Tatler’s Beauty & Cosmetic Surgery Guide 2019

New Entry
Constantinos Kyriakides

Cyprus born, Havard-educated Kyriakides is a dashing fellow and wide beyond his 16 years of consulting. ‘Technology is going so fast, you have to keep up with it,’ he says. ‘Surgeons need to be able to absorb new methods of thinking and to consider new ways of solving problems.’ His work runs the spectrum from gritty  (‘how to stop somebody from experiencing a stroke, losing a leg or having an aneurysm’) to the cosmetic (‘essentially making the legs look more beautiful’). When faced with varicose veins, his go-to is endovenous laser therapy (a pencil-thin laser in inserted into the vein, then activated to destroy the vein wall). Genetics account for our susceptibility to varicose veins, he admits (if ‘both of your parents have them, you have a 90 per cent chance’), but thinning skin can exacerbate their appearance. If bulging backs-of-hands bother you, he might refer you for fat transfer – ‘many prefer it over filler’ – but cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) also helps. ‘After all, some people are obsessed with veins and want to do everything, but you have to manage them. Otherwise, you’ll never have a happy customer.
