Tahir Hussain

In the March 2021 edition of Tatler magazine, our leading Consultant Vascular Surgeon Tahir Hussain has been named as a Top Doctor in Tatler’s latest Beauty and Cosmetic Surgery Guide. This hotly anticipated annual guide details the best practitioners, clinics and treatments in the cosmetic industry, and now features Mr Tahir Hussain and his minimally invasive vein treatments at The Private Clinic.

As an award-winning vascular surgeon with over 10 years of experience, he specialises in all aspects of venous health and care. In the March edition of Tatler, he also talks about “VenaSeal, an innovative ‘glueing’ technique” for targeting and removing varicose veins at The Private Clinic.

In the article, he explains how varicose veins are caused by a variety of factors, from excess weight and genetics to pregnancy. In varicose vein cases, valves inside the vein walls are defective, leading to veins “bulging and swelling” as a result. But by using the VenaSeal glue treatment, we can stop the blood from “pooling and swelling” inside the vein canals by directly targeting and shrinking the affected vein.

Tahir explains how a small incision is made in the affected area during the procedure once a local anaesthetic is administered. After this, a “catheter is inserted into the vein and pushed towards the groin. Once inside, an adhesive ‘glue’ is then dispersed at multiple points, effectively sealing the cavity and rendering the vein redundant.”

This minimally invasive treatment allows treated patients to leave the clinic on the same day of the operation. When it comes to downtime, there is “barely any – in fact, you’ll positively skip out of the clinic.” Patients just need to minimise any rigorous physical activity for 4 to 5 days while keeping the incision site dry.

Patients may experience some bruising for up to two weeks after the VenaSeal procedure, but once this fades, they will be free to enjoy the improved visual results. Tahir explains: “In just over an hour, legs are instantly smoother with veins vanquished. Better still, the dreaded post-procedure stockings aren’t required – so you don’t have to wait for a winter sign-up.”
