VASER Lipo Body Contouring: The Recovery Period

Friday, April 26th, 2013

To help you better understand VASER Lipo, we’ve put together our answers to a selection of the most commonly asked questions related to VASER body contouring.

VASER Liposuction

Before & After VASER Liposuction

Q: What is VASER Lipo?

A: VASER, or Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance in full, is advanced technology used in certain body contouring procedures, which involve ultrasound fat emulsification and gentle aspiration to achieve a toned, defined appearance. The VASER Lipo procedure utilises minimally-invasive techniques (such as gentle aspiration) to tackle stubborn pockets of fat around various areas of the body with more precision, less trauma to the body and superior results, in comparison to a full Liposuction procedure.

During a procedure carried out with VASER, the area to be treated is injected with tumescent fluid (a specialised saline solution), helping to numb the area, reducing subsequent bruising and enlarging the area to aid subsequent fat emulsification and aspiration. A small-diameter probe is then inserted and targeted at fatty tissue, the tip of which emits ultrasound energy that essentially shakes loose fat cells, while preserving blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues. The fat cells mix with the tumescent fluid for easier aspiration via a specialised, small tube, called a cannula. More information is available on our website.

As VASER Lipo has developed, its application is being used not only for lipolysis and aspiration, but as part of fat transfer procedures, where your own body fat is transferred from a place of excess fat to a part of the body where it’s needed, like the breasts, hands, face and buttocks – as a natural alternative to synthetic implants. Find out more about Fat Transfer here.

Q: Does it hurt?

A: VASER Lipo Body Contouring procedures are minimally-invasive, and performed under local anaesthetic. Compared to traditional liposuction, the pain is greatly reduced. Discomfort is kept to a minimum and is a large factor in the popularity of the procedure. Most discomfort is reported around the treatment areas for the initial 1-3 days, after which you may feel a dull background ache around the treatment sites for anywhere between 1-4 weeks – remember everyone’s body heals differently.

To help with any discomfort, you are prescribed a course of painkillers as part of the recovery process. In line with what you will be told before the procedure, after the procedure you will be fitted with compression garments and an aftercare schedule necessary to aid the swift recovery.

Q: Do I go home straight after the procedure?

A: You will be allowed to leave the clinic as soon as you feel you’re ready. We allow our patients to take their time, but an overnight stay is not necessary with VASER Lipo.

We recommend that you take 2-3 days off work to adjust to any discomfort you may feel.

Q: Will I have any swelling, bruising or numbness? If so, for how long?

A: Each person’s body may respond differently, but from our experience it is not uncommon to experience some slight swelling and probably bruising within the first few days post treatment.

Swelling and bruising can be frustrating for many patients, keen to feel the effects of the procedure in full, and we understand that. We advise people to understand and share their stories with other people but bear in mind it is very much an individual response.

From our extensive experience, we have seen a very wide range of recovery periods, and our consultations are a great opportunity to ask our leading doctors and surgeons about their experience carrying out body contouring procedures with VASER.

Fat Transfer: The Latest Weapon in the fight against Ageing

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

A recent news story, featured in The Sunday Times last week, looked at a facial volume enhancing technique, currently being trialled in Belgium that uses stem cells in fat (adipose) tissue to selectively restore lost volume to the face, as a result of ageing. So far, it remains a trial – exactly what the stem cells are doing is unknown – if anything at all – but it is certainly an interesting trial. So while trials are the lifeblood of medicine, here at The Private Clinic our experienced team carry out fat transfer procedures utilising the latest proven techniques and technology. As a result, we wanted to share with you how we do the procedures and offer advice.

As you age, you lose fatty tissue from parts of the body that are hard to hide – most noticeably the face – and gain fat on the areas you’d like to keep it off. The skin on the face is a battleground against the elements and as you age your skin also loses elasticity, dropping downwards, exacerbating the effects of lost fat volume – evident in sagging jowls and nasolabial folds. As many struggle to shift pockets of fat in other parts of your body, science and medical know-how have stepped up and you can now have unwanted fat taken from stubborn fat deposits, around the abdomen for example, and transfer it to the ‘not-so-plump’ areas.

