How to get rid of dark circles with the use of Dermal Fillers

August 8, 2016 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

The dreaded dark circles. You have done your make-up, your hair and have your best outfit on but the only thing you can focus on is those shadows underneath your eyes.

Your heart sinks – you look tired, drained – even ill! But don’t give up hope just yet! – We can treat those pesky dark circles with tear trough filler.

What causes dark circles?

When we say dark circles, what we are really referring to is dark shadows. The skin itself isn’t the problem it as it is not actually discoloured. The area in which a dark circle appears looks dark because of the way the light falls on the hollow areas under the eyes.

This occurs often due to genetics although it can also be a case of tear trough deformity which is when there’s naturally a deep groove between the lower eyelid and the upper cheek. Other causes are through fat loss and thinning of the skin over time, these can both leave you looking constantly tired, even if you are feeling the complete opposite.

In some cases the dark circles you think you have are not actually ‘dark circles’ in the technical sense but are instead discoloured areas. This is when there is darkness is the skin rather than a shadow. This is caused by pigmentation which generally tends to affect darker skin, however it can also be caused by problems with the nose or sinuses such as deviated septum or allergies.

As long as your dark under eyes are caused by hollowness, rather than allergies or pigmentation, it can be treated very effectively with filler.

How does tear trough filler work?

Tear trough filler is quite a simple treatment, though it needs an expert hand to get it right so make sure you do your research first when selecting your practitioner.

The area under the eyes is assessed before treatment and your nurse or doctor will advise you on whether this is an effective treatment for you.

tear trough filler skin clinics the private clinic

Dermal filler gel is very carefully injected, either directly into the depression or just beneath it, to increase volume and plump up the area whilst smoothing the contours between eyes and cheeks.

You will notice an immediate improvement from the filler straight after treatment but remember that your final results will not be seen until any swelling has gone down.

How long does tear trough filler last?

Tear trough filler can last up to a year or longer although this will depend on the filler used which can be discussed with your practitioner.

What are the risks of tear trough filler?

All treatments carry an element of risks so it is good practice to be aware of them before you decide to go ahead with treatment although they will also be discussed during your consultation.

Tear trough fillers risks and side effects are rare but they can include swelling, mild bruising and uneven or lumpy results.

Bruising and swelling will reduce in time, and any persistent lumpiness that you notice can be easily rectified with massage or, if necessary, with the use of hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler.

Does tear trough filler hurt?

When it comes to having fillers you will generally have local anaesthetic cream applied to the areas before the treatment so although you may feel some mild pressure and movement the cream will make it virtually painless.

How long does tear trough filler take?

The time taken for treatment will vary between patient and practitioner. Usually patients are pleasantly surprised at how quick it is with some treatments taking as little 10 minutes.

How much does Dermal Fillers cost?

As well as tear trough filler, we also perform lip filler, cheek filler, chin filler and non-surgical nose job filler.

Prices start from around £250 at The Private Clinic for Dermal Fillers. Most of our dermal fillers are between £250-400.

Celebrity Skincare Favourites

April 25, 2016 by Rebecca Giffen Leave a Comment

Looking at social media you can’t miss the many celebrities flaunting their selfies  – with flawless skin and forever youthful appearances, it may leave you feeling slightly deflated! But more often than not their perfected skin is all down to a simple treatment or routine which you don’t need a big celebrity budget to afford.

We are going to share our top celebrity favourites;

Microneedling

The microneedling treatment’s popularity is steadily increasing with many people realising that sometimes beauty needs to come with a little bit of pain! One version of microneedling is known as a dermaroller treatment, a genuine dermaroller is a medical roller with hundreds of micro-skin needles all over. The roller is then passed over the skin causing small punctures to the surface of your skin.

Another version of microneedling treatment is known as Dermapen which is small medical device that looks like a pen which has a pattern of needles which move vertically back and forth as the pen is passed over the face.

A dermaroller or dermapen treatment can help improve; fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damaged skin, uneven skin tone and stretch marks to name a few.

The treatment stimulates your skin encouraging it to produce more collagen which then leaves your skin looking smoother and brighter.

Jennifer Anniston and Ellen De Generes are reported to be big fans of the treatment and Jessica Hayes from ITV’s Love Island has posted snaps of her receiving the treatment on social media.

Microneedling Treatment is offered at our London Harley Street,  Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Northampton  and Buckinghamshire clinics.

Dermal Fillers

Have they? Haven’t they? Dermal Fillers are a common discussion point alongside Botox when talking about celebrity treatments.

