What is Macrolane™?
Macrolane™ gel consists of Hyaluronic Acid – a long-lasting and manmade version of a natural substance that your body normally produces. It attracts water once injected into the skin to give an all round ‘plumper’ look that adds volume to the immediate area. Made by leading pharmaceutical company Q-Med, it has been used for many years in aesthetic treatments.
How does the treatment work?
The 45-minute treatment involves a simple injection that augments the calves to give volume. A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area being treated.
What are the advantages over invasive surgery such as silicone implants?
- Macrolane™ is performed under local anaesthetic rather than general anaesthetic.
- Is a quick walk in-walk out procedure.
- Results are natural looking.
- No need to take time off work or off-work activities.
- Minimal risk of scarring.
Does the treatment hurt?
No as the doctor will numb the area with a local anaesthetic before the procedure.
Is it safe?
There have not been any reports of life-threatening reaction to NASHA reported following 10 million treatments.
Clinical studies show that transient local reactions such as swelling, redness, tenderness occur following treatment with Macrolane. These are well-known side-effect and is short lasting.
When can I see the results?
Results are immediate. Macrolane™ feels firm for a few days as it absorbs water. After a week or two, it begins to soften and after a few weeks becomes just like normal tissues.
How long does the effect last?
Macrolane™ is topped up every year with roughly half the volume that is injected initially, but variability does exists. You would then have a longer period before each subsequent treatment.
Is there any downtime?
The calves can feel quite stiff for one to two weeks but you won’t need time off from work.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary depending on the amount of treatment required and will be properly assessed during your consultation.
