#LiveClinicSession

Ask Dr. Kouremada Zioga: Live Twitter Hair Transplant Q&A

November 21, 2012 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Earlier this week we hosted a live Twitter Q&A session with our Hair Transplant surgeon, on all things hair transplant related.

During the hour-long session, our followers, from across social channels, sent in their hair loss, balding, hair transplant and treatment questions. Our #AskDr topic was trending, thanks to the amount of hair loss and hair transplant information exchanged during our session.

Dr. is a highly experienced surgeon, having performed over 2,000 hair transplant procedures to date, for both men and women. She is one of the few doctors able to carry our hair restoration treatments for patients with afro-Caribbean hair. She is also specialised in reparative procedures, treating scars caused by the traditional Strip procedure, or FUT.

For those who missed the Twitter session, we have included the full transcript below.

Please note: There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution when it comes to hair loss and hair transplants. Every patient is assessed individually when they visit us at the Clinic. Dr Kouremada Zioga’s answers below are a general guideline to hair loss and hair transplant procedures, however we will be able to offer a more concise analysis during a consultation.

Introductory Tweets

Hello there, it’s Dr @thomykouremada here. I will be answering your hair related questions today for the next hour #AskDrZioga

If you have a question, tweet in using the hashtag #AskDrZioga and I will be happy to help. Thanks!

Questions:

Ok, here is the first question… #AskDrZioga

[email protected] asks: After seeing pictures of Wayne Rooney’s transplant, I was wondering if it hurt? #AskDrZioga

A: No @PRinLondon, the transplant is pain-free. There are a few additional techniques that I… #AskDrZioga

A:…have perfected to ensure that it is as painless as possible #AskDrZioga

—

[email protected] asks: You know when you have a hair transplant, is it a one off? #AskDrZioga

A: It depends if the hair loss is stable or not, the density the patient wants to achieve and the size of the area treated. #AskDrZioga

—

[email protected] asks: I have curly hair, if I got a transplant, can I curl the hair? #AskDrZioga

A: As it is your own hair implanted into the problem area, it will grow the same as your pre-existing hair #AskDrZioga

—

Saragi on Facebook asks: could I have a hair transplant without taking finasteride before? #AskDrZioga

A: I prescribe Finesteride only when necessary to prevent further hair loss #AskDrZioga

A: It is possible to have a transplant without taking Finasteride prior to the procedure #AskDrZioga

—

Andy by email asks: How long does it take for a hair transplant to look like my hair? #AskDrZioga

A: For final hair growth, you will need to wait approx. 1 year. From the time of the procedure implanted hair will look natural #AskDrZioga

—

Fifi asks: I’ve read it’s normal to lose hair after pregnancy…13 months after and I’m still losing lots… #AskDrZioga

Fifi: …I’ve got regrowth coming but it’s still huge amounts coming out when I wash my hair or brush it! #AskDrZioga

Fifi: …When will it stop and do you seek treatments? #AskDrZioga

A: Many women suffer hair loss after pregnancy, most of the time it has to do with other factors (not permanent) such as…#AskDrZioga

A:..stress or anaemia. I advise that you get your blood tested for anaemia and iron deficiency etc #AskDrZioga

A:… if blood tests are ok, why not come and visit us for a consultation? #AskDrZioga

—

DD by email: After a hair transplant, will my hair look like it used to? How long until I see results? #AskDrZioga

A: You will see full results in a year. The hairline will look 100% natural and will suit your age progressions. #AskDrZioga

—

We are now half way through the Q&A, if you have a hair related question, let us know! #AskDrZioga

—

.CareForYourHair: What have you found the most common cause of hair loss among women? Especially those that are Afro-Caribbean? #AskDrZioga

A: The most common cause is traction alopecia in women with afro-carribean hair. The way that they style their hair weaves.. #AskDrZioga

A:…cornrows, braids etc, pulls on the hair and can lead to permanent hair loss #AskDrZioga

—

[email protected] Are there any words of advice to avoid hair loss before it gets to the serious stage of needing a transplant? #AskDrZioga

A: To slow the rate of hair loss, I advise you use minoxidill and/or Finasteride, 1mg per day (only for men)… #AskDrZioga

A:…Please consult with your doctor first #AskDrZioga

—

[email protected] asks: Can anyone get a transplant or is there a criteria? #AskDrZioga

A: It depends mainly on the donor area, in some cases we can use body hair… #AskDrZioga

A:…Every patient is treated on a case by case basis. Not everyone is a good candidate. #AskDrZioga

—

[email protected] asks: How long do the transplants take? #AskDrZioga

A: The length of a transplant depends on the number of hairs required. Typically my procedures last 2-6 hours per day. #AskDrZioga

—

[email protected] asks: Are there any side effects? How traumatic is this procedure on the rest of the body? #AskDrZioga

A:Side effects: Light swelling, bruising, infection etc, is very rare for my procedures. It is a minimally invasive procedure… #AskDrZioga

A:..My procedure micro-FUE is a minimally invasive procedure, with no down time or required recovery time #AskDrZioga

—

[email protected] asks: Are the results consistent over different ethnicities and hair types? #AskDrZioga

A: The result will mainly depend on the person and not the type of hair #AskDrZioga

—

Laura on Facebook asks: How do you get your hair to grow long? #AskDrZioga

A: Each person has their own rate of hair growth. Vitamin E helps and it is very important to use a good chemical free shampoo #AskDrZioga

—

[email protected]__blog: are double hair whorls on the crown an early sign of hair loss/thinning? #AskDrZioga

A: No it is not a sign #AskDrZioga

—

Closing the Session

Sadly that is all we have time for today. Thanks so much for all of your questions! #AskDrZioga

Live Clinic Session: Hand Rejuvenation with Fat Transfer

October 26, 2012 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Earlier this week, Dr Wolf conducted a live Hand Rejuvenation (with fat transfer) procedure at our Knightsbridge Clinic, which we documented live on our Twitter feed.