Dermal fillers are used to introduce volume back into areas of the face that have lost volume during the ageing process. You will have probably heard of Dermal Fillers being used in the lips with celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Charlotte Crosby admitting to having the treatment. But Dermal Filler is also used all over the face including chin, cheeks, tear troughs and even your nose.

Michelle Heaton for example has had dermal fillers in her under-eye area, cheeks, nose-to-mouth lines and jawline after her mastectomy and hysterectomy brought on the early menopause which she felt left her with a gaunt face.

Dermal Fillers are offered at our London Harley Street, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow, Northampton and Buckinghamshire clinics.

Laser Treatments

You may have noticed that a lot of celebrities these days are claiming that laser treatments are the reason for their refreshingly youthful looks and clear skin. Compared to fillers and wrinkle relaxing injections, laser treatments are another celeb skincare favourite that they are happy to admit too. Gwyneth Paltrow is a huge advocate for the Thermage treatment which is a non-invasive procedure that helps tighten and contour your skin. Denise Richards is also a laser treatment fan, admitting to having IPL Photorejuvenation treatment which is effective in smoothing out the tone and texture of your skin as well as helping to treat Rosacea, age spots, sun damage/spots, and general skin tone irregularities.

“I would do it again, because I feel like it took 5 years off my face” – Gwyneth Paltrow

Theramage Treatment is offered at our London Harley Street clinic.

IPL Photorejuvenation Treatment is offered at our London Harley Street, Bristol, Leeds and Manchester clinics.

Microdermabrasion

A microdermabrasion facial is a perfect first treatment for someone who has never has a cosmetic treatment before. It is a mild resurfacing treatment that is ideal for all skin types. It removes the outermost layer of the skin whilst stimulating the underlying epidermis that promotes collagen and elastin.

It is a great way to keep your skin in tip top condition all year round if you have regular treatments. You can also combine a microdermabrasion with other treatments such as a chemical peel to really boost the condition of your skin.

The treatment itself is very quick, pain free and there is generally no down-time – straight back to work after it, perfect for celebrities and their busy schedules such as Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford who has admitted to having treatments before.

“I’ve been getting microdermabrasion facials for 13 years, and that’s been great for my skin.” – Cindy Crawford

Microdermabrasion is offered at our London Harley Street, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester and Northampton clinics.

Chemical Peel

A chemical peel treatment written down sounds horrendous! But don’t worry, only the good types of chemicals are used which aim to revitalise your skin. A chemical peel can be used to treat a number of problems, including sun damage, acne scarring, hyper pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, and tired looking skin.

The downtime can be a long one, so not one to have if you have a busy weekend planned. This does depend on the peel used however; the TCA peel makes the skin  tighten, darken and then peel over the course of 5-7 days. A gentler peel can give you some initial redness which will settle over just a few hours for most people, so you could go back to work and no one would know.

It is reported that Madonna likes to have her chemical peels based on glycerol acid, which result in baby-soft new skin.

Of course, if you are not quite ready to start treatment then one of the best celebrity tips for keeping your skin in good condition, and one that we are a huge advocate of is the use of sun cream everyday. Protecting your face from UV rays is your best way of delaying the effects of ageing including wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Wearing suncream or even a SPF moisturiser 365 days a year, rain or shine, inside or outside is one small step that you can take to achieve healthier looking skin.

Chemical Peels are offered at our London Harley Street, Birmingham, Bristol, Northampton, Manchester, Leeds and Buckinghamshire clinics.

Crossing the Vermillion Border with Juvederm’s VOLBELLA

March 8, 2016 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Juvederm became somewhat of a household name for beauty aficionados after Kylie Jenner revealed that she uses the brand’s Dermal Fillers to plump up her lips. Specifically, the brand’s VYCROSS range (which includes products such as Juvederm VOLUMA and Juvederm VOLIFT ) is currently considered as being top of the line, but keeping in mind the current trend for Lip Augmentation, we’d like to highlight one product in particular: Juvederm VOLBELLA.

vycross product range

The VYCROSS line was designed to specifically target certain areas of the face, with VOLBELLA being intended for adding volume to the lips. The science behind these Dermal Fillers is what sets them apart, and is why VOLBELLA can be considered as one of the best Lip Fillers around.

What is VOLBELLA made of?

Like most high-quality Dermal Fillers, VOLBELLA is made out of a kind of carbohydrate fluid, commonly found in the eyes and joints, known as Hyaluronic Acid.

It acts as a cushion and lubricant that is constantly broken down and replaced by the body. As time goes by its effects fade, but that’s an advantage when it’s used for cosmetic purposes, as it allows for customisation and doesn’t restrict a patient’s options permanently.

What sets VOLBELLA apart other Lip Fillers?

