Varicose Veins – Dionne
Home » Patient Stories »
Dionne visited us at The Private Clinic to get advice on her suspected Varicose Veins. Growing up, she remembers her mother complaining about her own veins and now she was starting to notice similar-looking veins developing in almost the exact same place on her legs.
Initially, Dionne put off seeking treatment for her veins, she was not keen on needles or hospitals but she began to notice the discomfort by the end of the day and was consciously choosing to avoid wearing shorts or dresses to avoid showing them.
She soon realised she needed some help from the experts, and did research which led her to The Private Clinic on London’s Harley Street.
“Finally, after years of ignoring the problem, I realised I needed expert help—and that’s when, after extensive research, I found Mr Hussain, a consultant general and vascular surgeon who works at The Private Clinic. The Harley Street clinic stood out for its exceptional reputation in varicose vein treatment and patient care.”
After a thorough consultation with Mr Tahir Hussain which included a Duplex Ultrasound scan, Dionne’s Varicose Vein fears were confirmed and possible treatment options were discussed. Dionne decided to go ahead with her procedure and has told her story in her recent article.
“Booking the procedure wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was about reclaiming my comfort and confidence. It was time to take on the world without dragging my legs behind me (literally).”
On the day of her Varicose Vein treatment, Dionne was feeling nervous but ready. She was planned to have a combined Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) and Phlebectomy procedure, both minimally invasive and performed under local anaesthetic with no need for an overnight stay.
“Mr Hussain’s calm and professional approach immediately reassured me, and his thorough explanations made the entire process far less daunting.”
The procedure took around 30 minutes, and then her leg was bandaged and she was ready to leave.
Dionne’s recovery was smooth, within a week she was able to take the bandage off and wear a compression stocking for another two weeks. She could return to her everyday activities quickly and found her leg feeling lighter already.
“Despite the dramatic-looking bruising, I went about my day as usual, walking and marvelling at how light my leg felt. The leg exercises I usually found difficult in my Pilates workouts felt easier, and even walking felt like an entirely new experience. I couldn’t believe this was how everyone else always felt!”
Dionne expressed her joy in performing her pilates workouts with more ease and wearing outfits she had previously avoided without worrying about the appearance of her legs.
Returning for her follow-up appointment with Mr Hussain, Dionne expressed how the procedure had not only resolved her discomfort but also given her back her confidence and overall quality of life.
“As someone with health anxiety, the thoroughness of The Private Clinic stood out. The team spent time with me after the procedure, explaining every detail and reassuring me that I could call them 24/7 with any concerns. This care made all the difference in my experience. Looking back, I only wish I’d done this sooner, My leg not only looked better but felt lighter, freer, and stronger than ever before. My confidence has returned, and daily activities that once felt like a struggle are now pain-free. If you’re considering varicose vein removal, my advice is simple: don’t wait. You deserve to feel comfortable in your own skin.”
