Can this treatment help you lose ‘Man Boobs’?

Every January, millions of us make a vow to get in shape and commit ourselves to the nearest and sweatiest-looking gym in order to get a perfect beach body for summer (that funny old time right about now).

While the vast majority of us give up on our healthy intentions a little early (around the second week in January), of the few that persevere there are some who end up disappointed with their results.  The overall tone of the body might have improved, but some areas just don’t respond to exercise despite even the greatest of Speedo-inspired intentions.

A particularly common problem area for men is the chest, with some statistics showing that up to 40% of the male population suffer from a condition called Gynecomastia (more commonly and ever-so eloquently referred to as ‘man boobs’ or ‘moobs’). General misconception tends to associate it solely with obesity and a sedentary lifestyle (both of which do contribute), however genetics and hormones are also prevalent causes, making it not only difficult to avoid but also notoriously hard to get rid of.

For those who are suffering despite living healthily, there are options to lose the chest fat for good and, at The Private Clinic, we are proud to offer two of the least invasive yet most effective of these methods; VASER Lipo and Micro Lipo.

But what exactly are they? And how can they solve the issue of excess fat in the chest?

Both procedures are, in the simplest sense, advanced and updated takes on liposuction. They remove unwanted areas of fat but, unlike traditional techniques, are minimally invasive; no complex surgery, no need for general anaesthetic, and no overnight stays in hospital. The treatments are designed for removing smaller pockets of fat rather than excessively large areas and the results are defined yet natural, making them ideal for stubborn areas like the chest. While the two procedures have a similar aim, however, where they differ is how they achieve it.

In VASER Lipo, fat is liquefied by advanced ultrasound prior to removal by a suction process, meaning significantly less damage to surrounding tissues and less chance of bruising. As the ultrasound energy targets only fat cells, it is highly precise and pain is kept to a minimum, while the results speak for themselves (below). It is little wonder then that the procedure has become one of the UK’s most popular fat removal techniques and is widely used in male chest reduction.

Micro Lipo, meanwhile, is perhaps lesser known in the UK than VASER, but is equally as effective; its lack of common practise is down to only a few doctors being able to perform it. The Private Clinic’s Dr Puneet Gupta was trained in the procedure under its inventor, Dr Jeffrey Klein, and is one of the very few leading European figures in the art of Micro lipo. The treatment differs from VASER in that it doesn’t break down the fat prior to removal, but instead uses tiny cannulas ranging from 0.9mm – 3mm in size to remove it. As a result downtime is cut even more, while results are still precise and impressive.

The best option for you will need to be discussed in consultation, but both Micro Lipo and VASER Lipo are highly successful ways to address gynecomastia. It must be remembered that neither is a ‘quick fix’ solution to losing weight, and we always suggest you try diet and exercise before considering any treatment.

Whatever you want to call it, excess fat on the chest is frustrating and difficult to get rid of, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. Both VASER Lipo and Micro Lipo are effective ways to banish the frustrating condition without infringing on your everyday life. Ensure you work with a doctor who listens to you and gives you realistic expectations, and you’ll be proudly flaunting your summer body like the best of them without the curse of ‘man boobs’.