The patented technology used to make VOLBELLA is wherein the genius of the product lies. It all comes down to how the Hyaluronic Acid is produced, which in this case required tweaks to be made at a molecular level, in order to alter the weight and consistency of the gel.

In doing so, your practitioner gains greater control over the injecting process, which is made smoother since the gel is easier to push through the syringe, and flows more steadily. Thanks to this, there is far less discomfort for the patient, and because VOLBELLA is so moldable, it becomes simpler to contour the lips and achieve natural looking results.

Before and after Lip Fillers at The Private Clinic, Bristol

While other brands will have fillers made with 100% high molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid, VOLBELLA only uses 10% of the latter and 90% of its low molecular weight counterpart. By ensuring that the gel properties of the VOLBELLA filler are optimised to such an extent, the risk of lumps and bumps is minimised, along with the potential for bruising, or swelling.

The best part is that the effects of this generation of fillers last longer – with our patients reporting results that have spanned over 12 to 18 months.

Dermal Fillers at The Private Clinic

Dermal Fillers are useful cosmetic tools for those who prefer minimally invasive cosmetic treatments, but their application isn’t regulated, so we advise all our patients to only trust medical professionals to perform such treatments. Nurse Prescribers and Aesthetic Doctors are experts in their field and you can expect them to give advice you on the most suitable treatments for your desired results.

The Private Clinic, Glasgow: Treatments

January 7, 2016 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

This might be our furthermost clinic, but it’s a cultural hub full of life, art and beautiful architecture that’s reminiscent of London, where our first clinic was established. Since Glasgow has so much to offer, we’ve selected a range of treatments that we hope will help alleviate the pressures of daily life (and the weather!), as well as to make you feel as stunning as the city’s nighttime skyline.

We have over 35 years of experience in minimally invasive cosmetic treatments behind us and pride ourselves in pioneering treatments that have been proven to deliver effective results. Our careful selection process means that we have some of the most renowned and trustworthy industry experts working with us, meaning that you’re sure to be given honest and dependable advice, without any obligation.

There’s a range of walk-in-walk-out treatments that don’t require any general anaesthetic, with some of them being completely exclusive to our Glasgow clinic.

FACE

Anti-Ageing and Rejuvenation: We’re proud to say that we have Scotland’s longest established cosmetic doctor working with us. Known to many as ‘Scotland’s Lip King’, Dr Simon Connolly MBChB. GMC Number: 3068292 has such an impressive resume and portfolio in aesthetic treatments that you’d be hard-pressed to find someone else with his amount of expertise anywhere else in the country.

He’s shared his vast knowledge with our team and together they are able to offer you world-class cosmetic treatments at our dermal filler clinic. Naturally, we’re a big hit when it comes to temporary Dermal Filler treatments, which see a natural acid – that can be produced by the body – injected into areas of the face to restore or volume to it These usually cost between £250-£400 but it’s best to call for definitive pricing. Current fashion trends have particularly seen a huge rise in fillers being used to plump up lips – and as you know by now, that’s what Dr Connolly’s known for. However, he also specialises in the 8 Point Lift (or Fluid Facelift), which is a non-surgical Facelift that involves filler injections at precise points of your face.

Before and after lip augmentation

Equally popular is the use of Wrinkle Relaxing Injections, and in an unregulated industry that has seen terrible cases of cheap, ‘back-room-Botox’, we’re able to offer you the highest standard of treatment for reasonable prices. These injections serve to hinder your muscles’ impulses and help them settle in order to smooth out any deep wrinkles or lines.

Depending on the extent of scarring and damage to your skin, we have three different treatments on offer to help with your skin tone and texture. First of all, there are Chemical Peels that act to clear your face of dead skin cells, giving way to an underlying, healthier and more youthful layer of skin. Then there’s IPL Photorejuvenation , which uses intense light technology to smooth out any discolouration and tone irregularities of your skin, with the added advantage of being customisable to different skin types.

Acne: Dr Connolly holds a degree in Dermatology, so he and his team can create a tailor-made course of treatments for you, designed to rid your skin of acne-causing bacteria. A combination of treatments, including products and peels, will be used to appease your acne and you’ll be advised on a sustainable home skin treatment routine to keep the acne from returning. You will also be able to get advice on acne scar removal treatment available at our Glasgow skin clinic.

CONSULTATIONS

As well as offering consultations for FUE Hair Transplants, you can also see us if you’re interested in one of our Plastic Surgery procedures, or one of our renowned minimally-invasive Liposuction treatments.