Fat transfer procedures typically involve taking unwanted fat from the patient’s body via liposuction (we do it here with VASER Liposuction), filtering it and transferring it to the site required by injection. This requires specific knowledge and experience to transfer effectively, without damaging the fat cells and to limit bruising. The face requires even further consideration. Here at The Private Clinic, as our very own Dr. Dennis Wolf points out, “the cannulas I use are finer than traditional fat infiltration cannulas, causing less bruising and trauma to surrounding tissue.” Make sure you ask about this, as bruising to the face is largely avoidable with an experienced doctor or surgeon.

Before and After

It is important to note that with breast enlargement via fat transfer the VASER liposuction performed will have a noticeable result on the donor area, due to the volume needed, and forms an important part of the procedure. However as less fat is required for the face, for example, the removal of fat for the ‘Organic Lift’ results in less noticeable fat loss (contouring) around the donor area, unless in combination with full VASER liposuction. The primary objective of this procedure is the added volume to the ‘problem’ area, which has been receiving very positive responses from patients.

The Private Clinic

It has never been safer and more effective and with The Private Clinic’s experienced doctors and practitioners, we are at the forefront of the technology and techniques involved. We offer fat transfer procedures for the face (The Organic Lift), hands, buttocks and breasts. The Private Clinic’s Surgeon Undergoes Vaser Liposuction

Monday, February 11th, 2013

Last week one of our very own doctors underwent VASER liposuction -carried out by two of The Private Clinic’s VASER specialists, Dr. Wolf and Mr. Anthony.

After years of performing the procedure on his patients, Dr.Simon Connolly opted for the treatment to target the stubborn areas of fat that were difficult to shift with just diet and exercise alone.

When asking Dr.Connolly why he chose to have the treatment he said: “Like many men in my situation, I was fortunate to always be able to eat whatever I wanted – and that continued probably up until my mid thirties. However, one week I noticed that I was a couple of kilos heavier and decided that on the following Monday I would start a diet. By Friday I was still the same weight, and therefore continued my diet for another week. By the end of that week I was still the same weight. That’s when I realised that something fundamental had changed in the metabolism of my body, and I was more susceptible to storing fat that just wouldn’t shift with diet exercise alone.

He added: “Having a busy work schedule, I couldn’t really afford to spend hours in the gym everyday – I had even taken up cycling and had got very fit. However, the weight remained the same, and decided to have them treated with Vaser. Those areas were stomach, love handles and chest.”

When asking Dr.Connolly how he is currently feeling at present, he said: “I am pleasantly surprised at how comfortable I feel after the treatment. I did expect to feel a lot more fragile, and certainly having treated patients with Vaser myself, I’m probably very fortunate that I feel very little discomfort with it.”

Here at The Private Clinic, we have noticed a 20% increase in the number of men opting for VASER Liposuction above the age of 40, and our very own doctor having the procedure himself, gives testament to the fact that our team includes the best practitioners in the industry. We have the largest and and most experienced team in VASER Liposuction doctors in the UK, with procedures available at our clinics across the country. We perform close to 1,000 minimally invasive VASER Liposculpture treatments year on year, and our specialist teams of doctors have performed over 4,000 procedures to date – more than any other clinic in Europe.

VASER uses the most advanced ultrasound technology to break down fat cells. A small probe is used to transmit energy and liquefy fat cells prior to the removal of fat through the gentle suction process. The results of the treatment are very soft and natural, so while the patient themselves will recognise the effects of the treatment, it may not be immediatley obvious to those around them that they have undergone a cosmetic procedure.

Here is a shot of Dr. Connolly before the VASER Lipo procedure – stay tuned for the results!

Does My Bum Look Big in This?

Friday, February 1st, 2013

This week annual figures from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), reveal that the number of Fat Transfer procedures in the UK have overtaken the number of liposuction procedures.

Over the past few years there has been a steady increase in females looking to enhance their curves, having fat harvested from one area, typically a flabbier area such as the thighs, back and flanks, and re-inserted into another area such as the breasts, bottom or face.

The annual figures collected show that the number of women having Fat Transfer procedures has risen by 13% to 2,641. This increase in Fat Transfer procedures is being linked to curvaceous US stars such as Beyonce and Kim Kardashian. It seems that more and more women are visiting cosmetic surgeons and asking if they can have a derriere just like Jennifer Lopez!

