Radiofrequency

OVERVIEW

Radiofrequency

Among the most effective anti-ageing treatment are those that stimulate the body’s natural healing response by delivering heat or light to the skin’s deeper layers.

The main goal of Radiofrequency skin rejuvenation is to stimulate collagen production deep within the skin (the dermis and cutaneous layers) while leaving the skin’s surface (the epidemis) relatively untouched.

In addition to stimulating new collagen, radiofrequency treatment also causes some contraction of the skin, thus tightening it. Although you’ll notice the treatment’s tightening effects immediately, the more significant improvements will occur gradually over a period of several weeks or months as the new collagen forms.

There are a number of radiofrequency devices on the market today. Two of the most common are Thermage and Aluma.

Aluma

It is a radiofrequency skin rejuvenation procedure designed to improve skin laxity and texture.

Aluma differs from Thermage in that it uses suction to gently pull up folds of skin into a chamber where the radiofrequency energy is applied. The heat, therefore, passes through only the skin in the folds. This technique enables the physician to restrict the heat to the layer of skin being treated. As a result, some patients report that Aluma is less painful than Thermage.

However for Aluma to be truly effective, more than one treatment session is usually required. Your physician will recommend the treatment series that will be right for you, but, typically, such a series involves 4 to 6 weekly sessions.

No other treatment heats as deeply as Thermage. By heating the innermost layers of skin, Thermage is the most effective at tightening collagen and stimulating the formation of new collagen. Also, Thermage achieves results in a single treatment compared to other technologies like Aluma requiring multiple treatment sessions.

Click here for more information on Thermage and our new CTP Thermage system which incorporates proprietary Comfort Pulse Technology™ and scientifically advanced treatment tips. There is a special device in the new system that reduces discomfort and allows higher radiofrequency energies for greater results.
