What is Macrolane™?
Macrolane™ gel consists of Hyaluronic Acid – a manmade version of a substance that your body normally produces. It attracts water once injected into the skin to give an all round ‘plumper’ look that adds volume to the immediate area. Made by leading pharmaceutical company Q-Med, it has been used for many years in aesthetic treatments.
How does the treatment work?
The 30-minute treatment involves a simple injection that augments the calves to give volume. A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area being treated.
What are the advantages over invasive surgery such as silicone implants?
- Macrolane™ is performed under local anesthetic rather than general anaesthetic.
- Is a quick walk in-walk out procedure.
- Results are natural looking.
- No need to take time off work or off-work activities.
- Minimal risk of scarring.
Does the treatment hurt?
No as the doctor will numb the area with a local anaesthetic before the procedure.
Is it safe?
Macrolane consists of Hyaluronic acid which already exists within your body and thus is not recognized as a foreign substance. Hyaluronic Acid has been used for many years in aesthetic treatments and there have not been any reports of life-threatening reaction to NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid) following 10 million treatments.
Extensive trials since 2002 have shown no long term serious issues and Macrolane has been granted full European approval for use on the body (CE marked).
Infection and allergy are rare. Cases of encapsulation have been reported in less than 3% of the patients for which treatment is relatively straight forward.
The Private Clinic has performed more procedures than any other UK clinic which means our doctors have unmatched experience in the use of Macrolane.
During your consultation don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have, especially those regarding your expectations and concerns about the results and possible side effects.
When can I see the results?
Results are immediate. Macrolane™ feels firm for a few days as it absorbs water. After a week or two, it begins to soften and after a few weeks becomes quite soft and just like normal tissues.
How long does the effect last?
Macrolane™ is topped up every year with roughly half the volume that is injected initially but variability does exist. . You would then have a longer period before each subsequent treatment.
Is there any downtime?
The calves can feel quite stiff for one to two weeks but you won’t need time off from work.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary depending on the amount of treatment required and will be properly assessed during your consultation.