We have a Trustpilot 9.4, 5 star rating and 96% of patients would recommend us to their friends and family. We are also a multi award winning provider voted the Aesthetic award for Best UK Clinic Group 2017 and MyFaceMyBody Best Cosmetic Surgery Practice 2018.

Our Glasgow clinic is close to the centre of Glasgow easily commutable from the surrounding areas of; Glasgow city, Hillhead, Hyndland, Jordanhill, Kelvindale, Kelvinside, Knightswood, Shawlands, Milngavie, Bearsden, Newlands, Mount Florida, Strathbungo, Partick, Park District, Linthouse and Mansewood.

The Private Clinic Bristol: Treatments

September 4, 2015 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Recently, Bristol’s been getting a lot of attention because of Banksy’s Dismaland and the crowds have been coming in droves to visit. The temporary hustle and bustle might not be welcome by everyone though, so we thought we’d highlight a more permanent fixture, that’s there to offer you a professional and reliable environment all year round: The Private Clinic, Bristol.

Bristol

With over 35 years experience, we’re known world-wide as pioneers in minimally-invasive cosmetic treatments, and our Bristol clinic is a fantastic extension of our specialism.

The clinic offers a number of walk-in, walk-out procedures, with Skin Rejuvenation and Anti-Ageing treatment packages tailored to suit your needs and busy schedule.

FACE

Acne (N-Lite): Seen as one of the most advanced and effective treatments for battling the root cause of acne, the N-Lite treatment destroys acne-causing bacteria in the skin on the face and neck. The results are life-changing and can be seen after the first couple of treatments (single sessions start at £250). Patients who have been on antibiotics for years have been fully cured of their acne with our N-Lite treatment.

acnetreatmentStudents are the real winners with this one as we have a unique Student Offer which gives you a full course for £700 – that’s five sessions for the price of three!

Anti-ageing and Rejuvenation: We offer a vast array of treatments designed to help enhance your natural beauty and feel more confident.
We’ve got the standard injectables – wrinkle relaxing injections that block your muscles impulses and help them relax – smoothing out wrinkles and lines (with prices starting from £195 for one area), as well as temporary Dermal Fillers – that use a natural acid produced by our bodies – to plump up skin and restore volume to the face (most of our fillers cost between £250-£400).

Our 8 Point Lift technique uses a combination of injectables to replicate a lighter effect of a non-surgical facelift that offers immediate results and no downtime (this tends to cost around £1,200).

While we’re on acids, you can opt for a chemical peel to remove dead skin cells from your face, smoothing out your skin’s tone and texture (mild peels start at £58).

There’s also dermaroller treatment which uses hundreds of micro-needles that strategically impact the skin and encourage its collagen production (pricing starts at £280 for individual sessions). The results are remarkable and extremely effective for smoothing out scarring and other skin texture problems.

To find out more about our skin treatments and injectables available in Bristol, book a consultation with one of our expert aesthetic nurse Katie Evans and indepent nurse prescribers, Lesley Dean RGN and Ann Hampson RGN

Finally we also stock impressive home-care products. They are able to cover all skin concerns thanks to its mixture of antioxidants, resurfacing and lightening factors, which allow it to cleanse, hydrate and protect your skin. Please make sure to get one of our free skin analysis consultations to choose the most suitable treatment or product available for your skin.

HAIR

Hair loss can cause many to feel unhappy with their appearance. There are a number of products on the market that claim to improve hair growth and many tricks can be used to create a fuller appearance to the hair but if you are experiencing hair loss, often the only permanent solution is a hair transplant procedure. We are able to offer FUE Hair Transplant consultation for procedures performed in-house with Hair Transplant surgeon, Dr Michael Mouzakis, GMC Number: 7237640.

BODY

Laser Hair Removal: Summer may be over but unwanted hair surfaces all year round, so we recommend considering a more permanent hair removal technique than repeated shaving, waxing or depilatory creams. Unwanted hair can be quite burdensome, for men and women alike, and patient’s most common regret is not having undergone treatment sooner. There’s no downtime and you’ll be hair-free after completing a full course (top-ups may be required to get rid of fine hairs). We cover all parts of the body but our back and chest removal treatments are particularly popular with men, whereas women often opt to have their lower legs done, as well as their underarm and upper lip areas (single the upper lip treatments start at £77, with a full course costing £300). It’s worth noting that our specialised staff are fully trained to work on darker skin, something that requires significant experience to prevent any burns.

