A facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that lifts up and pulls back the skin on the face to result in a tighter and smoother appearance. It is very effective on patients who have sagging around the lower half of the face, jowls and neck.
Facelifts however are a big deal; patients who are looking to have a facelift will need to schedule a substantial amount of recovery time post procedure which is why many patients are now seeking non-surgical alternatives with less downtime in order to rejuvenate their appearance.
Of course, a chemical peel or laser treatment is never going to be able to replicate what a facelift can do but they are very effective at eliminating some of the signs of ageing and produce some impressive results.
One Stitch Facelift
Our ‘One Stitch Facelift’ is still a surgical procedure but we felt it was worth adding to this list. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and has very minimal recovery time in comparison to a standard surgical facelift. The one stitch facelift targets the mid-face helping to improve the jaw line. There is a very low risk of swelling and bruising and the incision is hidden within the hairline
The Temporal facelift is very similar in style to the one stitch facelift but this procedure concentrates on the eyebrows to the midface area so ideal if you are looking for an upper facial lift. The temporal facelift is performed under local anaesthetic and the short 5-6cm scar is hidden within the temporal hair line and patients have minimal downtime post procedure.
Both the Temporal and One Stitch Facelift can allow patients to get back to work in almost no time at all and were featured in Harper’s Bazaar’s Top Cosmetic Surgery Trends 2019.
Thermage CPT Skin tightening treatment is often referred to a ‘Non-surgical facelift’. The non-invasive procedure helps to tighten and contour your skin in just a single treatment making it ideal for those with busy lifestyles. The treatment works by stimulating your body’s natural renewal of collagen, which creates subtle, natural looking results targeting key areas such as loose jowls, sagging skin, jawline definition and wrinkles around the mouth and forehead. Thermage treatment targets the deeper layers of skin meaning that the downtime is minimal and many patients return to normal activities straight away.
Sounds like a dream? The downside to this treatment is that the results are unfortunately not instant. The majority of the tightening in the face will take place gradually over a period of time and the best results are seen usually after 6 months. The positive side of this however is that it does mean you will achieve gradual and natural looking results compared to a more dramatic change that a surgical procedure can achieve.
A thread lift is a minimally-invasive treatment that lifts sagging areas of the face without the need for sedation or a hospital stay. A thread lift procedure involves lifting different parts of the face using specialised threads without the need for surgical incisions. Common areas to be treated are sagging cheeks, deep lines and wrinkles, jowls, forehead wrinkles and jaw line definition. The benefit of a thread lift is instant and long lasting results, minimal downtime, an increase in natural collagen production and no stitches are required.
A PRP facelift, despite the name, is more of a non-surgical rejuvenation technique aimed at rejuvenating the skin rather than lifting it. Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) is an innovative approach to anti-ageing as it uses your own body’s own healing process to rejuvenate and restore the skin. The process involves blood being taken from the patient which is then placed in a centrifuge and spun to separate the platelets and plasma from red blood cells and other components. The remaining platelets and plasma is then injected into the skin which stimulates a multitude of growth factors encouraging the production of collagen and preadipocyte cells to plump and add volume to the face.
You will be required to commit to a course of treatment carried out at monthly intervals and the best results are seen a month after your last treatment and you should notice an improvement in the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and a general improvement in the skin’s texture and tone.
Injectable treatments are fast becoming a popular alternative for specific facial surgery procedures such as a facelift and blepharoplasty. Dermal fillers are really effective at restoring lost volume in the face which can result in a sunken and hollow appearance especially around the cheeks, eyes and lips. Anti-wrinkle injections help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles resulting in an overall rejuvenated appearance. The 8 point lift is a technique that uses dermal fillers to combat the soft tissue loss associated with the ageing process and results last for up to 18 months with no downtime.