Using the hashtag #LiveClinicSession, Twitter users were able to follow Dr.Wolf as he carried out the procedure on patient, Rosetta, removing fat from Rosetta’s right thigh and re-injecting it into her hands.

For those of you who missed the Live Clinic Session, you can read the full transcript, which includes every step of the treatment from start to finish, below:

#LiveClinicSession: Hand Rejuvenation with Fat Transfer Procedure

Good afternoon! Today we’ll be documenting a live Hand Rejuvenation (with Fat Transfer) Keep your eyes peeled for updates! #LiveClinicSession

Vaser practitioner, Dr.Wolf, will be performing a live Hand Rejuvenation (with Fat Transfer) on our patient, Rosetta today #LiveClinicSession

Rosetta works in the jewellery industry, part of her job is trying on jewellery & she is self conscious about her hands #LiveClinicSession

Rosetta tells us that she would like the veins in her hand concealed and to achieve an overall more youthful appearance #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf will first be harvesting fat from Rosetta’s right thigh, which will then be transferred into Rosetta’s hands #LiveClinicSession

A before photo of Rosetta’s hands #LiveClinicSession

The Private Clinic:Hand Rejuvenation

In prep for today, Rosetta has undertaken a 3 week anti-inflammatory diet plan, to help minimise bruising post procedure #LiveClinicSession

The Treatment

Numbing the areas

Part 1 – Dr Wolf first outlines the areas on the right thigh and hands that he will be working on today #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf outlining the areas #LiveClinicSession

Part 2 – Anesthetic. Nurse Margaret helps to ensure Rosetta’s comfort first http://twitpic.com/b6fpxs #LiveClinicSessiDr Wolf will first anaesthetise Rosetta’s thigh before taking a fat sample from her right thigh #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf warns that the anesthetic may sting a little and asks Rosetta how she feels #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf numbing Rosetta’s thigh http://twitpic.com/b6fs3e #LiveClinicSession

Rosetta tells us that the anesthetic feels uncomfortable – not painful. She says it is a 4/10 in terms of discomfort #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf sterilises Rosetta’s hand – Dr Wolf calls this an ‘Essex Tan’ as he uses iodine which is orange in colour http://twitpic.com/b6fvjj  #LiveClinicSession

While the thigh is left to numb, Dr Wolf injects local anesthetic into Rosetta’s hands #LiveClinicSession

Local anesthetic has been injected into Rosetta’s hands: ‘feels like a pinch’ #LiveClinicSession

Harvesting the fat

Part 3 –Fat Harvesting. Dr Wolf next takes a sample of fat from the right thigh  http://twitpic.com/b6fz86 #LiveClinicSession

We ask Rosetta if she can feel anything, she responds ‘is he even touching me?’ #LiveClinicSession

Rosetta now tells us that she can feel a very light ‘tapping’ #LiveClinicSession

Purifying the fat

Step 4 – Purifying the fat #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf will purify the fat in preparation for it to be re-injected into Rosetta’s hands #LiveClinicSession

Fat before it is separated from the fluid http://twitpic.com/b6g50t #LiveClinicSession

Centrifugal force is used to purify the fat. The speed separates the fat from fluid so what is left is ‘nice clean fat’ #LiveClinicSession

The samples are placed in a centrifugal purifier machine for 3 minutes http://twitpic.com/b6g6sr #LiveClinicSession

Fat after is has been separated from fluid http://twitpic.com/b6g7ll – see the layer on top like oil? #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf now puts each sample of fat together ready for it to be re-injected http://twitpic.com/b6g9xw #LiveClinicSession

Fat grafting

Step 4 – Fat grafting. The fat is now being re-injected into Rosetta’s hands to plump up the skin #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf infiltrating the left hand first http://twitpic.com/b6gbbv #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf uses a cannula to insert the fat, this makes it safer so not to pierce a vein or other important structures #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf tells us that he goes by eye to determine how much fat will be needed in each hand #LiveClinicSession

Rosetta tells us that she cannot feel a thing #LiveClinicSession

The left hand is now finished and the difference is clear to see already! http://twitpic.com/b6geuo #LiveClinicSession

The Private Clinic: Hand Rejuvenation

Dr Wolf begins to insert fat into the right hand http://twitpic.com/b6gfp5 #LiveClinicSession

We ask Rosetta if she will be resting her hands tonight, she jokes ‘no, I have to cook the dinner when I get home!’ #LiveClinicSession

Rosetta’s hands post fat transfer http://twitpic.com/b6gjq4 #LiveClinicSession

Post Treatment

1.5 hours later and Rosetta’s treatment is now complete #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf tells Rosetta that she can expect swollen hands for 24/48 hrs, but she will still have full movement #LiveClinicSession

Rosetta must be very careful over the next two days as not to dent the fat, she must avoid applying pressure #LiveClinicSession

Dr Wolf is currently cleaning up Rosetta’s hands with sterile gauze and covering over the insertion holes with steri strips #LiveClinicSession

Rosetta thanks Dr Wolf and looks ecstatic about the already showing results! #LiveClinicSession

Thanks for following today’s #LiveClinicSession! If you have any questions for either Dr Wolf or Rosetta, be sure to let us know!

As part of the procedure aftercare, Rosetta visited Dr Wolf at the Clinic 48 hours after the procedure had taken place for her follow up appointment. Rosetta was delighted with the results and happy to show off her hands for photographs –  as you can see below!

Watch a video of the procedure take place here.

If you have any additional questions for Dr.Wolf or our patient Rosetta, please post them on our Facebook and Twitter page and we will pass these on.
