Laser op that zapped my snoring

A short treatment under local anaesthetic has ended years of snoring for Simon – bringing sound sleep at last for wife Nicole

With a baby son crying in one and her husband snoring loudly in another, Nicole wasn’t getting the kind of sleep that a busy young mum needs.

‘My husband Simon was waking me up even more than our little boy was and between the two I was hardly getting any sleep at all!’ says Nicole, 28, from London.

Snoring runs in Simon’s family and Nicole had tried her best to live with it.

‘But once I became pregnant, my hearing got super sensitive. I’d keep waking up and would prod or shake Simon or would even go off into another room to get some sleep,’ she explains.‘I didn’t want to have to sleep separately though – as this was taking out the romance out of a relationship that was good in all other ways.’

As Simon saw how exhausted Nicole was getting, the 28-year-old marketing consultant decided it was finally time for action.

‘I could not bear the thought of my poor wife having to put up with my snoring for years and years and years to come.

‘I’d tried everything from nasal strips to sprays, but nothing had worked. I needed a solution that would last.’

Simon had read about a laser operation to reduce the size of the uvula which hangs at the back of the throat – and is the main culprit of those irksome nocturnal rumblings.

He quietly made an appointment at The Private Clinic for a free, no-obligation assessment and after feeling completely reassured by his visit, told a highly relieved Nicole that he was going ahead with the treatment.

The technique used on Simon is quick and can usually cure snoring in a 30-minute session, with a high success rate.

Known as Laser Assisted Uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP), it is performed in the clinic under a local anaesthetic.

The patient sits comfortably in a chair as if at the dentist, while the surgeon remodels the uvula and removes the vibrating soft tissue around it, using a laser beam in a procedure taking five to ten minutes.

Over 20,000 LAUP procedures have been carried out in the UK to date, by a team of highly
experienced consultant ENT surgeons.

Dr Yves-Victor Kamami, the French professor who developed LAUP, says: ‘With the patient sitting in a chair and the control given by the laser, it is much more precise than traditional surgery. And there is no bleeding as the laser seals as it works.’

The resulting freeing of the airways could make a real difference to a person’s quality of life, he adds. Studies have shown that the increased oxygen supply can lead to more refreshing sleep, lifted mood, more energy, better memory and even more improved libido.

Millions of people in the UK snore – one in three men and one in ten women. But thanks to the life-changing ‘lunch hour’ cure offered by LAUP there is no need for them to suffer its damaging effects on their lives, relationship and health.

Simon says: ‘It’s just fantastic that Nicole can now sleep soundly alongside me. We both now wake refreshed and I have also noticed an improved sense of smell and taste and my breathing is easier too. We are so relieved to have sorted out this problem.’

There are several options for treatment to cure snoring. A free, confidential, no-obligation consultation at The Private Clinic in either London or Manchester will give you all the information you need to choose the one that’s most suitable for you.
