A 2-stage procedure is when your surgical procedure is performed in 2 stages which means two separate operations or procedures.
It is common for a breast lift and enlargement to be performed as a 2-stage procedure. This is because two different objectives are trying to be achieved. A breast lift often involves reducing breast skin to lift the areola and nipple to sit higher on the chest. An enlargement or augmentation procedure involves adding an implant to the breast which stretches out the breast skin and adds additional volume.
When you combine these two procedures, it can cause excess stress on the scar and in some cases affect the lifting and shaping effect so the result may not be as uplifted as you may have hoped for.
If performed as a 2-stage procedure, the breast lift will be performed first and then around 6-12 months later a breast enlargement will be performed.
