Pioneering non-invasive cosmetic and
medical treatments since 1983

Melinda Smith, 32, tried Red Light Skin Rejuvenation Treatment, combined with the MD Formulations Alpha/Beta skin peel.

Melinda says: “I’ve always tanned quite easily and spent a lot of time in the sun. But, although I’m careful not to burn and always wear a hat, over the last couple of years I’ve noticed how patchy and pigmented the skin seemed on my chin and above my lip.

It became a mini-obsession, as it was the first thing I noticed whenever I looked in the mirror and I had to use lots of foundation for cover. But it means I can never have that bare-faced look. I love swimming, too, but whenever I get out of the water, I hate how visible the pigment is. I moan constantly to my boyfriend, Andrew Grant, 23, who works in advertising. Although he tries to reassure me that no one will notice.

I read about this salon treatment and it sounded quite drastic, but I wanted to try it to get the best results possible. It’s an intensive three days a week, five-week course combining two red light sessions and one weekly skin peel. The skin peel involved having my face exfoliated with salicylic acid and then having a deep cream treatment made from glycolic acid applied. Both treatments are supposed to stimulate collagen.

The term ‘acid’ is always a bit frightening, and my skin did tingle while it was being done, but it wasn’t unpleasant. The red light is not a laser but a beam of light with all harmful UV rays filtered out. It’s supposed to stimulate the body’s natural processes to heal pigmentation.

During the twice-weekly sessions, it was pulsed across my face for 20 minutes and felt really nice - like a warm glow of sunshine on my skin. But I did panic about if after the first session, as my skin looked red for a couple of hours before finally settling down.
It was a pain to constantly go back and forth to the clinic, but, by the third week, I really did see results. My skin seemed plumper and, instead of being patchy, it was all one colour.

People started to tell me how well I looked and, by week five, I braved the outside world without foundation.
