How much does the snoring operation cost?

May 14, 2020 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

It has been reported that there are over 15 million snorers in the UK making it a very common complaint although it should not be considered as normal. Sometimes those who regular snore can experience pauses in breathing whilst they sleep which is known as obstructive sleep apnoea. Snoring can also come with a number of other health implicants such as putting you at a higher risk of heart disease and having a stroke. So, it is no wonder that the snoring treatment market is saturated with a large number of miracle cures to help.

How to stop snoring?

There are a number of things you can do yourself at home to help reduce snoring which includes:

  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Sleeping on your side
  • Avoiding caffeine and dairy before bed
  • Reduce alcohol and smoking consumption
  • Set yourself consistent sleep routine

View our 7 ways to stop snoring blog to find out more information on our top tips to stop snoring.

Treating snoring can be challenging and when trying to reduce the risk of sleep apnoea too, the best option is often to seek professional help to ensure that you are safe and going to get the best results.

At The Private Clinic we offer a revolutionary snoring surgery procedure known as LAUP (Laser Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty) which offers great success for many of our patients.

What is the snoring surgery procedure?

Laser assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) is a snoring treatment procedure that is performed under local anaesthetic in-clinic. The procedure involves using a laser to remove the edges of the soft palate and uvula to reduce the size and remove excess tissue from the throat. This helps to increase the size of the airways which will aid breathing whilst you are sleeping.

LAUP surgery is a very precise and tissue damage is minimal which makes is a much safer and more comfortable procedure compared to uvulopalatoplasty (UPPP) surgery.

How successful is snoring surgery?

Our LAUP snoring surgery is performed by Consultant ENT Surgeon, Professor Yves Kamami, who is the inventor of the LAUP (Laser Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty) procedure. Over 40,000 LAUP procedures have been performed in the UK and is often featured in media such as The Times.

Many patients find that their snoring is reduced immediately following the procedure, but we recommend that you allow a healing period which can take up to 6 weeks. Unlike UPPP procedures, LAUP can be performed more than once to help patients get the best results.

How much is snoring surgery?

A consultation with our Ears Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon is £100.

Prices for our snoring treatments start from £1,980, depending on the type of treatment.

Is snoring surgery covered by insurance?

Generally, snoring surgery is not considered a medical problem and surgery to treat it is often classed as cosmetic, so it is not often covered by insurance.

At The Private Clinic we offer self-pay snoring surgery treatments to help improve your quality of sleep, allow you to breath easier and stop snoring. We also offer a selection of finance packages to suit all budgets.

We’re all ears!

June 28, 2016 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

We’re all ears here at The Private Clinic!

Ears are a prominent feature framing your face so to feel ashamed or uncomfortable about them is can have a big impact on your life. For some, although initially a problem, they come to live with it, but for others, it can start toear-drawing-the-private-clinic impact their emotional well-being and it’s then that many start to look for a solution.

There is the act of keeping your hair long to cover them, or wearing a hat to tuck them in but often this can leave you feeling trapped and unable to style or dress how you want in fear of drawing attention to the parts of your body that you dislike.

It could be a variety of things that are causing you to feel negatively about your ears including the size, shape or even the position of them. Large or protruding ears can affect confidence, while ears that sit far away from the head can be uncomfortable.

Otoplasty, also known as pinnaplasty or ear reshaping, is a surgical procedure that can resize, reshape, reposition and or hold back the ears.

This type of operation is usually performed at a young age from 5 years onwards but it is not uncommon for us to see patients looking to have this done in their adult years.

We are able to carry out our otoplasty procedures under general or local anaesthetic and you are usually able to go home the same day. During the surgery, the cartilage of the ear is exposed via an incision behind the ear, and as part of this incision, a small amount of skin is removed from this area. The cartilage of the ear is then shaped to recreate the fold required, and then stitches are put in place to hold the ear in its new position.

After the procedure is carried out dressing is then wrapped around your head to support the cartilage in its new place.

Despite this seeming like a low-key surgery, the recovery time can take up to 6 weeks, although you can generally return to work after 2 weeks.

But what if the issue is not down to the size, shape or position of your ear – but the lobe itself?

Split Earlobe Repair

Split Earlobe repair or reconstruction is a quick and simple procedure to correct split, ripped or torn earlobes. The technique used will depend on the condition of your lobes and the results you want to achieve. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and there’s no downtime involved so you will be able to return to your daily activities as soon as you’re ready.

Tribal Earlobe Repair

Tribal earlobe repair is a quick and simple procedure to correct earlobes that have been purposely stretched. Tribal ear piercing stems starts off as an original traditional ear piercing that is then stretched using a cone-shaped taper. The taper or large-sized tunnels are designed to deliberately stretch the piercing hole to allow larger pieces of jewellery to be worn. Many patients who come to see us had tribal ear piercings in their youth and are now looking to restore their earlobes back to their original state.

Are your earlobes holding you back?

November 17, 2015 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

In recent times, more and more people have been approaching plastic surgeons in order to have their earlobes reconstructed. As we age our earlobes expand and enlarge, plus, if you wear heavy earrings then they’re likely to stretch your lobes even further.

However, many of today’s young adults might face earlobe-related issues far earlier because they took up ear stretching as a fashion statement. A large number of alternative subcultures have appropriated the practice, which goes back to ancient times, to show individuality and to stand out from the rest of society.

Travie McCoy - ear piercing
Musician Travie McCoy, from Gym Class Heroes, was among some of the first mainstream celebrities to appear with stretched earlobes.

Changing fashions

Well, despite individualistic tendencies, some of you might experience a change in fashion, or decide that you want to pursue a career in a corporate environment.

When you stretch your ears, the diameter of the piercing is increased gradually, to eventually allow plugs or flesh tunnels to fit comfortably inside the lobe. Those of you who have taken up ‘tribal’ ear piercing know that on average, if you stretch your lobe beyond 1.5cm in diameter, then it won’t naturally go back to its original shape.

So if you remove your jewellery once you’ve passed that point, then your lobes will unfortunately look floppy and somewhat unappealing. If you have a short hairstyle it’s particularly difficult to hide them.

This image from The Guardian shows an earlobe with a flesh tunnel next to one without.

Some professions won’t put much weight on your appearance and some employers will be more liberal than others. However, The Guardian has revealed that there are roles, which will see potential employees at a disadvantage at interviews because of the state of their earlobes.

Whether we like it or not, employers will often want their staff to present themselves in a certain way. People can be biased towards people with gauged earlobes and it’s a regrettably your over-stretched ears might be fiddling with your job prospects.

Moreover, if you’ve been thinking of joining the armed forces, your lobes might also manifest as an obstacle. If they’re stretched beyond 2cm then you might not be allowed to start basic training until you’ve had them stitched up.

Fortunately having your earlobes repaired is usually a straightforward procedure that can be done in about an hour.

What does an Earlobe Reconstruction involve?

Different techniques can be used depending on the state of your lobe. If you have a smaller diameter then all that may be required is a few stitches. On the other hand, if your lobes are of a larger persuasion, then it might be necessary to trim them before reshaping them.

The price of such a repair will vary depending on the complexity of the repair, the extent of damage and the amount of scar tissue involved. A surgeon’s approach will also be affected by whether you plan on piercing your ears in future. As such, prices will usually start at £1,000.

Luckily it’s a very short procedure, lasting about 30 minutes per lobe and done under local anaesthetic. There’s no downtime involved, so once you’re done, that’s it and you’re free to go.