JLO

It appears that after 2011’s PIP scandal, when it emerged that thousands of British women had been given shoddily made implants that leaked and contained industrial-grade silicone, women are now looking for more natural and safer methods to enhance the shape of their figures.

Fat Transfer, also known as Fat Grafting or Fat Injections is a natural, minimally invasive treatment for replacing age-related lost volume and subtly smoothing out wrinkles. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic and can be performed in combination with a number of VASER Liposuction treatments.

Here at The Private Clinic we offer Fat Grafts for the following areas:

  • Face
  • Hands
  • Breasts
  • Buttocks

Cosmetic experts Dr Alberto Di Giuseppe and Dr Dennis Wolf recently performed an ‘organic facelift’ on 57-year-old Rosetta Cisson, which saw fat transferred from Rosetta’s bottom and re-injected into her face.

Older male generation turn to cosmetic treatments to achieve a more defined physique – at a later stage in life

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

On Tuesday of this week we featured in the Daily Mail, in conjunction with industry reports that show a huge increase in the number of male patients in their fifties and sixties seeking cosmetic treatments in order to achieve a more defined, muscular physique at a later stage in life.

In recent years, we at The Private Clinic, have witnessed almost a 20% increase in the total number of men opting for VASER lipo procedures who are above the age of 50.

VASER expert at The Private Clinic, Dr. Mike Comins, has first-hand experience of this growing trend:

‘Some four-five years ago the average age of a patient who came to me expressing an interest in VASER was around 30 years old. At that time it was incredibly rare for men in their 50s and 60s to seek the treatment. However, now a considerable proportion of the males I treat are 50 or older, which demonstrates a dramatic change in attitude towards cosmetic treatment.’

The presence of older males in the public eye is being named as the reason for this growth in cosmetic procedures amongst the older generations. Hollywood stars in their 50s, such as Liam Neeson, Tom Cruise and Sean Penn, have all featured heavily in the press in the past couple of years, revealing toned, enviable torsos that many elder males are looking for ways to replicate. Only last week we blogged about the race to the top of the career ladder, and the competition that exists for older males to look younger in the workplace.

You can find out more on this topic and read all about Donovan Nelson, who at the age of 54, underwent a VASER Hi-Def procedure at The Private Clinic to enhance his body confidence and help him keep up with his 33 year-old wife, here.

The Private Clinic: Older males considering surgery

VASER Liposuction is a minimally invasive, specialist body sculpting procedure which removes fat from localised areas of the body. Unlike traditional Liposuction, VASER Lipo does not require the patient to go under general anaesthetic – it is a walk-in, walk-out procedure that will not leave any scarring.

Six Packs Are In! Strong Is The New Skinny!

Friday, December 14th, 2012

To the ladies chasing the latest celebrity body trends…have no fear…you can eat again!

The word on the grapevine is ‘strong is the new skinny’, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. For too long we have been waiting for the celebs to see sense and opt for a healthier lifestyle.

Gone are the days when it was the ‘in’ thing to aspire for teeny tiny tummies matchstick legs, now sensible women are shunning size zero frames in favour of tightly packed abs and well-toned arms.

The happy and healthy stars of the big screen, catwalk and tennis court have been pictured hitting beaches all over the world showing off their gym-honed curves and proving you don’t need to be beanpole thin to look fabulous. Celebs who are bucking the trend include, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Rowland, Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson, Elle Macpherson and Serena Williams.

The Private Clinic: Strong is the new slim

Athlete and celebrity trainer, Laura Marin, reveals “For over six years, I ate a fat-free diet. Zero fat. I believed that was the healthiest way to get lean but all that happened was that I felt moody and weak, my skin was dry and much to my disappointment, I was no leaner than before. Needless to say I was frustrated and unhappy, but it still took a while to change that habit. Once I was out of dance world and learned more about nutrition and fitness, I realised that eating fat is essential for good health. Without it we are in danger of missing out on vitamins A,E and D. These fat – soluble vitamins play an important role in our good health. They are vital for our skin, our mood, our brain function, heart health, hormone balance and joints; the key is choosing the right fat. Be selective, those from monounsaturated sources are what you want to include in your diet and these include olive oil, avocados and nuts. Avoid saturated fats which are found in many processed foods as well as meat and dairy products.”

