Fractional Laser Skin Treatments

OVERVIEW

Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing

Fractional laser skin resurfacing is one of the latest and most popular technologies for rejuvenating and improving the look of aged skin. Like other skin lasers, these devices deliver heat through the top layer of the skin (the epidermis) and into its dermis (underlying layer).

But unlike other types of lasers, the heat is delivered in a “fractional” way. This means the device splits (fractionates) the laser light into thousands of microscopic “columns” of heat. The targeted skin cells within these columns are destroyed, but the surrounding tissues areleft intact. So, although our doctor pass the laser over the whole area, they actually treating only 20 to 30 percent of the skin. As a result, the skin heal much more quickly.

Pearl Fractional is the latest generation of skin resurfacing technology. It is the most effective laser skin treatment for lines, wrinkles, sun damaged skin, and uneven skin tone without the lengthy downtime associated with traditional C02 laser procedures.

What does Laser Resurfacing involve?

Pearl – The practitioner guides the laser over the whole face, removing the top layer of the epidermis and heating a layer of tissue below it. It is used to improve the appearance of superficial lines and sunspots.

Pearl Fractional – This laser penetrates deeper into the skin and is used to target specific areas of the face and deeper wrinkles.

Pearl Fusion – This is a combination of the two procedures. Pearl is used first to improve the whole texture of the face and then Pearl Fractional is used to target deeper wrinkles.

What to Expect During and After Treatment?

A topical anesthetic or numbing agent will be applied to your skin before the treatment begins. During the treatment itself, which can take 20 to 40 minutes, you’ll feel an increased sensation of heat. Air will be gently blown on your skin during the entire procedure to keep its surface cool. On a pain scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst, most patients tend to rate the pain at about a 4.

For about 48-72 hours after treatment, you’ll feel — and look — like you have a sunburn. Your skin will appear pink or red. Over the next week or two, your skin will flake and bronze temporarily.

Your physician will give you instructions for how to care for your skin following treatment.

You can expect to return to your social life within 7 days, depending on how aggressive the treatment was.

Only one session is required.