VASER Liposuction: VASER liposuction is a minimally invasive, walk-in walk-out fat removal treatment that rids us of stubborn pockets of fat that seem ever-present despite taking up exercise and following a healthy diet. Different levels of definition can be achieved with VASER liposuction, and the downtime is minimal when compared to traditional forms of liposuction. VASER Hi-Def is often chosen by men because of the athletic, muscular results it can achieve, while our very own VASER Mid-Def tends to be preferred by women, as it gives a fit appearance with a more natural finish (prices start at £2,600). It’s not a weight-loss solution but the effects are permanent when combined with a healthy lifestyle.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical fat reduction treatment that uses a controlled cooling technique to freeze targeted areas of stubborn fat to freeze the fat cells which are then broken down and naturally removed from the body. The procedure is suitable for the chin, upper arms, bra fat, back, stomach, hips, thighs and buttocks and delivers natural gradual results with no downtime.

Ultherapy

Ultherapy is a non-invasive skin tightening treatment that is suitable for use on the face, neck, chin and eyebrows. The treatment uses micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation (MFU-V) energy which is able to treat depths of the skin not possible but other similar skin tightening cosmetic devices. This technique stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin to reverse the visible signs of ageing whilst significantly lifting layers of tissue which other lasers are not FDA cleared to perform. The results from Ultherapy are gradual and it can take 3-6 months to see the full results from treatment but the results from Ultherapy can last over a year.

We understand that choosing to have a cosmetic treatment done is a big decision so we have some financing options available to help you achieve your desired results. Which we can provide more information on following your consultation.

Anti-Ageing: Surgical Vs Non-Surgical

November 27, 2014 by dina.elbarbary Leave a Comment

Ageing happens to us all. It isn’t something to be ashamed of,  nor is it anything that we need to stop. However, if you find the effects of ageing are taking their toll on your confidence, you may be considering your cosmetic options.

Surgery is a huge consideration and should always be something you take extremely seriously. For some it is the best way to achieve the results they want but, for others, non-surgical solutions may be more suitable. We explain your options for different signs of ageing and some treatments you may want to consider.

Sagging or loss of volume in the face

Surgical: Last year the third most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the UK was the surgical Facelift. The treatment has been one of the most popular anti-ageing solutions for a lengthy period, and continues to grow with a 13% rise in the number of treatments performed between 2012 and 2013. Also known as a rhytidoplasty, Facelifts tighten skin around the face, jawline and neck to completely transform the face.

Non surgical: Over the past few years, specialists have pioneered several minimally-invasive alternatives to the Facelift, all of which have grown hugely in popularity. One of our most popular non-surgical face lifts is the Threadlift or Silhouette Lift which uses biodegradable sutures to lift sagging areas (pictured below).

Another favourite at The Private Clinic is the 8-Point Lift, which uses dermal fillers in 8 carefully pin-pointed positions of the face to lift and replump.

Loose or sagging eyelids

Surgical:The second most popular cosmetic surgery procedure last year, Blepharoplasty (or eyelid surgery) is often cited as a favourite of plastic surgeons. It is relatively quick (sometimes taking as little as 30 minutes) and much safer than many other surgical procedures. The results the treatment offers, however, are usually very impressive. It is the most effective procedure for those suffering from bags or sagging around the eyelid, and isn’t normally suitable for crow’s feet and fine lines – for these problems, non-surgical options are sometimes the better solution.

Non-Surgical: Fixing loose eyelids without surgery is perhaps more tricky than some other signs of ageing and there aren’t any procedures that stand out as alternatives. Depending on your individual case, wrinkle injections or a non-surgical facelift may be able to ease some areas, but only working closely with experts will help you discover if there is a solution for you.

Lines and wrinkles around the face

Surgical: Depending on where your lines and wrinkles are, you may be suitable for either a browlift or facelift. Also known as a browplasty, browlifts are used for deep lines and heavy brows. It involves tightening the muscles in the brow that have been stretched and reducing loose skin and excess fat in the area. Despite only lifting the forehead, the treatment can make a huge difference to the entire face.

Non-Surgical: Arguably the most well known cosmetic treatment in the world, wrinkle injections (or as most know them – Botox) are one of the best non-invasive solutions for wrinkles and lines around the face. The injections stop the nerve actions of the muscles that are causing the wrinkles, easing the area and preventing lines from appearing.

Another of the best solutions for wrinkles is dermal fillers, which are often used on areas that are lacking in volume. The treatment is non-invasive and normally only takes around 30 minutes, with most able to return to work or daily life straight after the treatment. For more information on the difference between wrinkle injections and fillers, click here.

Depending on the nature of your lines your specialist may suggest one of the non-surgical face lift options mentioned above for better results, but without consultation it will be difficult for them to say exactly what you need. Use your consultation time to go through all your options and the results you hope to achieve – your practitioner should be able to guide you accordingly to the best solution for you.