However, here at The Private Clinic we understand that some people, no matter how much effort they put into there diet and exercise regime, may still have stubborn pockets of fat that just won’t shift – preventing them from having the sculpted look that they strive for.

VASER Liposuction (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) uses the most advanced ultrasound technology to breakdown stubborn fat cells, which are then removed from the area through a suction process.  The ultrasound energy only targets fat cells, leaving all surrounding tissues undamaged, and involves minimal downtime. Our experience tells us that VASER Lipo is the most effective minimally invasive method of removing unwanted fat from your body, created a defined and sculpted area.

The Private Clinic: VASER Lipo

To fit the trend, our specialist Doctors at The Private Clinic have perfected body sculpting with VASER Hi-Def, for those of you who are after the more defined, athletic appearance.

TOWIE Star Maria Fowler Undergoes Vaser Liposuction

Friday, December 7th, 2012

Earlier this month former TOWIE star, Maria Fowler, underwent VASER Liposuction.

The Essex reality star, who has made no secret of her desire to fight the flab with cosmetic surgery, took to Twitter to announce her decision to go under the knife back in September.

Maria is no stranger to the world of cosmetic surgery, having undergone a boob job in the past, and she previously admitted in The Sun newspaper that she wanted liposuction on her bottom because she hated the way it looked in a bikini.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, she said: “I see paparazzi pics of me in a bikini and I think I look too big – I hate it.”

Since her operation, Maria has been actively tweeting about the results of the treatment, which was carried out on her back, armpits, stomach, thighs and bottom.

Here are just some of the things she was saying about her treatment:

The Private Clinic: Maria Fowler

VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) uses the most advanced ultrasound technology to breakdown fat cells. A small probe is used to transmit energy and liquefy fat cells, prior to the removal of the fat through a gentle suction process. The results of the treatment are very soft and natural, so while the patient themselves will recognise the effects of the treatment, it may not be immediately obvious to those around them that that have undergone a cosmetic procedure. For those patients who prefer a more sculpted, athletic look, Vaser Hi-Def and Vaser Mid-Def may be more suitable.

The main advantages of VASER Liposuction, over surgical Liposuction are:

  • The  treatment involves a minimally invasive procedure
  • The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic,
  • VASER Lipo is a walk-in and walk-out procedure.
The Private Clinic: Maria Fowler

The Private Clinic: MyFaceMyBody Awards

For months, the buzz was all about the prestigious MyFaceMyBody Awards. They are the first in the aesthetic industry to allow end customers to recognise and reward brands and clinics for their service, innovation and popularity. The awards saw 12,500 consumers vote for their favourite brand and clinic.

Last weekend saw the televised MyFaceMyBody Awards ceremony, where finalists for each category were recognised, and winners congratulated. We are extremely proud to announce that The Private Clinic won the award for ‘Best Body Reshaping’ category featuring our VASER Body Balancing procedure. We were also Highly Commended for Find out more about the winning categories here.

The Private Clinic’s VASER Body Balancing procedure, an advanced VASER fat removal technique developed by Dr. Comins, was up against the likes of other body reshaping treatments, – such as BodyTite, LipoFirm Plus, Body-jet, CoolSculpting, Slendertone and Accent Ultra – and our VASER treatment was voted, by consumers and a judging panel, to be the most superior, effective, least invasive and safest body reshaping treatment available.

VASER Lipo is the very latest and most advanced fat removal technology. The procedure is minimally invasive, and carried out under local anaesthetic.

A small probe is used to transmit the sound energy and liquefy fat cells prior to removal through a gentle suction process. It is a less invasive procedure than traditional Liposuction. Having performed over 4,000 procedures to date, our doctors have perfected their skills and techniques to attain the highest standards of results.

Below are a few before and after photos of Sarah, our patient whose case was put forward for the award. Photos were taken before the procedure, 3 weeks on, and 10 weeks post treatment.

