Looking after your Skin in Winter

Cold weather can be harsh on our skin; there’s very little humidity in the air which means your skin is less nourished, and skin cells are slower to renew themselves which can make our faces look dull and tired. We give our top tips for looking after your skin in the winter months.

winter skincare treatments - tips for caring for dry skin

Proper cleansing and moisturisation

The first thing you should always consider is how well you look after your skin on a day-to-day basis. What is your skincare regime, and does it adapt to the requirements of colder weather? We thoroughly recommend using a good, gentle cleanser to unclog pores and a moisturiser both morning and night to make up for the lack of moisture in the air. Natural ingredients like those used in BareMinerals are perfect for restoring the skin without harsh chemicals and strong perfumes, but it’s all about finding the best way forward for you. Remember your skin isn’t the same as anybody else’s so what works for them may not work for you. We recommend popping into your nearest clinic to chat to our team – we’ll be able to advise you on what your skin requires and can help you get the skin you want through personalised advice.

Facials

Targeted facials can be a great way to re-balance the skin and give back a healthy glow – particularly if you’re already the proud owner of a good daily routine, but need an extra boost. We’re huge fans of medically formulated treatments like QMS and Jan Marini facials (available at selected The Private Clinics across the country) which can be used for a range of conditions and skin complaints. Likewise, for those on the run, Antonia Burrell express facials are an amazing way to restore your radiance in as little as 15 minutes – with a choice of options, depending on your type of skin, they’re also adaptable to your needs meaning there’s no excuse for complaining about your skin.

IPL Photorejuvenation

Dull skin can be a massive problem during the winter months and, without a tan to cover them up, unwanted signs of sun damage can rear their ugly head. Likewise, as dehydrated skill cells renew themselves less quickly during the cold weather, a buildup of dead skin can hinder how much light your skin reflects, making it appear dull and lines seem more pronounced. IPL Photorejuvenation is a targeted treatment to address these problems. It uses intense pulses of light to penetrate the skin and improve its tone and texture. Find out more.

N-Lite Acne Treatment

When your skin is lacking in moisture, it creates oil to hydrate the skin. This oily substance, sebum, is required to keep our skin healthy, but when the skin produces too much it can cause acne. Characteristic acne cysts and spots are created when the excess oil combines with bacteria that live on the skin and get trapped in pores. A lot of acne sufferers can therefore find their skin breaks out in the colder months, which makes it a good time to get our specialist N-Lite treatment.

The non-invasive laser treatments targets the bacteria that causes the spots, meaning that it not only clears skin at the time but can also prevent spots coming back in the future. Described as the most significant advancement in the treatment of acne in decades, the treatment takes around 30 minutes per session, and most patients are advised to undertake a course of around three treatments to achieve the best results. Laser Hair Removal

While most of us use the winter months as an excuse to hide behind tights and scarves, colder weather can actually be a fantastic time to consider permanent hair removal options. Laser Hair Removal uses pulses of light energy to stop hair growing back in chosen areas by heating (and eventually destroying) the follicles. Before and after treatment we advise patients to avoid the sun or getting a tan – this is because UV rays can cause pigmentation issues after laser hair removal. Winter, therefore, avoids this problem and makes any chance of scarring or marks on the skin much less likely. Find out more.
