He said: “To do this I lay down on the floor and slowly unzipped. That’s the way that it’s advised because the compression garment is obviously quite tight and people have been known to feel really faint if they’ve taken it off standing up.”

Suddenly, though, amidst all the discomfort, a silver lining appeared.

vaser liposuction jake jamie recovery chest“I’ll tell you what, it was the most amazing feeling.

“As I was undoing each button I just felt like my body felt slimmer and slimmer… and amazing and more amazing… and it just felt absolutely incredible.

His stomach still looked a little bit ‘chunky’ and he couldn’t see any definition as such, but he said that there was nevertheless a ‘huge difference’.

“When I took it off, you could literally see that this new waist had been created and the first thing that I noticed is that my chest was just so, so flat.

“Like literally, not an ounce of fat there, which when you’ve had pockets of fat there for years, is just an incredible feeling.”

Getting in and out of the garment may be a slight hassle but it does keep things in check while offering you the element of surprise every time you unzip it.

Is it comfortable?

As the name implies, the garment is there to compress everything, closing up the new space between your skin and your muscles. By keeping everything tight and in one place, your body can slowly start to take on its new shape and effectively settle into it.

Despite all of the huffing and puffing Jake admitted that it isn’t actually the worst thing in the world:

“To be honest with you, it’s actually quite comfortable. It’s pretty breathable, but there’s no denying that you do feel like a massive whale when you wear it for four weeks.

“But then at the same time four weeks passes very, very quickly and it’s fine. You can still kind of do your normal bits and bobs, but it’s just a bit annoying when you want to do things like housework and stuff like that.

The garment is rather restraining so it can be difficult to lift up your arms or bend down. In the first two weeks, it’s made more comfortable thanks to a foam insert.

jake and his foam insert
Jake and his foam insert.

Jake explains: “You literally put it under the compression garment – and again this makes you look like an even bigger whale – but the good thing about this thing is that you only have to wear it for two weeks and that literally flew by to be fair.”

Apparently Jake is the kind of person who gets hot very easily, often suffering from hot flushes, so he was worried that he’d end up ‘sweating buckets’ with all these accessories on.

Luckily his worries were unfounded as he found that there was no excessive sweating and that the suit has ‘really good thermostatic control’.

When you come down to it, yes, the garment is going to be restrictive, but it makes up for it by being comfortable and keeping you from disintegrating into a puddle.

(Okay, that last thing wouldn’t actually happen…)

After four weeks

We’re not going to lie, Jake was pretty happy when the surgeon gave him the go-ahead to take the compression garment off.

We believe that his exact word were: “I’m finally free! Thank the lord!”

Is he going to store it in the closet and bring it out to recall fond memories of his experience?

Nope.

“I think I’m going to burn the bloody thing,” mused Jake.

That’s fine by us Jake! Just make sure to adhere to fire regulations and avoid burning your house down.

What about the results?

Well, wouldn’t you like to know?

No worries you don’t have to wait long, we’ll tell you all about it tomorrow in Part 4 of Jake’s VASER diary.

See you then!

The Jake-Jamie VASER Liposuction Diary: Part 2

October 22, 2015 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Ready for the next chapter of Jake’s VASER Liposuction experience?

In Part 1, we finished things off with a few words from Jake just before he was about to go down and prep for his Vaser Lipo procedure. In this part we’re going to focus on the treatment and Jake’s impressions of the day.

As Jake was ushered into the pre-op room, we took the surgeon aside to see what his thoughts were on this patient’s case.

“What we’re looking forward to today is to do Jamie’s case… he’s young, he’s healthy, and he’s got a good underlying muscle template that we can work on. That’s what we do. We’re not creating things that aren’t there,” he said.

Jake told us how talking through the procedure with his surgeon put his mind at ease about the treatment and made him confident about his decision to pursue it.

It’s important to have a doctor that you feel you can trust as a good relationship with your doctor is essential for peace of mind, though we’re pretty sure Jake had things covered since he had this to say about him: “Jake is the kind of patient that when he walks into the room it’s a pleasure to see him.”

Prepping for surgery

Jake and his surgeon agreed that they would aim for Mid-Definition to his tummy, clean out his pecks, recreate his waist, and take care of what Jake refers to as his ‘love-handles’.

“We’ll take it to the maximum that we can and hopefully we can get him to Hi-Definition level and show his six-pack” said his surgeon

The night before Jake had been ‘more excited rather than anything’ but the nerves did start to kick in on the day.

“I went to get my blood pressure done and the nurse said to me:

‘Jake, you really need to try and calm yourself down now because your blood pressure is sky high, so just take big, deep breaths’. And by the time I actually went into the surgery room, I had managed to calm down quite significantly.”

With his blood pressure taken and his body doodled on, the fun was about to start…

IMG_3519
There’s always time for a quick selfie.

“The first thing that you do is stand there in these ridiculous pants […], you could see everything!”

