How has Covid-19 impacted Cosmetic Surgery?

It is no surprise that the Covid-19 pandemic will change the way that cosmetic surgery procedures are delivered and how plastic surgeons amongst other medical professionals will be able to care for their patients and operate within socially distanced clinics.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently carried out a member survey and published their predictions for new industry trends ahead of clinic openings revealing what they believe to be the most sought-after procedures post-lockdown.
As imagined, phone call and video consultations have soared in popularity becoming the most common method of communication between surgeons and their patients. This is something we felt was important to offer to patients seeking procedures at The Private Clinic and will become the new first stage of consultations for the vast majority of our procedures for the foreseeable future.

What are the 2020 Top 5 Plastic Surgery Trend Predictions? *

Surgeons who are members of ASPS (The American Society of Plastic Surgeons) were able to give their predictions on what they believe to be the top 2020 procedure trends following what they have learned via virtual consultations and appointments with potential patients.

  1. Anti-Wrinkle Injections (65%)
  2. Breast Enlargement (44%)
  3. Dermal Fillers (37%)
  4. Liposuction (30%)
  5. Tummy Tuck/Abdominoplasty (24%)

*Data collected from American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)
We were not surprised to see non-surgical treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers in the top 5. Here in the UK we have spent over 100 days in lockdown and with the results of treatments like these only being temporary these are expected to be treatments that are much in demand.
Breast Augmentation and Tummy tuck surgery were previously listed as top treatments in the BAAPS Audit Results 2020 so seeing these in the top 5 were not a surprise either. Liposuction however was a new addition which may be reflecting patients concerns about any lockdown weight gain and lack of time spent in the gym.
Although these results are based on the surgeons and patients’ views in America. It has been reassuring to see a continued interest in plastic surgery procedures and we imagine the results would not be too dissimilar if the survey were carried out in the UK.
We hope that we will be able to continue patient’s confidence in choosing our clinic and are happy to detail the measures that we have taken thus far to secure your safety when our clinics re-open.
