What is Perlane?
Collagen injections are still a popular treatment choice but they have largely been superseded by Perlane, a newer injectable treatment which lasts up to twice as long as collagen.
Perlane is a dermal filler which is injected into the facial skin to correct wrinkles and depressions. Perlane is composed of hyaluronic acid in the form of a crystal clear gel. It is not animal-based and is free from animal proteins.
Perlane can be used for shaping facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, and correcting deep folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).
The subtle effects can be seen immediately and last around six to nine months.
How does the treatment work?
Perlane is injected directly into the skin by an ultrafine needle. Your medical team will be able to decide what is the optimal amount to inject to achieve the results you want.
Which areas can be treated?
Perlane is used to shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, and correct deep folds such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).
Does the treatment hurt?
Perlane is injected with an ultrafine needle and the pain is similar to that of any needle injection. A topical anaesthetic will be applied to the area being treated prior to the procedure.
Is it safe?
Unlike collagen, Perlane is a non-animal product. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions.
How long does the treatment take?
This simple procedure takes around 30 minutes.
The inconvenience of a skin test can be avoided with Perlane because, unlike collagen, it is a non-animal product. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions.
How soon will I see the results?
The results are virtually instantaneous.
How long will the effects last?
As with any dermal filler, longevity of Perlane will vary from patient to patient. However, the effects tend to last for 6 to 9 months.
Many patients choose to have a top-up injection of Perlane once a year to maintain the effects. When top-up treatments cease, Perlane biodegrades naturally and safely in the skin – the gel simply disappears.
Are there any side effects?
Perlane is a natural product, making it extremely safe – hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body so the skin does not react to it. With over 100,000 people treated so far, only a very small number of reactions have been reported.
These reactions have included prolonged but temporary redness, swelling, itching or tenderness which typically does not last longer than a week.
Mineral make-up can be re-applied after the procedure.
Is there any downtime?
No, you can resume normal activities immediately.
What is the difference between Perlane and Restylane?
The difference between Perlane and Restylane is the size of the particle. Perlane is composed of larger gel particles than Restylane and is intended for deeper injection to add volume for structural support and lift.
Because we offer both products we can provide the full range of treatment options – your medical team will be able to advise which is right for you.
How much does it cost?
Perlane is extremely popular because it is reasonably priced and the effects last six months or more. Treatments start from £180 but, as treatments are customised, costs will vary from patient to patient.
Your consultant will be able to give you a cost estimate after your free consultation, but in every case our aim is to deliver Harley Street service at High Street prices.
Who performs the treatment?
The treatment will be carried out by doctors and nurse practitioners who each have extensive experience in this field.