He may have had reason to wonder whether there was any point in wearing the flimsy underwear, so, just for the record, it’s a standard precautionary measure. It definitely wouldn’t do as a daily accessory.

Next came the iodine…

“You have all this orange liquid put all over you. I think it’s just to make sure that the body is all disinfected so that when they make the incisions, they’re not putting in any bacteria into the body, and that you’re all nicely cleaned and ready to Rock & Roll!”

The Vaser Lipo procedure

Everyone was indeed ready to get things rolling, so as an intravenous line was put into Jake’s hand, he wondered whether he’d be able to see the contrast between lying there and then going into a state of unconsciousness.

The catheter is inserted…

Well, here’s what happened:

“My only memory is of somebody putting the catheter in my hand, and a nurse either side of me holding my hand – bless them, they’re so lovely – making sure that I was okay.

“And then… within seconds… it was almost like going to sleep. The next thing I knew, I woke up – dressed – ready to go home, which is for me the best way,” Jake said.

“I do not remember any part of the surgery whatsoever.”

VASER anestheologist 1.MOV.Still001

In retrospect, one of the oddest aspects of the experience was being told that he had been very responsive during the treatment. He would turn over when the nurses requested it and did exactly as he was told (but more in the sense that he wasn’t dead weight when the medical team lifted and moved him).

He was under conscious sedation, meaning that his brain could register sound, while being full of tumescent liquid, which meant he couldn’t feel anything. He was quite the snorer actually, and the surgeon was pleased with how deeply sedated Jake was.

“The idea of me laying there, completely awake, knowing what’s going on, is horrendous. I can’t think of anything worse.

“So the fact that I don’t remember feeling anything at all – is just for me, absolutely perfect.”

The anaesthetist regularly checked Jake’s pupils and airways, while keeping an eye on his heart rate, to keep him at steady level of sedation, as the surgeon went about sculpting the 23-year-old’s body.

VASER anesthesiologist.MOV.Still001
Jake’s vitals and airways were constantly monitored.

Jake does find it bizarre that to him it’s like those three hours of his life never happened, but ultimately he’s rather thankful for this particular memory lapse.

Waking up

Jake was as charming as ever right after his op.
Jake was as charming as ever right after his op.

The ‘Beauty Boy’ started to stir from his slumber not long after the surgeon had finished his work and as you know, he was feeling groovy.

“So when I came round, I didn’t really feel any pain at all. I must be honest with you, but I think it was probably due to the fact that I was still pretty high on drugs,” Jake said.

One of the perks of surgery, eh?

“Your body is pumped full of this liquid to stop you feeling anything at all, and that continued for the next, I don’t know, eight hours or so? I didn’t feel nothing.”

As it stood, the surgery had gone off without a hitch and Jake was ready to go home with his partner.

Going home

With the procedure behind him, Jake left the clinic and his unwanted fat behind him. Good riddance too.

He would have to come back in for MLD massage to help drain all the excess liquid in his body and to reduce any swelling.

The next few weeks were a little more challenging but full of surprises and new sensations.

It’s a wrap for Part 2 of Jake’s VASER diary though, so catch the next instalment to find out what his VASER Liposuction recovery entailed and how he handled it. Read part 3 here.

Treating Varicose Veins: Laura’s Story

February 2, 2015 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

It’s a common misconception that varicose veins are a sign of ageing. While they occur more frequently in those who are closer to middle age (50% of women over 50 suffer from them) they can rear themselves at any age, even in spite of the best leg care regimes.

A perfect example of this is Laura, a 25 year old who gave up her dream of modelling at the tender age of 19 all because of varicose veins on her legs.  Refused treatment by the NHS, Laura felt she had nowhere to turn until a family member recommended The Private Clinic Manchester as a possible treatment centre. After consultation and a good talk with our Consultant Vascular Surgeon. Laura decided to go undergo EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation), a minimally-invasive laser method of vein removal.

Laura with Consultant Vascular Surgeon Mr. Tahir Hussain.

The walk-in, walk-out method is performed under local anaesthetic and yields better results (not withstanding quicker recovery) than more traditional, surgical methods of vein removal.

During treatment, damaged veins are located using advanced ultrasound. Once the Surgeon has then mapped the veins and is sure of the cause of the problem, radio-frequency energy is directed at problem veins to make their walls collapse and the bulging blue vein disappear. It takes as little as 45 minutes (or 30 minutes in Laura’s case) and patients are free to leave once they’ve had a rest and their doctor believes they’re safe to return home – no hospital stay required.

This, teamed with the treatment’s success rate, has led EVLA to become NICE’s (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) ‘Gold Standard’ for varicose vein removal. The non-departmental public body outline that the method is far more effective and safe than surgical stripping, with longer-lasting results and a much easier recovery.

For patients like Laura, it’s not just about the veins look that mattered – it’s how they make you feel. Visit Laura’s patient story page to find out more.
