Specialised in darker skin types.
Olive skin and darker skin are often more difficult to treat than lighter skin types. This is due to the higher content of melanin in the skin, which means the light - whether coming from the sun or an artificial light or laser technology - is absorbed more quickly by the body, resulting in higher risks of burns and of hyper pigmentation. This is why laser have to be set at a lower intensity and specific settings are essential when treating olive, Asian and darker skin types.
Old laser technologies are not sophisticated enough to allow to adapt the settings to the different skin types. Newest technologies on the other hand allow us to treat all skin types safely and effectively.
Most importantly, over 60% of people we treat, with lasers, at The Private Clinic are Asian or Afro-Caribbean skin types and our doctors and laser practitioners are the most experienced in the Country in treating darker skin types.
Some of our most popular treatments for darker skins include:
Pixel laser for skin resurfacing
Dark skins are more prone to scarring – especially if the patient has suffered from severe acne – and hyper-pigmentation, which means uneven skin colour mostly on the face.
The PIXEL Laser is the latest laser technology to reduce the appearance of scars and deep pigmentation. As well as producing stunning results, this non-invasive procedure is suitable for all skin types, including dark skin.
The PIXEL Laser is a high-energy beam of light that can be directed into certain areas of the skin. Unlike other laser treatments where the whole of the selected target area is damaged, the PIXEL Laser only treats small areas, leaving surrounding tissue untouched and intact. These large unaffected areas act as a reservoir for more effective and rapid tissue healing and collagen production. This stimulates the growth of new, healthy skin tissue.
Clinical studies have proved that PIXEL Laser treatments can significantly improve skin texture, reduce roughness and pore size, reduce acne scarring and reduce excessive skin pigmentation.
The result is new, smoother tissue in place of skin imperfections.
Usually a course of three to five treatments is needed. There is slight discomfort and most people find that they can return to work immediately after treatment.