The Private Clinic: MyFaceMyBody Awards

In 2008, The Private Clinic, along with Dr. Mike Comins, launched the revolutionary VASER Hi-Def procedure in UK, and we have since been accredited as a European Advanced VASER Training Centre.

Dr. Comins adds – “I am really delighted to win this award and would like to thank my wonderful team of nurses and MLD therapists.”

Anna Nelson’s Vaser Diary: After the treatment

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

After my vaser lipo procedure (which you can read about here) I left the clinic with my husband and we headed home. I wasn’t in any pain, but everything felt slightly hazy as if I was walking around in slow motion! I was wearing my black one piece which felt nice and comfy.

I was at first a little hesitant to feel around my abdomen – not sure how it would feel or if it would hurt. Thankfully I did not have to have any drains, as my husband who previously underwent the procedure had had to have, as I remember it didn’t look very comfortable with two straws sticking out!

When we reached home, my husband served me a Caesar salad and I realised just how hungry I was. I’d forgotten all about food after the day I’d had! It tasted lovely but I only sprinkled a tiny bit of the actual dressing on the salad – it just felt SO wrong eating fatty dressings after the surgery!

I slowly touched my belly and it felt firm. I had quite a bit of padding material underneath my compression garment which make my stomach look rather large. It had leaked quite a lot of blood and whatever else comes out, so later in the evening I decided to change the dressing. I stood up with the help of my husband Donavon, slowly unhooking my garment, which by the way, was very VERY tight. Once off, the dressing fell on to the floor and I felt a sudden rush in my head– I’m fainting!

I panicked a little and grabbed Donavon’s hand, trying to sit down on one of our high bar stools in the kitchen. The room was spinning as I tried to regain control. What was happening? Suddenly I remember an incident from when I was little in school – a friend of mine nearly fainted and our teacher made her sit down with her head between her legs, to try to get some more blood in the head. So I tried to do the same – not that easy with a sore stomach AND feeling like I might vomit! I tried to slowly make my way to the toilet but thankfully managed not to so I retreated to the sofa, and wondered if my compression garment might have been a little too tight. With the help of Donavon I put some fresh dressing on. My stomach was flat and very defined – I didn’t have a six pack – but I did have some beautiful lines on each side of the stomach muscles, making it look nice and fit! Hallelujah! I didn’t have a lot of bruising at all, some just underneath my breasts on top of my lower rib cage, and some on the very sides of my stomach. Also a little further down towards my knicker-line which is great because it meant that it wasn’t visible. Fantastic! 3 small hidden marks and two small marks in my bellybutton…that no one will ever see either! I was purring to myself in happiness. And I am now nearly two litres lighter. I wonder how much that will affect my weight!

Donovan and I made our way to our bedroom to watch some TV in bed. I had taken my antibiotics and the painkillers which the clinic had given me. I still felt no pain, just a slight ache and discomfort due to the tight garment. And of course – it was impossible to use my stomach muscles in any way! I manage to fall asleep at last, resting on my back, which unfortunately is not my favourite position to sleep in…I would rather snuggle up tight, with legs curled close to my hubby! I slept ok the first night, not as heavy as I normally would, but that is probably to be expected!

I survived the first night! Bring on day number two!..

Anna Nelson’s Vaser Diary

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

I’m 32 and since giving birth to two children I’ve struggled to get my tummy flat and firm again. I’ve been exercising but I’ve found it difficult, if not impossible to get back my pre-baby figure.

In the back of my mind I’d thought about having some kind of treatment or even surgery to remove the fat that wouldn’t budge but I didn’t look into it until I saw the results my husband, Donovan, had from Vaser. He had Hi-Def Vaser and the results were amazing. Ok, so he had a good body to start with because he exercises five times a week but the definition he had after the Vaser treatment really inspired me. Donovan’s quite a few years older than me and I realised I needed to keep up! I realised that I wouldn’t look as toned as he did as I had a bit more fat to be removed. It’s got harder to shift the pounds as I’ve got older and the clock’s ticking. So I decided – let’s do this!

So, I decided to go for it and it made sense for me to go straight to Dr Comins at The Private Clinic because my husband’s treatment had been straightforward and he felt really confident in their care.
