Sagging Jowls

Our MicroLipo procedure has scored 9 out of 10 on TATLER 2011 Guide to Beauty and Cosmetic Surgery.

The Problem

Some people think that the biggest telltale sign of a person’s true age is not face wrinkles or crow’s feet around their eyes, but it is actually sagging jowls.

The jawline is what separates our face from our neck and with age we lose definition in our jaws and much of the distinction between the two areas. The good news is that sagging jowls is a cosmetic issue you may be able to correct and regain a beautifully defined jaw.

The Treatment

Traditionally a surgical face lift procedure was considered the only treatment for sagging jaws. However not every patient is willing to undergo what is classed as a major surgical procedure, performed under general anaesthetic and requiring a considerable downtime. It is now possible to redefine your jaws and checks without the need to undergoing a major surgical procedure thanks to MicroLipo, a walk-in walk-out minimally invasive procedure. Find out more about MicroLipo here.

The Results

Tighter skin, improved jaw definition and reduced sagginess.

Downtime

Downtime is minimal and you can get back to your daily routine almost immediately. You will experience some bruising and swelling.

Our Medical Team

  • What causes Sagging Jowls?

There are many different reasons – from genetics to muscles – that cause the jawline to sag. The shape of your jawline bone has a lot to do with it to. On some people the jawbone protrudes out more than it does on others. This helps to support the tissue. Other factors include:

Aging is inevitably a contributing factor.

Finally having some extra weight can be a big contributor to sagging jowls. When we have more fat, it causes the skin to stretch and sagg. If you drop those pounds, you’re left with the excess tissue. If you keep those pounds on, you are still left with extra fat which weighs down the area and can cause it to sag.

Nowadays with Microcannula liposuction you can have similar results to a cosmetic face lift procedure. You have none of the major risks and downtime that are normally associated with surgical face lifts and you can achieve a very natural looking result with friends and colleagues none the wiser.

  • How does Micro Lipo work?

A large amount of very dilute local anesthesia is injected into the fat causing the targeted areas to become swollen and firm. The fat is then removed using microcannulas with a diameter of just 1 millimeter.

The Microcannulas technique is the brainchild of Dr. Jeffrey Klein who wanted to achieve excellent cosmetic results but with rapid post-operative return to normal activities. Since the invention, Dr. Klein has taught the technique to hundreds of doctors in California.

Dr Gupta of The Private Clinic is the only European doctor who is certified in the KleinLipo technique and has been recommanded on TATLER 2011 Guide of Beauty and Cosmetic treatments.

  • Who performs the MicroLipo procedure?

Dr Puneet Gupta is highly qualified in a number of cosmetic treatments and is a member of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine and the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors. Dr Gupta has had advanced training in Microcannular Liposuction using tumescent anaesthesia in the USA by the inventor of the tumescent technique. Dr Gupta practices the microcannula techniques at The Private Clinic in London, Manchester and Birmingham.

  • Am I suitable?

In a number of instances MicroLipo can provide an alternative for a traditional surgical face lift. It has benefits that can’t be found with surgery, such as restoring natural facial contours and volume. Also, results are typically more subtle than with surgery. However, it is not for everyone. You should discuss your objectives with the doctor before undergoing any procedure.

  • Will I feel any pain during the procedure?

Our procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic, so you will feel no pain during treatment.

  • How long does the procedure take?

    Around 1 hour.

  • How soon will I see the results?

Often results are visible immediately but will improve further over the following weeks. Once you have fat removed, it is gone and, assuming a healthy lifestyle of proper diet and exercise, it will not return.
