No matter how much you diet or exercise, there can be some body areas left with stubborn pockets of excess fat that just won’t shift. Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific body areas, leaving a much more defined shape. The surgical liposuction procedure is also known as liposculpture or suction-assisted lipectomy. It is frequently combined with an Abdominoplasty procedure, or Tummy Tuck, which helps to remove the excess skin and tissue for a complete body sculpting procedure.
The Private Clinic are experts in liposuction for both men and women. We have carried out over 7,000 lipo procedures and more procedures than any other clinic in the UK. Our expertise lies in the way we consult, advising you on the best option for you, which could be Vaser liposuction, traditional liposuction, hi-def liposuction or micro liposuction. We do not just offer one liposuction method. No other clinic in the UK is able to do this.
Despite diet or exercise, there can be some parts of the body such as thighs, stomach/tummy, hips, love handles, arms and bottom/buttocks that leave stubborn pockets of excess fat that do not go away. Finding a way to get your body back doesn’t have to be impossible, thanks to procedures like liposuction.
The Liposuction Procedure
Liposuction involves sucking out small areas of fat, often with a micro cannula which is a small device to remove fat. The treatment can be performed on any area of the body – buttocks, hips, thighs, abdomen/ stomach, chin, upper arms, breasts or knees – provided that the candidate is suitable for treatment. Liposuction is not an alternative to dieting and exercise and may not be suitable for candidates wanting to lose excess weight.
The procedure can take between 1 and 3 hours, depending on the number of areas being treated. Some patients are day cases while others may be required to stay in hospital overnight for monitoring.
Once the swelling has gone down during the recovery period, you will be able to fully appreciate the stellar results our medical team afford our patients.
Liposuction, depending on the patient and the extent of the procedure, will require different variations of downtime. Overall exercise and strenuous activity will need to be avoided for several weeks after your procedure but the majority of patients are able to return to work in 1-2 weeks depending on their role. Generally we say to allow 10 days to relax and take it easy as bruising and swelling is likely to occur during this period.
Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck and Liposuction Combination
At times, the problem may not only be excess fat. Your skin may have lost its elasticity due to sudden weight loss, or even pregnancy. If this is the case, the best possible solution for you may be a combined Abdominoplasty and Liposuction procedure, during which excess stomach fat and skin are removed, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
It forms part of the now famous ‘Mummy Makeover‘ and is a popular combination procedure for people of all ages.

VASER Lipo vs Liposuction
Here at The Private Clinic, we offer both VASER Liposuction, and traditional Liposuction. VASER Lipo is a minimally invasive body contouring procedure aimed at removing stubborn fat pockets from problematic body areas that are disproportionate to the rest of your body. The VASER technology initially targets and breaks down small pockets of fat, which are then removed using small cannulas and suction, without affecting surrounding tissue. Find out more about VASER Lipo here. Our Doctors perform close to 2000 liposuction treatments a year.
Advantages of VASER Lipo
- It is a minimally invasive procedure.
- It is a walk-in walk-out procedure.
- No overnight hospital stay required.
- No general anaesthetic required.
Advantages of Surgical Liposuction
For the right patient, liposuction offers the best procedure for the kind of results required. For instance, larger patients may not be suitable for VASER Lipo. As we offer both procedures, our medical team are able to offer you the balanced advice you need in order to make the best-informed decision possible.
The ideal candidate for liposuction should be of average weight, with firm, elastic skin who has pockets of excess fat in certain areas. It is also key to come in with realistic expectations.
Although liposuction can often provide very substantial improvements, it is not a weight-loss technique, or a solution for obesity. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite. Ideally, any treatment should be viewed as a compliment to regular exercise and good diet, and not the replacement of a healthy lifestyle.
Micro Lipo gets its name from the tiny size of the cannulas used to extract the fat, 0.9mm wide to 3mm. The technique can remove up to 3.5 litres of fat which makes it a great option for those wanting to target specific areas such as bingo wings/ arm fat, double Chin fat removal, inner thighs and knees. See our micro lipo before and after photo gallery.
The best option is to book a liposuction consultation. This ensures our experts advise you the right type of liposuction for your shape and body area.
