COSMETIC clinics are reporting a rise in “silver surgery” with more people aged 60-plus going under the knife to improve their looks.

UK chain The Private Clinic confirmed a surge in the number of older patients following the lead of Cher, 67, Robert Redford, 77, and 68-year-old Dolly Parton, who once said: “If I see something sagging, bagging and dragging, I’m going to nip it, suck it and tuck it.”

Last year the clinic saw a 30 per cent increase in clients over 60, compared with the previous year.

Hair transplants were up by 23 per cent among the age group, making the procedure one of the most popular with mature patients.

Graham Satchwell, 64, a former police superintendent, of Grateley, Hampshire, said: “I have always been keen on health and fitness and my appearance is part of that.

“People treat older people differently and I wanted to do this for myself.”
