Specialised in darker skin types.

Olive skin and darker skin are often more difficult to treat than lighter skin types. This is due to the higher content of melanin in the skin, which means the light - whether coming from the sun or an artificial light or laser technology - is absorbed more quickly by the body, resulting in higher risks of burns and of hyper pigmentation. This is why laser have to be set at a lower intensity and specific settings are essential when treating olive, Asian and darker skin types.

Old laser technologies are not sophisticated enough to allow to adapt the settings to the different skin types. Newest technologies on the other hand allow us to treat all skin types safely and effectively.
Most importantly, over 60% of people we treat, with lasers, at The Private Clinic are Asian or Afro-Caribbean skin types and our doctors and laser practitioners are the most experienced in the Country in treating darker skin types.

Some of our most popular treatments for darker skins include:

Keloids

Keloid scarring is a highly visible condition which particularly affects those with darker skin. Although not dangerous, it can be distressing and seriously undermine a sufferer’s confidence. However you don’t need to put up with it as Keloid scars in most cases can be easily treated.

Our doctors here at The Private Clinic specialise in reducing the appearance of Keloid scars and we have successfully treated hundreds of people at our dermatology clinics in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Our procedure, as seen on Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies, is quick and simply involves a series of steroid injections which usually remove all trace within four to six sessions, with the scar becoming flat and in most cases the same colour as the surrounding skin.

Keloids look like exaggerated scars. A Keloid can occur after surgery, after major skin trauma and also after very minor skin damage such as acne spots. It is also possible to develop a Keloid even if there has been no obvious damage to the skin at all.

A tendency to get Keloids runs in some families and dark skinned people get Keloids more easily than those with a paler skin.

After consultation with a doctor the treatment option to suit you will be discussed. We use injections of a steroid (triamcinolone) which is to date the most effective treatment for Keloid scars. After four to six sessions, Keloids usually become flat and the same colour as the surrounding skin. The treatment takes just 15-30 minutes.

Surgery to debulk large keloids is another treatment option and this is usually followed up with postoperative steroid injections.

All our other treatments are equally suited for light and darker skin and they include: vaser lipo for fat removal, macrolane and cell enriched fat transfer for breast enhancement, anti-aging injections and fillers, varicose veins treatments, skin tightening as well as cellulite treatments.
