What is Macrolane™ and how does It work?
Made by leading pharmaceutical company Q-Med, Macrolane™ gel consists of Hyaluronic Acid – a manmade version of a natural substance that your body normally produces. It attracts water once injected into the skin to add volume to the immediate area.
The 30 minute treatment involves an injection that augments the breasts to give volume and lift. A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area being treated. The Macrolane gel is injected using a needle from both the top, bottom of the breasts as well as the nipple ensuing the best cosmetic results.
With Macrolane the breast shape can be specifically tailored to your body creating a more natural look than you would get with implants.
What are the advantages over surgery and silicone implants?
- Macrolane™ is performed under local anesthetic rather than general anesthetic
- It is a 30 minute walk in-walk out procedure
- Results are natural looking
- No need to take time off work or off-work activities
- Minimal risk of scarring
- Research to date has shown that macrolane does not interfere with the results of Mammograms
What is Macrolane most suitable for?
- To increase breast size or correct breast and nipple symmetry
- Following pregnancy and breast feeding, to restore the original breast shape and fullness
- For women who lost volume in their breast due to weight loss, ageing or other reasons
Does the treatment hurt?
The doctor will numb the area with a local anaesthetic before the procedure.
Is it safe?
Macrolane consists of Hyaluronic acid which already exists within your body and thus is not recognized as a foreign substance. Hyaluronic Acid has been used for many years in aesthetic treatments and there have not been any reports of life-threatening reaction to NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid) following 10 million treatments.
Extensive trials since 2002 have shown no long term serious issues and Macrolane has been granted full European approval for use on the body (CE marked).
Infection and allergy are rare. Cases of encapsulation have been reported in less than 3% of the patients for which treatment is relatively straight forward.
The Private Clinic has performed more procedures than any other UK clinic which means our doctors have unmatched experience in the use of Macrolane.
During your consultation don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have, especially those regarding your expectations and concerns about the results and possible side effects.
When can I see the results?
Results are immediate. Macrolane feels firm for a few days as the breast tissue absorbs water, but after a week or two it begins to soften.
How long does the effect last?
The duration of Macrolane is about 12 - 14 months, but variability does exist. Generally we see clients coming for top-ups after 9-12 months when they start noticing some change in shape and volume. There is however no hard and fast rule as to when you need a top-up, if at all. It is completely up to you.
Is there any downtime?
It is a walk in-walk out procedure so you don’t need to take time away from work. You are advised to avoid any vigorous sporting activaties for one week. A good support bra should be worn for one week.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary depending on the amount required and will be properly assessed during your consultation.
